I absolutely love this place. Yes, it is a little quirky, and yes the COVID stuff here seems a little over the top at this point. But, it is really part of the charm. The bartenders are quite well informed on the beers. They are not really there to be your best buddy, no to help with the huge selection of local beers. We had an orchestra party here, we had the whole south end of the restaurant blocked off to do nerdy trivia. It was pretty quiet and in fact we may have been a little too loud :) The concept is nice in that there are a large number of craft beers to select from the coolers lining the north end of the store, you just collect and pay. It would be fun to work your way through a large bunch of them over months and years. I was less pleased with the quality of the space which was more on the plain side, without much character other than feeling like an old Chicago flat. One of my favorite bars in the Chicago area. Great ambiance, great beer selection, great service, and - much to my happiness upon discovering - great food! Solid beer hall. When you enter they have a bunch of refrigerators with different beers, ciders, etc on display you can choose as well as a multitude of beers on tap. The bartenders are extremely friendly and offer you a taste of whatever you want. I had a stout which was amazing. They also offer flights if you are too indecisive. Back towards the rear they have a bunch of couches, tables, and cozy areas to sit and catch up. The noise level is moderate so I didn't feel like I needed to scream to get my friends to hear me. They also have a bunch of board games you can play. Food is via delivery and conveniently ordered via an app. If you feel particularly antisocial I believe you can order drinks through the app and have it brought to your table which is marked. Yes, it's here: a place you can sit and study while drinking beer! How awesome! Beermiscuous has a very classy, but chill vibe (which I'm hoping doesn't get too crazy when school gets into session) and is the coolest hangout spot I've ever gone to. Great for studying, reading, meeting up with friends, a casual date... and did I mention there's an amazing beer selection?! The bottles can be sold to go or you can hang out there and drink (without a corkage fee). There is no food sold here, but you can bring in any outside food you want and there are free pretzels to snack on if you fb/tweet that you're enjoying your beer at Beermiscuous (but these days who doesn't post their current location anyway). The owner Paul is really helpful if you need help looking for a beer or if you just need someone to talk beer with. I already told him I'm definitely going to be a regular here! My only wish is that I lived closer and didn't work every night so I could attend the cool seminars and tastings that they have throughout the week. If you can, go during the week in the middle of the afternoon. We basically had the place to ourselves, except for a few "workers" with their laptops. It was pretty quiet in here, so don't plan on breaking any hearts or divulging horrific details about your life here. It's like a library with beer, that allows talking, but you won't see any rowdy drunks taking over - at least not during the day. Beermiscuous had maybe 12-15 beers on tap when we visited, but there are also coolers lining both sides of the front of the bar. You can purchase canned & bottled beer to go, or to stay, but be forewarned that it will cost a little bit more if you choose to drink it there. We couldn't resist buying a can of the beloved blood orange beer (the brewery name escapes me now). I was fine with paying $5 for it, since I will never remember the name of it to attempt to buy it for myself. If you can't find SOMETHING in those coolers, you're insane. The real draw of Beermiscuous is the draft list. Each selection has a "track number," which made it a lot easier to order, considering some breweries and their brews are coming up with some wacky names. I wanted to order 2-3 sample sizes (4 oz), so the track number made is SO easy. I tried the Ale Syndicate Seven Flowers, solely based on the flowery name. It wasn't my favorite, but the Coffee Porter I tried was absolutely delicious. Complimentary water and pretzels are available, which was welcome! This is a great spot to meet up with friends and try new beers. They also offer their space for private parties and groups. read more

When my friend and I walked in to wait for out Gino's East, we were able to grab a beer (from the new Hopewell Brewery in Logan Square, solid) quickly and enjoy it at our table. However, the place soon became swarmed with aforementioned people described above... The place could use some more bartenders, as the poor guy was swamped with a line before we could even finish our first round. What I would like to come in and do here are some of the beer tastings, classes, and new release events. They seem to definitely be the neighborhood's best beer bar, but this isn't necessarily a hoppin' neighborhood in terms of beer... Its a very chill hang out place. you can bring your own food or order for delivery. The staff has always been friendly and courteous every time. They regularly change their beers and love that you can just hang out and relax. The cool part is they have a parking lot so you dont have to worry about street parking. Love this place!! Huge ass selection of every kind of beer you want from all over the world. They have all the Unibroue beers that I love, Trappiste Rochefort 10 and tons of beers I have never tried or heard of. I tried an ale on draft that was so smooth and satisfying, and packed a punch at 9.5% ABV. Awesome! There are board games and books all about beers and the staff there is knowledgable, friendly and welcoming. Best part is that this place is only a few minutes away, and if you want to take their beers to go, it's a $4 discount off the dine in price, so I can take my craft beers to go!! This is a really great concept, kind of an odd execution. Not bad exactly, just not what I expected after looking at their website. As advertised, they have a ton of different types of beer. They're all in coolers at the front of the store arranged by alphabetical order and demarcated by a kind of confusing color code system to tell you what type of beer you're looking at. I kind of feel like a better system might be arranging them by type of beer (all the sours in one place, all the RIS in one place, IPA, etc. but that could just be the librarian in me talking). You select your beer(s) from the cooler and take them up to the checkout to be opened/poured and pay. The beers are way more expensive for drink-in than carry out. I think it's like $4 extra per beer if you want to drink it there. Maybe it's a Chicago tax thing. The space is large and there are lots of spots to sit and maybe play a board game or something, but it was also really noisy and lots of people come and go for takeout, so it's not really conducive to browsing and sipping. It feels more like a liquor store where you can sit and drink if you want than a beer bar, which is what I was hoping for. I have never been a coffee shop kind of gal. After checking out Beermiscuous last night, I realize that the problem all along has been the coffee. If only more coffee shops offered beer flights, I just might be one of those folks who camps out all day! I wasn't sure what to expect from this place but the concept really works. I dragged a friend along who doesn't really like bars. As it turns out, the atmosphere in Beermiscuous worked out for both of us. We both got to try some delicious beers in a relaxing environment where we could enjoy some nice conversation. With that being said, you should probably be a beer lover to go there, as that is the main focus. Good thing I fall into that category! We came in for the tasting experience, which includes four 4 oz. pours and one full pour. I generally stick to dark beers but, since there was only one stout on the draft list that night, I decided to get a little crazy and try some different types of beers that I normally wouldn't have. I was thrilled that the entire tap list wasn't comprised of IPA's. It seems like most places I go these days, the only options are IPA's. While there were a healthy amount of them, I also got the chance to try a selection of other types, including oatwine, which is something I've never had before. The beerista was friendly and helpful and I enjoyed the fact that our flight was made up of 4 oz. pours instead of the 2 oz. pours I've had in flights at other places. Sometimes you need more than just a few sips to decide how you feel about a beer. I actually really liked all of the beers I tried and it was nice going with a friend so that I could try all of theirs as well. Stopped in on a Friday evening and wasn't disappointed. They had 12 beers, fairly rare, on tap with sample sizes available for all of them. Myself and my girlfriend split a flight and exchanged friendly banter with the staff. The bar has a nice setup with splitting the people checking out six packs and people grabbing beer from the bar. The seating is very spacious with soft background music, perfect for a date or place to meet up with friends where you can actually hear each other (yes this is a reference to the review who apparently wants loud music and tvs at a cafe bar). There's no food but with the availability of takeout and delivery places in the area, that wasn't stopping several patrons from chowing down on pizzas and wraps. Wonderful beer selection! Draft menu only has 14 options, but the coolers are filled with about a hundred more. I was a little surprised they didn't have any Three Floyds cooler options. However, just as any above-average bar in the Chicagoland area, they had gumball head on draft--the redeeming factor for such an oversight. This place is a cool spot if you feel like getting a good local craft beer, but don't want an environment similar to some pretentious self-aware places in Wicker or Logan. Prices are reasonable, though a little stiff when opting to drink some of the cooler beers in the cafe as opposed to taking them "to go" (they charge more if you drink the beer at the place rather than just buying it and taking it). Visiting from Hawaii on the first week of October and we tried to check out as many local craft brew spots as we could. We decided to check out Beermiscuous because it reminded me of a tap room/bottle shop back home and it was a 10 minute drive from our hotel. My first impression upon arrival was how huge the bottle/can selection was as well as how friendly Virginia was to us. We grabbed a couple pints from the tap and sat way by the far window (I later regretted not sitting closer to the tap because we could've made friends with everyone a lot sooner) we chose out some brews to take back home with the help of Virginia and friends. Not seeing a single beer I recognized from Hawaii and the west coast, suggestions were greatly appreciated. We were also introduced to Malört before we left which I'll never forget haha. I've been here 4 times since it opened and really like their "coffeehouse replaced with beer" concept. - I doubt there's a larger beer selection in Chicago. -The guys running the place are incredibly helpful with any questions on any types of beer. -It's a more chill place that's cleaner than almost any bar I've been to -The music's low enough that I can hear the conversation with my friends. -Free pretzels -They have wi-fi available, which is nice if I want to just hang out and bring in my laptop, although I haven't done that yet. -They sell beer to-go -I like their ordering process. It's a line at a cash register similar to a coffeeshop. As a shorter male, this is appreciated since many bartenders seem to serve females faster, or I get boxed out by larger dudes. The unusual name issue aside, and the lack of slightly later hours that would make it a tad more preferable to me, this place is awesome. And is definitely a nice relief, from some of the douchy bars that would make me want to go to a different neighborhood otherwise. I treat it as a place to have a few beers on tap(& occasionally a bottle of some beer), and more get several to go since you save money that way. Very laid back, which is always a good factor for a bar to have, with also a touch of the friendly feel that many coffeehouses have. Plus of course, the clever 'beerista' employee title. Don't forget to sign up for a rewards account as well, as each 10 points will give you $1 off any purchase. And you can use those rewards on both beer purchases for there, and to go. They have complementary pretzels, and as they don't serve food, you can bring food from anywhere else inside. Your receipt here(keep in mind you have to ask for a paper one to be printed, since they don't give it to you otherwise) gets you discounts at least at Gyros on the Spit and also Jim's(a thai and sushi place IIRC), which are both immediately north of here. There's something about Beermiscuous that speaks to me on a spiritual level. Maybe it's the impressive selection of craft beers, maybe it's the hipster-chic interior, maybe it's the board games and free wifi. Maybe it's the perfect mix of all three. This place is great! I love the coffee house feel with the wainscoting and couches. They have a dizzying selection of beer available to go and an interesting, rotating, selection on tap. It's a (seemingly) eclectic mixture of things I've grown familiar with at the grocery store riddled with a bewildering array of bottles covered in gorgeous labels that I've never seen before. The staff are attentive and knowledgeable and are comfortable making recommendations if you're undecided or vacillating between choices. It's super clean and fairly quiet so you actually can get work done but not so much so that you would feel coming here just with some friends to chill. With twelve beers on tap (three of which were stouts - a rarity), there's guaranteed to be something any craft beer lover will like. If not, then choose between the shelves upon shelves of bottles.
