There was a live band playing old school music and the vibe was all around welcoming. The bartender wasn't really social but she did acknowledge us and handed some menus. I decided to order a Shirley temple with a splash of Tito's for my drink and went with the Irish lamb burger for my meal. The burger was a lamb patty, caramelized onions, grilled apple, Brie cheese, greens and a curry aioli that I asked be put on the side. The meal also came with a side of fries. I didn't like the aioli so I requested bbq sauce to add to the burger. The meal was super super delish. Fries were crispy but lacking in the seasoning department. Quick fix with salt and pepper. Overall good eats. The only thing I didn't like was being charged for 2 oz ramekin of bbq sauce. I felt like that could've just been complimentary. Other than that great experience, and I recommend.

I'm in Mississagua for a week of work and decided to stop by this rather unassuming pub for a pint…read moreand quick bite. The decor is very "Irish discount Applebees", without the typical rustic vibe of a classic shebeen. With 90s music bopping out of the speakers, I grabbed a 20oz at the bar and asked what on the menu was good. I was recommended the margherita pizza and went for it. Praytell, dear reader, that the tale I unfurl for you next is not an exaggeration in any sense of the word. The item advertised as pizza arrived shortly thereafter and, upon first glance, it was clear that the plate placed before me held a prosecutable hate crime against the cuisine of Ireland, Italy, AND Canada. The highly-touted "homemade crust" was fingernail-thin had the consistency and flavor of a giant Saltine cracker, sans salt. The single topping, as far as I could tell, consisted of some form of shredded orange cheese. A faint crimson smear adorned the crust, but whether there was tomato sauce, basil, or any other seasoning typically found on pizza under said orange cheese was not discernible. The distinct "melted cheese on a cracker" flavor certainly did not imply there was anything other than these two items imprisoned on my poor plate. While the service was fine and the decor, while not what one would expect from a shebeen, was serviceable, Mississauga's The Irish Shebeen will go down in my culinary history as **the absolute worst** "pizza" I have ever eaten in my entire life. I would plead to the business' owners to throw this recipe directly into Lake Ontario, but that would be supremely unfair to whatever lives in Lake Ontario.

Wing night is Monday, and the last 3 times I have partaken the wings were just terrible. Small, over cooked, very little meat. Scruffy Murphy's is exactly what you want from a neighborhood Irish pub in Etobicoke: warm,…read moreunpretentious, and reliably good most of the time. Walk in and you're hit with that classic pub smell--wood, beer, and something frying--and it instantly feels comforting. The dark interior, Guinness mirrors, and Celtic knick-knacks give it genuine character without feeling like a theme-park knockoff. The patio out back is a nice bonus when the weather cooperates, and the live music on weekends is usually a talented one-man-band or duo who know how to work the room. Food-wise, it's mostly a home run. The wings are massive and come in a honey-garlic that's legitimately addictive, the fish & chips batter is crisp and greaseless, and the shepherd's pie is proper comfort food--hearty, well-seasoned, and served scorching hot. The Irish nachos (potato slices instead of tortilla chips) are a fun twist and disappear fast. Prices are very fair for the portion sizes; you'll leave full without feeling robbed. Service is friendly 9 times out of 10. The staff are the type who remember your name after two visits and pour a perfect pint, but on busy nights (Friday/Saturday after 9 pm) it can get stretched thin. Small gripes aside, Scruffy's is still one of the best pure pubs in Etobicoke. Great spot for a casual pint, catching the game, or a no-fuss plate of elevated pub grub.

Friday night, downtown Toronto, what can go wrong?…read more Apparently, Cold Tea. With such high expectations, a girlfriend and I took the time to head to Kensington and check out the place all of our friends have been raving about. Through the doors of the Kensington Square, pass a second hand shop, you'll find a black door at the end of the hallway. That's when you've hit Cold Tea! Follow the music, that usually helps. Greeted by the host and seat in a table amongst others. It is a smaller space so everyone ends up being squished together, but that's the experience you go for. Accompanied by loud r&b/hip-hop music, to get you in the zone! MENU: I feel as though Cold Tea's menu tried too hard to be creative or unique. The random combinations of food and flavours, drove me away rather than intrigued me. But that could be just a personal preference. FOOD: Tofu guacamole was probably the only thing that seemed appetizing to me and my best friend, because who doesn't love avocados? DRINKS: Wide range of beers and selective cocktails! BAD NEWS: My best friend was seated near the coloured wall on the bench area. 20mins into being at Cold Tea, I noticed a cockroach crawling behind her (as seen in the photo). I didn't want to make a scene and concern other customers, so I pulled my friend away from the wall. I lost my appetite and felt the urge to get up and leave. I've never been to a place where I've seen a cockroach mid meal. That was an instant NO. SERVICE: Whether our waiter had a bad day or not, he came off a bit too strong. He was quite aggressive with taking our orders, and only smiled when it came to the bill. Maybe it was due to the loud music, rough day or who knows what? I understand it happens, but it was just unfortunate that this happened all at once and during our first time here. Not too sure if I'll ever come back, but I hope management is able to improve the place! Better luck next time?

This was Game 7! Do or die! We were all adorned in Jays' paraphernalia and arrived early to get seated before it got crowded. There were already many Jays fans sitting along the tables. We sat down at the bar and were greeted by a beautiful and friendly bartender, Deja. She asked us how we are. We told her we were from out of town. She knew our friends very well, and she raced around the bar to give them a huge hug. She hugged us, too! We ordered a couple of Blue Jay beer specials, and we got very comfortable. Deja was interested in where we were from and if we had family. We have two grown kids who are away at school. She showed us a picture of her adorable 3-year-old daughter. She loves her so much, and you could see she was a great mom! It started getting busier as it was closer to game time, and at this point, there was only standing room. She had two barbacks help her get the orders in. The game was on, and it was getting louder and louder as people were cheering for our JAYS! It was complete madness with so many people that you couldn't breathe. But the environment was so energetic and fun, we didn't care. We could see how busy Deja was, yet she attended to everyone's orders and never missed a beat in a professional and friendly manner. She was truly amazing! I could never handle so many people at once. The night went by, and we all know the undesirable result of the game. The entire room was in shock, and their faces were just drained in disappointment. I felt like the overwhelming sadness was shared in the room, and we all began to console each other. At that point, some discouraged people stayed and drank some more, but we needed to go. Deja thanked us, and she ran around the bar, and we all had a vigorous group hug, knowing it would be okay. We will heal. We gave her a great tip, and she thanked us and asked us to come back again. We definitely will. I highly recommend stopping by the Bull on Bloor! We made great memories and new friends.
