    Jerky chips

This Jerky store put Luna beach and pier area on the map for me. While traveling to and through Michigan this little store popped up on the map and we decided to give it a try, thanks for previous yelp photos. Sampled the cherry maple beef jerky and decided to purchase a few snack packs for some canoeing and later. The have your typical beef jerky, but also wild game. (Buffalo, Venison, Rabbit). Some unique products like jerky seasoning, beef sausages and smoking chips. Easy access off I75 and the product is a great snack for beach day in Luna.

At first it seemed like finding good food between Toledo and Detroit would be impossible, but off the side of the 75 we found Mecca (Meatca). A small shop across from a gas station that only sold meat and things that go with meat. It was the closest my adult life has matched me to the saying, "like a kid in a candy store." Inside were a half dozen rows of barrels, barrels filled with meat. Each on flavored and spiced differently. Each with its own type of animal, that was hand grown and dried into chewy meaty perfection. At first I coughed at the $18lb price, but then a helpful sign reminds customers that a 4oz pack of store bought jerky can easily cost upwards of $5. Do the math. I settled on a few varieties of beef, and the best ham jerky (the only ham jerky) I've ever had. Everything I got was delicious and some of it never made it back home. One of the best finds outside the jerky was the microwave popcorn bags filled with pork rinds! I already ate my two bags of the dehydrated dried pork crisps and am going to get a case off Amazon soon. The staff man was very pleasant and helpful and let us taste anything we wanted. I tried the spiciest jerky they had on the floor and it made my mouth numb for the next 20 minutes. I later learned they have something behind the counter that is worlds spicier. So if you're ever trapped in that part of America, get yourself some meat!

We've made Beef Jerky Unlimited our required stop when we travel to Michigan, for over a decade. It's always delicious!

They have some weird stuff here. Erie, Michigan is not exactly a booming metropolis or Haven for culturally diverse food, but tucked away unassuming off the highway is a hidden gem known aw Erie IGA. I was able to find some eastern European Staples and oddities. Think big lots meets a flea market for groceries and booze. They do have fresh produce and fresh meats, (and typically even fresh pizza) but a lot of what they have is odd overstocked nearly expired items. Not to complain, because expiration dates are just dates that say best used by... They aren't truly expired. And as a bargain hunter, I love paying half the amount for food that is still perfectly fine. Let's talk booze, beer, and wine. This place is staffed Floor to ceiling in one section full of bargain and bizarre. alcohol options. If you have never been here, you have to go in to understand what I am talking about. When I throw parties, this is my stop for a way to cheaply pump my guess full of drunken delight. They also have some houseware stuff sprinkled in between the nearly expired freezer food, and the Eastern European soup options. My husband and I spent over an hour just looking at everything. We went in to pick up some cabbage on our way home from an event a few years back and left with $100 worth of food and alcohol that looks more like $300 worth. I'm not sure if the owner is Russian or Ukrainian, but he was cool is hell. I picked up the best frozen spinach pies I have ever had. They had blitzes and my favorite kosher split pea soup in the freezer. We try to go back every three months or so even though it's completely out of our way just so we can see what cool finds they have procured. The days of small grocery stores are numbered, but every time I see one I go in. And usually, I keep going back. Maybe it's the nostalgia, maybe it's the 1950s housewife in me, but I love a good small town grocery store.

I picked my son up from school and almost got a hot and ready, but this is closer and doesn't require me to drive out of my way. I called and someone answered immediately. $6.49 for a medium vs $6.99 for a large? I went for the large. I was told 15 min and it was actually a little less than that. When we walked in the lady had just finished boxing it up. We took it to the register at the entrance to pay. In and out simple as that! Pizza was hot and delicious!

He forgot his cell that day and walked the two blocks to Danny's to use their phone to call me to pick him up. It would have been another two miles to walk home on a hot day, and he is in his mid 80's, not a good idea. He walked into the store and asked the woman at the cash register if he could use the phone, he had a break down and needed a ride. "NO" was her response. Surprised, and with disbelief, he walked back to the meat counter where two men were working and said again, "could I use the phone please" ? Both totally ignored him as if they didn't hear!!!!! Very fortunate that a man my husband had worked with came in right then, and offered to take my husband home. What has this world come to that three people in that store refused to let a Senior citizen use the phone when he had a car brake down? This was stunning, shocking, surprising, and really CRUEL too, on a 90 degree day. He would have had to walk the two miles home if that customer had not come in. This experience has put a new light on this local business that we have patronized for years. It's the neighbors here who keep them open, and this is how they treat customers and neighbors! This will not be soon forgotten.
