My fiancée and I came here for a weekend stay and like the hotel, the restaurant was just a little bit off. Everything seems fine on the surface; nice dining room, nice flat ware, beautiful building, etc. But when you scrape below the surface, the mediocrity shines through. Or whatever word you would use to something dull being exposed to the world. My main complaint is the service. The timing of the dishes was off, too quick or too slow, and the staff was either bubbly or gruff. It was an odd experience. I order a steak and though it was pretty good (if a bit fatty for a sirloin) but they didn't offer a sauce with it. I eventually talked them into a jus but it was pretty sad. How can you make a flavourless jus?
Breakfast was more of the same. You usually get the same type of deal at English country hotels; a continental spread and some combination of English breakfast or Eggs Benedict, something of that ilk. This was no different except it was French Toast instead of Eggs Benedict. How exciting! Except the French Toast was dreadful. It was like someone described what French Toast was but they had never made it before.
Overall I would give the restaurant a miss. read more
