They've put more thought into the decor this time round but I'm not 100% sure about the weird fluffy clouds hanging from the ceiling. It's clean, simple and looks more up market than your average country pub. The bar sells a good selection on lager, ale, cider and wine but it's pricey, a small pino cost £4.65. The food menu is typical of an up market gastro pub and it all sounded lovely, mains cost anything between £9-16. They also had posh bar snacks like a pint if prawns and a number of specials that sounded good. As it was lunch I opted for a rare beef sandwich which was £6.50. The bread was freshly baked, the beef beautifully cooked and all presented on a board with some token leaves that we're light dressed. As far as sarnies go this was a great one. I wouldn't go to this pub for a night out as it would probably bankrupt you but for a lovely lunch or evening meal I definitely recommend.

It's only two miles beyond Clifton, and at the village cross roads is this brilliant little pub. The beer is pretty cheap, the food is superb and reasonably priced (everything well under a tenner) and it feels exactly like what it is: a cosy village pub. Afterwards, you could do worse than head a mile down Manor Road (where the pub is) to Abbots Pool, a beautiful, historic woodland with a big lily-covered fishpond at its heart.

There's good reason for this: it's because it's that place next to the Fleece and Firkin. It's at its busiest when there's a gig next door, as people nip in for a pre-gig pint (my mate once saw Rik Witter playing pool in here; I'd just like to make it clear that I wasn't there and that I'd never pay to watch Shed 7). They also do free gigs of their own of the predominately acoustic nature on Sunday afternoons, sometimes with cheap beer offers thrown in. An old man's pub, the place itself is a little olde worlde with ales on tap, an aging clientele and a pool table around the back. Not a place to seek out, but if you're in the vicinity or there's a gig on, it's worth a look for a quick pint.

I did the high tea for the first time and it was a little disappointing they didn't come around and refresh our tea and it wasn't it wasn't all I've hoped it would be but oh well. The breakfasts were great by UK standards. The room was fine it was big. As with a lot of places in Europe that didn't have air conditioning and didn't have screens on the windows. We had called ahead and asked for sheets on the beds which we appreciated them doing I enjoyed exploring the grounds and the English Gardens. There were sheep nearby which I enjoyed walking to see. As a part of our room we were told we got an hour in the spa so in the US that means massage facial pedicure that's not what that means there. It meant that you got an hour in there pool jacuzzi area which I thought was very strange. And I figured if they were giving you a time like that that we'd have it all to ourselves not not at all nope nope nope nope. I've never been at a place that had a pool and a jacuzzi and they gave you only an hour that was really weird. But they did have a sauna and steam room also that counted in the meager hour that you were given. Personally I didn't like that policy. There's not a whole lot around that area so anything you go do you're spending quite a bit in transportation. But this is the nicest place in the area. A great place to have an event like a wedding. There's things around the facility that tell the history of the building which is interesting to read about it was a hospital and I think even a prison. But either way it is very well restored my husband's company thought about buying it for their headquarters and I'm glad they didn't because they wouldn't have did it justice. It needed a lot of money to make it gorgeous again.
