It's almost like stepping back in time. A dark moody bar dressed all in dark woods greets you. It is very charming and welcoming. I sampled a couple of meads all very interesting. In the end I got a 4 pack of Antrim Apple Pie Mead in cans ($12). While I didn't quite get apples out of the taste it was extremely smooth and fun to drink. The person I was with got a tart cider called Mr Ed. She got a Howler which is about $10 to fill plus the price of the bottle. The service was top notch. Super friendly and knowledgeable. Happy to help you find your mead or cider. Overall a 5 star review. Would I return? Yes a great place for a quick trip or to sit back and enjoy a glass. read more

We took a nice little break from the heat at the Bee Well bar during our girls weekend in Bellaire. We tried a flight of meads and were delighted to find they are all carbonated meads as I'm not a fan of still meads (too syrupy). There was a variety on tap and the pricing was reasonable. We have never been to in this lovely establishment because we are die hard beer drinkers. However, I really liked Mr. Ed and Karlie was a huge help to my decision. No food but can bring in whatever you like. Food trucks are in the future. Friendly and warm atmosphere. Owners and employees should be very proud of their business. Fun spot for a dog-friendly outing! Service is kind and quick and helpful. The cider and mead selection was much more extensive than the last time I had been in. We tried two flights of four and still tasted only a fraction of the menu. Dog-friendly outside on the patio tables. Dog enjoyed all the head pats from the folks walking by. This place is great. My friends and I just found out about it by looking at a Torch Lake Wine trail map, which is SO crazy because we go Short's (literally across the street) all the time and have literally parked right in front of Bee Well without noticing it. Short's is great, but there IS more to life than Short's. I'm glad we finally stopped in... We got tasting flights, and I don't think anyone tried anything they didn't like. My favorite, by far, was the Ace of Spades - a maple bourbon cider. It's a really cute cottage-y feeling space inside and it's not huge - there's pretty much just the bar seating and a couple tables in the windows out front. They don't have foodly food here, but they do have snacks, and music, and nice people and great cider/mead and I will for sure be back many times. read more

What a great meadery. This was the second time I have been here and both experiences were great. I was so happy to see that it was busier this time than last time, but that doesnt mean you do not get good service. There is a big enough bar in there to always have a few open stools, there are several tables to sit at as well. The guys behind the bar were stellar, they are great at giving you suggestions on what to order, and even the local patrons in there were helping us pick our drinks out. This spot was so cute and such a unique concept. Coming from a place with 5 breweries within 3 square miles, I loved this new take on the brewing business and wish it was closer to where I live! The cider and Meade were all very tasty! Even the ones who are labeled as "sweet" were on the dryer side. If you want grub, bring your own! They only have drinks here. Bee Well makes amazing mead and cider. I don't drink mead often but the Zest Hopped - dry hopped mead was great- the best I've had. For me it's the cider that makes this place really special. This cider stands up to the best French, British, or Spanish ciders- tart, complex, great pairing with food. They make a few sweeter, fruitier ones as well but no one makes a single sourced Reine des Pomme cider, and very few make cider from wild UP apples. If you like Vino Verde or Belgian sours you really should stop by. If you think Virtue cider is the best in Michigan you should stop by. Also great ambiance, really nice people.. read more

What a treat in downtown Bellaire! Immediately, I was struck by the cleanliness, friendly greeting, and little details all over the space. There is a hive on the wall! Function and art working together! I'm not much of a drinker and the bartender took the time to explain and answer all my questions before I settled on a flight tailored for me. Since we generally head up north to make the rounds of wineries, now I know to always split a flight here with a friend- otherwise I won't be at the top of my game to keep drinking at the next places! read more

Great little family owned meadery that makes some wonderful and interesting ciders and meads. They seem to understand their materials well and all the flavors in their drinks are very well balanced. WE left witha dry hopped cider and one of their dryer ciders. Their ciders range from sweet to dry - i tend to prefer dryer styles because you get more of the fresh apple flavor. I missed their blueberry still mead, I'd love to go back and give it a try if they brew it again. Great prices and a nice little place to visit, as well. their punk rock t shirts are fantastic and they get tons of points for those. read more

This was an exceptional stop. The cider and mead were fantastic, excellent variety and really fun presentation! The two of us shared two flights ($12 each), each with four options. It was perfect, really reasonably priced- an exciting variety of mead and cider. Probably the most interesting variety of distinct flavors, sources, and finishes we had ever experienced in one sitting. All were super drinkable, and the variety really made for an exciting tasting experience. In particular, they had a cider made from wild Michigan apples that was super unique. The pear cider also stood out, along with pretty much all the meads. If you wanted, you could try every option on the menu in 3-4 flights, have a great night of cider and mead, and still be able to get home safely. All for $36 bucks. Service was excellent, atmosphere vibrant, and the crowd really felt welcoming, fun, and just rowdy enough to show everyone was having a great time. As a gay couple, the small-town experience can go wrong pretty quick- we have definitely had varied experiences in rural Michigan!- and we felt so comfortable/welcome with the crowd and staff. Bee Well has a lot going for itself! What a great location downtown. Our coach driver from the resort, Al, told us to we HAD to check out Bee Well after we had visited Short's Brewery. We noticed and appreciated the fresh flowers in the entrance and immediately were blown away with the smell of "newness" in the store. It was seriously the bast smelling place with lilac in the windows and ciders on everyone's table. The owners girlfriend came to chat with us and we were glad she did, she's awesome! The ciders we chose were lovely. I would recommend some munchies down the road, but we came on opening day and were very impressed with this place. We were in Bellaire, staying at Shanty Creek, for a long weekend. We had plans to go to Short's both Friday and Saturday night, and Saturday night I ended up accidentally with two reservations at Shorts. Enough skiing for a day, we headed into town and decided to see what this Mead place was all about before our evening at Shorts. The first thing - the scent when you walk in... like a grown up cider mill in a natural pine forest. Smelled amazing. Decor was really cool and very cozy. We found a small table and were greeted right away by a couple different friendly staff members. I kind of like ciders, husband thought he'd try a mead, but we were really just killing a few minutes. I picked a couple to try and the bartender made some suggestions too. When we tried our first samples, my husband and I stared at each other - this stuff was awesome. So much better than we expected! The tastes were rich and complex, and none of them had that super sweet fake green jolly rancher taste that you find in other popular canned ciders. They had so many varieties - how could they taste different?? But they were all unique and such a fresh taste. Anyway, we had such a great time, we skipped our first Short's reservation to stay for another round. Then we got 2 four packs to bring home. We enjoyed the cherry vanilla mead, and a cider called Ghost - full of peppery delicoiusness. Please give this cool local place a try! It was awesome! read more

By far the best cider & mead I have ever had. I love the friendly and cozy atmosphere. The owners are amazing and so nice, they treat you like family. Having the only music come from a record player is a great touch, I recommend to anyone that is traveling in the area. Super cozy, hip, rustic space in the very cute little town of Bellaire. Really friendly, helpful, patient staff, especially for those of us who aren't educated in the world of mead and cider and had many questions before ordering. Vinyl was spinning and there are old school games and it's all just a really great hipster vibe with delicious drinks to boot. Local soda's for the under 21's was awesome too.
