She asked how I wanted them done, I asked for just a clean up as we both agreed that going thinner would not look good. However, after my eyebrows were done, I felt there were just a touch thinner than I wanted but still very smooth and clean. The tech was friendly and the price was more than reasonable. I also have a very strong preference for Indian salons, as threading for eyebrows is a part of their culture. Finding an Indian-owned salon to get my brows done in South Jersey was hard, until I found Padma's. Voorhees has a wide variety of Indian-owned stores ranging from clothing, to food, to salons. Padma's offers many types of salon services and henna. I have now been going every few weeks for my brow threading over the course of several months. Padma's is located in a strip mall in Voorhees. It's not your average fancy or aesthetically-pleasing salon. However, it offers a good variety of salon/spa services as well as Indian wedding makeup. The women who work here are dedicated and do a great job. Because Padma's is well-staffed, they are able to accommodate a good number of customers at once. For eyebrow threading/waxing, appointments aren't required. I have never waited longer than 10 minutes to get my threading done. Overall, I really like this place. The women who work here all do a great job. While they're not focused on exceptional customer service, they still do their best to make conversation and be friendly. For anyone who is familiar with foreign-owned businesses, Padma's has some of that sentimental "back home" feel. Their pricing is also much lower than others in the area; they charge $6 for brows and $4 for upper lip. This place is a true gem; I always make sure to plan my threading around the times in the area.

So you ask.. how did I turn into a Dorothy Dandridge Goddess lookalike? .. Or, more frankly, from…read morea bear to a non-bear? ;) This Indian salon-- my friends have been trying to get in on this so here it is: If there is one thing India prides more than the exquisite cuisine of the land, the lush forests, the stunning palaces, the spectacular fashions: it's the beauty of Indian women. Indian women are so gorgeous! Whether they are young or young-at-heart, there is a grace that shines through. I get inspired and hope to capture a fraction of that Indian beauty, if I can. Yet after quite a few decades on me ;).. I need a bit of help from my salon friends. So I searched far and wide for that perfect Indian salon. Yet I hated the arrogant atmosphere of some of those Indian salons in north NJ/NY. So I avoided them.. and ended up paying a fortune at "nicer expensive" places. The gorgeous Indian NJ girls kindly let me in on their secret of one right here in South Jersey... and this place is an oasis! They do hair, skin, waxing, nails, et all. I hear they even do incredible thermal reconditioning / japanese hair straightening-- at a very low rates. Now that's rare. Moreover, they do it with no hoo-haaa or airs of the other places.. nor do they force your wallet to go on a diet. The prices are so right-- an incredible fraction of those expensive places. Who would have thought a simple little hidden salon in the back of an Indian grocery store would turn up such treasures? It is run by two lovely sisters, Sital and Sonal.. and they are so sweet and talented. It is also nice because if you bring your friend(s) along, they can shop at the Indian botique across of it, do Indian groceries, and can eat in the complex restaurants (i.e Curry Cafe)-- and not get bored waiting for you. So it's an all-in-one place.. nice. I've tried their eyebrow threading numerous times and it's a thumbs up: Eyebrow threading is de-facto Indian beauty treatment -- an ancient art. Eyebrow threading is so much preferable to waxing (much more elegant precision, much faster, no allergies, less pain.. and much more refined-- as the thread is expertly used to create the removal/precision.). All this for a mere $4.00!! And me being a total bear, the sweet girl spent nearly a half hour perfecting it-- whereareas most places start giving you attitude if you want more than 5 minutes (actually threading is fast and takes only about 5 minutes-- so to be fair, spending more than 5 minutes may be a bit too much... but she will do it if you want that). I never get more compliments than after she threads it for me-- I literally get transformed-- and with my years-- that's quite a feat. People say... came back from a vacation...? you look so fresh.. This is not the case when I have it done by others. I went to an expensive spa recently and they all wanted to know where I got my brows done-- even the spa personnel who does eyebrow waxing wanted to know. She's that good.. that sweet.. to take her time to do it right. She listens to what you want. Bring photos (or not) and she will work with you. Just the other day, I needed an elaborate extensive hair service for an event and they were booked for a month. Seeing my dire need, the girls actually rescheduled their hectic schedules, placed me in for the whole day, and will be doing it for me. **Update: The hair turned out incredible. They took all day to do it- they even skipped lunch to finish up. They are SUPER. ** So now you know my secret to being the Dorothy Dandrige - Goddess. :) well.. almost. ;)

She took into consideration my request and threaded my eyebrows exactly how I wanted. For that and the rest of my face, a total of $10. TEN DOLLARS. Some places charge $7-10 for just eyebrows. For such a lovely job, I would've been happy to pay double. Highly recommended. And next time, I'm going grocery shopping, too. Those aromas are irresistible.

I've been coming here to get my nails done since before the business moved to the Voorhees location, but this was the first time I had a horrible experience. It started out with the technician pulling on my hand and giggling and chatting to her coworker, who was staring at me...which is when I first started to feel uncomfortable because I did not know what they were discussing, and with pointed looks, I got the feeling they were giggling at me. During my service, another customer came in and requested my technician. My technician who was in the middle of my service huffed after being told she had to continue with my service before taking the new client who was a bigger ticket client. The new client ended up going with a different employee for her pedicure. After this, my technician seemed annoyed and her work was rushed and sloppy. I was not given the complementary hand massage. I was shocked when I had 2 shorter nails on my index and middle finger. I asked why they were shorter, and was told something like, "you are a lesbian, are you not?" I didn't know how to respond and just accepted the work. My nails were not the length I would have liked, she did them much shorter. Because of how short they were, they looked so chunky and unnatural. I was horrified at the result but am non confrontational, so I paid for my service and left. My nail beds actually hurt to the point I had to remove the set after a few days. I am very disappointed in this technician's behavior towards me and I am left questioning how they treat other lgbtq+ customers. I hope that this was a bad day for her and that she doesn't treat customers like this regularly. Unfortunately after the treatment from the technician and the low quality of my service I will no longer be patronizing this establishment.

I asked if there were books for the acrylic since the books that were out were for gel. I was assured all the colors were good regardless of the method. When I finally got in the chair, the nail tech came over, specified what I wanted and then questioned me about why I wanted a full set acrylic. She said my toe beds were nice so why. I said that I was allergic to gel polish and I didn't like the way regular nail polish was on my toe nail. She proceeded to ask me why acrylic nail. Is it because I wanted longer nail or thicker. I replied the same about the allergy and the fact regular polish just doesn't do justice. She said okay and walked away. A few minutes later we had the same conversation. This time around she asked me what happens when gel polish is on. I informed her that I got serious burn blisters, itchy toes and then eventually peeling of skin and the way my toe nails look like they're separating from my bed. She tells me to try out the liquid gel as it is not the same as regular gel polish. As she is a LICENSED NAIL TECH, I assume she knows what she's talking about so I agree. She does the base with the liquid gel and then confirms the regular polish color I would like. A minute later she suggests I do the gel polish, as the liquid gel set the precedent. She tells me that if it bothers to come back............ she then rushed through the rest of my pedicure, even so much as not curing the polish properly. AFTER I specified I had an allergy to the polish, I would think every step would be adequately done. Fast forward to 4am and my toes are itching like crazy, I have a huge chemical burn blister, other small blisters are forming, and one of the toes peeled off. I had to pull off all of the rest of the nails because I cant soak off with blisters. As a nail tech, I get you have your ideals, however, when someone comes in knowing what they want, don't suggest differently. As an adult I realize I should have stood firm, but I thought something new came on the market and my nail tech knew what she was doing. Now I have a flare up from the gel and I have to go through itching, peeling and separating and it's flip flop and sandal season!

I usually like to stick with a classic French look given my job so they suggested a french ombré style nail they can do with the dip which turned out incredible. I've been getting it ever since! The dip is much lighter on my nails (they don't have that "can't breathe" feeling) and actually thinner than usual acrylic yet somehow they've lasted me up to a month on a few occasions when I wasn't able to go sooner. Plus it has the added benefit of allowing my natural nails to grow and when they take off the dip acrylic they don't break or feel paper thin. My lady always takes her time, making sure everything's perfect, and does an incredible job on a consistent basis. They are so sweet, always welcoming, and provide me with cute ideas that they think I'll like which I appreciate. I recently got a light glitter over the ombré nails which they suggested and I couldn't be happier. I honestly have no complaints. If you're looking for high frills like they have in the city then go to the city - but if you're looking for high quality nails, artistry and kindness at a local spot then this place is perfection.
