BEST DIVE EVER excellent fresh food here, everything I've had is fantastic. This is the Cleveland state college bar but really I've basically seen the working man lunch crowd. It's great. Today I had wings. Prior the chicken salad sandwich, the little Becky burger the big Becky burger I've had the tacos. I had a salad with the chicken salad on it. Everything is so fresh. They have a kitchen that is proud of their work. It's a big place with a storied history, back in the 80s this was the old exedra bar you can look it up. There is a reason that dance floor and the bar is shaped the way it is it's hilarious. I looked it up because I thought this was an old concert club and the bartender told me oh you looked it up and we were dying laughing. They have a free parking lot. It really helps a lot to drive business five stars for dive bars. This place is awesome. read more

Food was awesome. We got it to go and it was still good I can't complain. However I can complain on the customer service it wasn't the best and it took a 45mins to get our to go order. Even though we ordered to go we sat at the bar wasn't asked if we wanted to order drinks or like some water while we wait. read more

I was a frequent patron of Becky's when I worked downtown and knew Tim (Owner) personally. I was informed by Ivy that Tim was semi-retired. At that time I discussed with Ivy 2 - 3 weeks ahead of time that I wanted to reserve a place for 15 - 20 people for food and drinks as we were meeting to have a toast in memory of our previous employer that had past away. I emailed and texted her before the event and received no response after our initial contact. I got there 45 min early only to find Ivy didn't notify her staff of our upcoming arrival and they were totally unprepared. We could not get anyone to come over to our area to take drink and food orders. There was in fact an early Guardians game but there wasn't a big crowd at all. I thought since I had notified her previously that she would have staff that would be able to take care of our group. Staff had to call her several times before she answered. They were totally unprepared and after texting & emailing her my disappointment I received a damage control response from Ivy where she stated we had 50 people which was not true at all. I have received much better service back in the day here and I will never return there. read more

Definitely a dive bar. Not a "classy or upscale" establishment. Parking is limited. BUT, drinks are cheap, well made, and the food is classic fried inexpensive "bar food". This is a place for locals who don't want to dress up and pay high prices for cocktails downtown. We go here during home games at CSU and order cheap pitchers of beer to share and get excellent treatment by the staff. They really love having CSU students and families come in. read more

On multiple visits this was an acceptable dive bar. One professional bartender kept me coming back. Wish I could remember her name. Very outgoing and a great multitasker. But one unprofessional bartender has forced me to seek out other neighborhood dive bars. You cannot employ people who expect to be pre-tipped for sub par service. They need to find another line of work, maybe government where you are paid whether you do the job or not. I work hard for my money, you should too if you want some of it. Dive bar Like many others on here, I was looking for a place after a day of meetings where I didn't have to get all dressed up or run the possibility of meeting people I had just seen. Becky's fit the bill perfectly. Sometimes you just want to unwind with a cocktail and some decent grub and review the day - this is the perfect place for doing just that. Food was solid bar grub with a lot of your fried goodies and some very decent burgers. The crowd is a mixed bag of locals and some visitors from the nearby hotels. To say the crowd is eclectic is an understatement. One of my favorite things about being out is people watching and this place delivered in spades. There were some interesting peeps there the times I have been in there - couples, co-workers and the completely insane were all represented. There is a random jukebox that tosses on tunes every "x" amount of minutes and there are plenty of TV's at the bar so you can keep an eye on the happenings of the day. Bartenders are decent and seemingly know when to give you more or less attention - perfect. Prices are cheap - the interior is nothing to brag about and the bar is large with plenty of seats. All in all a good place to hide out and grab a cocktail. Plenty of people to interact with - or not. Parking lot is on the miniscule side - so it is probably easier to just walk over from the hotels (at least in the warmer months). read more

I've passed this bar everyday for the past two years of living in Cleveland! One night I really wanted wings, one of those pregnancy cravings. My co-worker always spoke about Becky's but I never sent it was a bar and I didn't wanna go pregnant but thank God for late night cravings! I stopped in for lunch and ordered the jerk wings to start. They were excellent. I ordered the steak sandwich with fresh cut fries as my meal. The sandwich was very good and the fresh cut fries put the meal over the top for me. I will be back again for sure. read more

It's a dive, but a nice dive. The scary bathrooms are quickly forgotten after you taste the incredible potato skins. I was in shock and they even say on a bed of real sliced homemade potato chips. Truly amazing. And the prices are super low. It started off about 330 very quiet. But by 5pm the place was full and people were really enjoying themselves. Recently arrived from los angeles for work. As a nightlife professional, i was looking for a low key dive bar to unwind after a long day. Read the yelp and google reviews, and it seemed like it might be a good match for me! The food... I've eaten wings all over the country and i take my wings seriously. The carribbean jerk and medium buffalo wings-- easily top 10 in the country! Crispy, perfectly seasoned, and juicy!! Not a single dry wing in any orders I've placed. Kudos to the Chef! Drinks... Many, many local beers in cans, bottles, and tap. And, they had a local spirit-- a honey locust bourbon that was amazing. Very complex flavor and smooth. Service... Patrick and David couldn't be more accommodating! They assisted me in my dinner selections, and gave me great beer choices as well. Hospitality was beyond welcoming and appreciated. Ivey, the manager, was helpful in explaining the city to me. Venue is clean. Bathrooms were clean. And the crowd was a great mix of business people, locals, nurses, and laborers. Had to close a bar Downtown to get prepped for my 3:00 AM Amtrak trip to Chicago, and Becky's fit the bill. I'd been before both decades ago and in recent years, but the decades-ago part was forgotten by the passage of time and the more recent ones, well, forgotten for reasons more directly related to time spent in cheap and divey bars. But that's not an insult: I love cheap and divey bars, and if you want to show me a good time by offereing a good selection of beer (with some craft brews on tap) and liquor with stout pours at Midwestern prices, well, you could do a lot worse. Becky's has free parking, although there's always an element of risk parking in the less-than-stellar area around Playhouse Square. Inside, it's a pretty big split-level space featuring a long bar and tables upstairs. It's a good noise level: you can hear the (pretty good and pretty cheap) jukebox while not having it drown out your conversation, and you can also spend a few hours passing the time without going broke. Good things, all around. Like many bars in Cleveland, it looks a bit like a 50's diner gone to seed, which, for all I know, it just might be. The staff is super friendly and our bartender was quick to grab refills and chase aggressive panhandlers from the place (see note above on the neighborhood). I've heard that the food is surprisingly good, but had already eaten and so didn't find out. In any case, if you're looking for a strong neighborhood hangout near Cleveland State University, I'd certainly recommend this one, horrid bathrooms be damned. read more
