I'm just a bit claustrophobic and the tour was presented in a way (of course after paying the fee), in the film, the height of the dummy walls in the anteroom, I thought I could manage walking through. Noone tells you that you are standing bent (the walls at the beginning of the tour aren't as high as in the anteroom and I'm only 165cm), and therefore closed in from all sides, in that line of people while listening to the tour guide in the front of the line. It would have been no problem for me to walk there, but not to stand there bent for minutes not knowing how long this would take. This was too much, so 50 metres maybe in the Underground Passages. The stylish vestibule could use some additional information.

I was unable to go on the tour so my whole family decided not to do it as they didn't want to leave me sitting downstairs in the brewery shop for an hour on my own. It's such a shame but then it's a very old building and is built with lots of stairs. However the shop is very good and open to the public without an entrance fee.

I wanted to revist here to relive a fond teenage memory of one of my last summer holidays away with…read moremy parents and trip out with my grandparents. It's always a risky business going back to places we remember from our pre adulthood and time can sometimes be cruel to this kind of place. Babbacombe Model Village has kept its wonderfully quaint cuteness and charm I am pleased to report. Not much has changed (in the nicest possible way) and the miniature figures have been lovingly maintained by the dedicated team here. My favourite scene is still the village cricket ground but we were also amused by the mock shop names and plays on words as you walk around and take in each mini scene. A sharp March morning probably meant we took a brisker walk than if we'd ventured here in summer and I'd say it would be a somewhat miserable walk in the rain so try and catch it in the sunshine if you can. If you are taking children make sure you let them know the game of where's wally they can play to spot the popular characters in amongst the other inhabitants, as it just adds an extra level of entertainment for them. I'd struggle to see how you'd spend more than 2 hours here but I cannot stress how lovely the walk around is, serving as a peaceful break from sandcastles, arcades and fish and chips. I'd love to come on one of the evening where they light up the village with illuminations as would think it adds a whole other level of realism to the place which conversely probably only makes it feel more magical. One word, lovely.

Make sure you do check the tide times before you go in, but you can get re-admission via a stamped hand as we did when the tide was in. You probably want it at least half out when you arrive. As you enter through the cliffs the first bits you get to are viewing platforms up the cliffs which you can look over a couple of coves west of the main Ilfracombe beach. You can step down to the beach from the lower two platforms on to the beach. Now you have choice of two main activities, theres a huge abundance of rock climbing, large rock pools with associated animals hiding in them and plenty of places to explore, climb, walk and such forth. You can walk up and down rocks both sides of the Tunnels you walk out of, just be aware of the tide. The main other attraction is the gentlemans bathing pool, which is uncovered by the tide, a large pool that gets left full by the tide, and man man surrounds and warms up with the sun (if its out!). Quite deep and jaggedy in places you have to be careful but it really is good fun. Highely recommended for all ages!

If you are visiting Killerton house, then there is a cottage in the village that is open to…read moreNational Trust. This is worht a visit if you are in the area. You have to park in the village car park and walk to the cottage. It will take about 10 mins to walk there and if it is a nice day then quite a nice walk. Unfortunatly it poured down and we had to run there! The cottage is fascinating, it has been restored to its orginal glory. They uncovered a wall panel dating back to the 16th century. You can walk around all the rooms and then view the garden. In the garden there is an unusual garden house that is worth seeing. Well worth it if you are in the area.

Inside the two Biomes are collections of plants in diverse climates and Environments, the project also showcased extensive gardens with a wide variety of plant and flowers. Of the two Biomes, Mediterranean and Rainforest, I found myself more fascinated with the latter. The rainforest is way too realistic, the swamp, waterfalls and humidity its a good preview for someone who hasn't been to Asia or some tropical countries. The food court is also a destination in its own right; there are so many dishes to choose from as a matter of fact I believe that there were dishes from Africa, South America, Asia and of course some English dishes such as the local Cornish Pasty. It is a truly unique experience for me and I have never seen anything like it.

The terrace outside overlooks the Summerleaze beach where you can watch the tide come in, a massive sandy beach when the tide is out. Can vouch for the chocolate cake and cream tea, scones are light and fluffy, jam is with real fruit and cream is fresh cornish clotted cream. The venue is also great for weddings, with a lovely large lawn outside. Also do not expect to find a traditional castle as such, on top of a hill with a moat and battlements etc. From the back it does not even look like a castle!

There are some very good views from here, especially out to see when its a clear day. Its good to see all types of birds in this area. There is a small musuem and cafe. There is a large car park which always has spaces when i have been there. Be careful with kids as there are some steep drops. There is also an old quarry which is interesting to view although you cant get to it and its hard to see. I have nevr been to the hotel though.
