Scantlings is a really nice holiday house, spotlessly clean, well furnished and decorated, with broadband access. The valley is so deep that mobiles don't work - Yay! The owners are very pleasant and live next door.
The photo shows the view from the balcony. The harbour is always busy, but never noisy - the moorings are reserved for local residents. People swim along the creek, paddle surfboards (standing up) and rafts and sail and row boats. There's a lovely walk around the creeks, a ferry at their confluence and a couple of really nice pubs which are very civilised.
I usually slightly resent having to leave Herefordshire for a holiday, but Newton Ferrers is an exception. The wooded valley is very much like the gorge at Symonds Yat, but with the sea instead of the River Wye. I generally detest the seaside too, but here there are coves to walk to or reach by boat, wonderful rock formations, and lots of butterflies, so we'll be going back. read more
