Delicious authentic Mexican tacos and cemitas (sandwich) !…read more I tried four different tacos carne asada, chicken, barbacoa, and carnitas. All of them were incredible, I particularly liked the Carne Asada and Carnitas as they were crispy crunchy small pieces of tender meat that were super delicious. The salsas that came with the tacos were super delicious as well and had a nice punch to them. I also ordered the Carne Asada Cemita, which had a delicious crunch of lettuce, fresh avocado, fresh serving of meat and a nicely toasted bun with a side of salsa verde. The gentleman who owns the place is very accommodating, and very friendly. I recommended to him to consider making burritos as the combination of their delicious meats, coupled with their fresh vegetables, would make an awesome new to go option. There is a counter to eat, if you would like to have the fresh food right on the spot. This place has by far the most authentic Mexican tacos in the DC area, a competition for DC's best Mexican food must include this place.

The tacos were solid--small, but well-filled and flavorful. I'd come back for those. But the torta was a letdown--probably the worst I've had. The cutlet was tiny, no avocado, dry bread, and nothing really stood out. The agua fresca tasted like watered-down canned pineapple juice, and the salsas lacked flavor. I was hoping this would prove my friend wrong about the lack of great Mexican food in the area... but so far, the search continues.

We were sat right away and I was surprised at how big the restaurant is (way bigger than it looks from the outside!). I started with a hibiscus margarita, which was delicious. Then we ordered a few things to split, including: guac and tostadas, charred cabbage, gorditas with chorizo, aguachile negro, and the beef short rib platter. The charred cabbage was the biggest sleeper hit. It was so flavorful and unlike anything I've ever had before. Everything else was delicious, although the aguachile was probably my least favorite of what we tried. We finished with the rose water tres leches and the dulce de leche crepes. The tres leches were pretty good but the crepes were amazing. I don't usually love dulce de leche, but it was definitely a standout.

If you are planning to visit during popular dining hours, it might be worth it to make a reservation. We arrived during a weekend around 5:30 pm, and the place was somewhat empty. However, by 6-6:15 pm, the place was PACKED. I was a very surprised (in a good way) that the menu was a bit smaller compared to other Mexican/Tex-Mex restaurants in the area. I necessarily do not think the smaller menu is a bad thing because, with a smaller menu, a restaurant can focus on preparing everything well (i.e., it's easier to do a good job with 20-item menu versus a 50+-item menu). For my dining pleasure, I went with the enchiladas suizas with a few margaritas. Overall, I thought my plate was very delicious; however, other diners at my table and I noticed that the portion sizes were a bit small for the price. Perhaps, the restaurant uses higher quality ingredients for its dishes. Although the margarita sizes might appear to be small, they definitely are not "small" in power/punch, so the $13-$18 price range is appropriate. My favorite margarita of the night definitely was the El Jardinero, which was a wonderful mix of carrot, cilantro, peach, lime and a semi-spicy pepper of sorts. Collectively, we all thought the service was exceptional because our waitress constantly visited the table. Personally, I thought it was a bit overkill, but that's a very, very minor complaint based on my very, very personal preference.

The decor is simple, no table clothes or frills but it does live up to 'fine cuisine' with excellent food and presentation (another subtle touch is if you leave the table, you return to a nicely folded napkin). We got nearly everything on the menu including all the desserts and Mexican hot chocolate (yum, lightly spicy and piping hot!) . As others have said their guacamole is excellent...do check the charges though bc they added salsa and chips to the tab which we did not order (they removed). Also, the first order of guac came with big bowl of chips, but none with the second order of guac- not a problem though because you do not go hungry. Portions are quite generous. We even tried the ants which was a fun novelty

After parking in the Giant parking garage (decent price), we walked the few blocks to the restaurant. We spotted it with the poster sign hanging up on the outer walls. Inside you head up the stairs and you're greeted by the host stand. We checked in and got our table, right at the window (hellya). There was a rose and a candle on the table (vday vibes) and we also received a vday specials menu. We landed on queso fundido to start and a cocktail each: prickly pear marg for her, a viva mexico for me. After fundido'ing it up, we ordered our entrees. We're simple folks it was a 2 carne asada tacos, 1 al pastor taco, 1 pescado taco, and 1 chicken quesadilla. Unfortunately we weren't bold enough to try the insectos. Food was great, drinks were great, service was great. You can pay your tab via Toast for no additional fee which was convenient. There are two, single use bathrooms in there too. Overall, solid spot.

Every component is perfect and I wouldn't change a thing. I did really want to try their breakfast burrito and was sad (& surprised) they aren't open for breakfast on Mondays, because online it says they are. Anyways, we got there right when they opened for dinner and others clearly had the same idea. You order inside at the counter, sit and they bring you your food. Our food did take awhile to come out though, and we were giving the tables around us side eye for getting their food before us. We devoured our chips and salsa in the meantime. All 3 salsas are amazing and worth getting! They went great on the burrito too. Matcha horchata and Arnold Palmer were refreshing, and I appreciate the more inventive drinks than your standard taqueria. And now onto the main event... THE California burrito. Man, it made me happy to be alive. We sat on the patio and it was lovely, and shaded by the umbrellas.

The inside was full and the outside was also very busy with people waiting for their orders. This place was very efficient though with getting people their orders in the order received. We waited maybe 25 minutes for the two drinks we had and two burritos. For the drinks we got there lemonade which you can tell was freshly squeezed. You could taste the natural lemon juice from freshly squeezed lemons here no concentrate. I also got a Mexican hot chocolate because my wife loves hot chocolate. We also got breakfast burritos mine included a generous portion of barbacoa. The inside environment is very fast paced and they also have merch! I would give our visit a 9 out of 10. They were very busy but they were so efficient that it was impressive because no one was standing still and they were constantly getting orders out to people who ordered as well as delivery driver orders from apps like uber and doordash at the same time! Their tortillas are also imported from Mexico and you can tell as it adds to the authenticity of the meal. Well done guys, keep up the great work! #sanpancho
