The food just isn't good. I've tried many things. First time was Italian grinder which was really good. Second time getting it, there was barely any meat. Got the barria tacos once. Not good. The corn tortilla just fell apart. Had the fish sandwich, not good. Tasted super fishy. Had the chicken quesadillas. Online, it says it comes with rice and beans. For 15.99 it came with lettuce. Just chicken with taco seasoning in a tortilla. Nothing special at all. I could go on but I've decided, im just staying away. The place was pretty full after the Beaverton Garden Tour. Our table was served promptly and the food arrived in a timely manner. The folks who ordered burgers were pleased with their meals. I ordered the tacos with chicken and with rice and beans. The tacos were tasty though there was an upcharge for chicken as well as for cilantro. The rice and beans were very disappointing- the rice like paste and the beans a hard blob. I let our server know who acknowledged that they did not look appetizing. My group and I went here yesterday. We had never been here before the renovations so I can't speak on my prior experiences. However, the renovations that were done are very nice. The vibe caters to a younger crowd but still ties in well with the older folks. They have music trivia every Monday which we might try soon. There is also a small stage for when they have performers come in to play. As far as the food goes, they have many many options to choose from. I got the Italian sub with the house chips and bother were very good. My one friend tried the soup and salad bar which was decent for the price. The other got the chicken sandwich and was as expected. I have nothing to complain after my first trip here and will definitely be coming back here in the near future. read more

This place has the worst food in Mid Michigan. It is just horrible. The Mexican food is terrible as well as anything else I have eaten there. Waitresses are wonderful, it is their food that is horrible and it is priced as if you were eating gourmet. There just aren't any words for how bad the food is and how high the prices. We used to enjoy stopping at the Beaverton Tavern when we would take M18 South from Houghton Lake. I enjoy Mexican food, and I thought this place would be able to accommodate a simple request. I'm a vegetarian and I would ask if they have black beans instead of just refried. I actually saw black beans listed for one dish, so I thought for sure they could make them available. Unfortunately they said they only offer it in that one dish!? Didn't make sense. And, each time I asked for vegetarian options, the waitress would be sympathetic and tell me that they have told the boss about customers' requests for more vegetarian choices, but were turned down. Also frustrating is that their website boasts "many vegetarian options", when in fact the only option is the salad bar or nachos with just cheese, lettuce, and tomatoes, or a sandwich with very little ingredients!! Finally, the flies during dinner are out of control! I got up to use the bathroom and I had to cover my food with a napkin and ask my husband to keep an eye out for those pesky little bugs!! We'll be looking for another place on our way south on M18 towards US 10 instead of the Beaverton Tavern from now on. read more

I have ate at this place since the late 1980s It is famous for very large burritos and nachos over the years it has changed hands at least 3 times. The best thing for me was the ground beef for tacos.and burritos the ground beef was a very corse ground and tasty. Then the restaurant changed hands and the new owner changed the recipes and with in a few years he had to close the doors. ( probably blamed it on Covid ) but the truth was the the ground beef was way to spicy and juicy it just wasn't good. Fortunately someone purchased the restaurant and renovated it very nicely I had the wet burrito it was very good not the same corse ground beef as the old days but it was good the menu was small but they are going to try their best to recreate the old recipes and I think it will be fine except the salsa could use a update currently it's either Gordon's food service or pase salsa or picante but the chips are homemade read more

For starters, here's their menu, since the owners/manager can't be bothered to post it. I've seen several posts on FB asking, but apparently it's too much trouble. (Or maybe they're ashamed.) OK, so I just got home with take-out, this being our 1st time ordering from there since the new owners Grand Re-Opening. We aren't happy. We used to go to the old BT about once a month or so and never had any complaints, aside from having to wait for a table sometimes because they were so busy. For starters, you cannot call an order in, order on a website, FB, whatever... you have to go in and sit at the bar to order. OK, not in a huge hurry, I can do that. By the time I left, there were 20+ other people either sitting at the bar, ordering take-out, or waiting for a table. Every other person was given chips & sauce while they waited. (I don't think I smell, took a shower right before going there. IDK.) My wife ordered a small Supreme Nachos, and SMALL it was. Kids size is more accurate. $15. Never mind that I ordered it without onions and green peppers. See the pic. (I added the Club cracker for size reference.) Now to give them credit, the tacos I ordered were much better, but for $4 each, they very well should be! Several people want to excuse the pitiful food and/or service because they just recently opened, 2-3 weeks ago I think. That doesn't cut it. We won't be going back. The food was good. A little costly. They need to add more meat and less beans and rice. The ratio wasn't right. Otherwise the food was good. That said I thought that $4.00 for just 2 tablespoons of guacamole was way too much, considering it is included at most if not all mexican restaurants. The renovation made a HUGE improvement. Looks very clean, bright, and welcoming now. Our waitress was very pleasant, and order came quickly. This being said, we did not care for the food. Ordered nachos and tacos, both of which were very bland. The rice and beans that came with the tacos were not good at all; the rice was thick and tomatoey like some of the boxed rice mixes at the grocery store, and the beans were very dense and bland. It seems rare to find a restaurant that can do Mexican rice properly. The ground beef on the nachos was bland and there was far too much cheese on them. Additionally, the prices were fairly high for what you got (15 for nachos, 12 for tacos). I don't mind paying for good quality, but the value was just not there. Probably will not return. read more

I used to go here for lunch when I was the shipping manager for Howe racing, just down the road... My favorite thing about the BT was that you could get burritos in north central Michigan! The service was great as was the atmosphere, but the food, mostly Mexican which is somewhat strange for a place called a tavern, was terrible. We started with the nachos supreme, and that was the best part of an overall terrible meal. The taco salad, Mexican pizza, and large wet burrito ($16) were so disappointing because they lacked balance of their various ingredients - either not enough cheese or enough tortilla or enough lettuce. Went there this past Friday for dinner. I have been there on a name of occasions and the food wasn't bad. This Friday I decided to order the seafood basket with Perch, Walleye and Shrimp. It was the worst fish I ever had at a restaurant. The fish both walleye and perch were over cooked and tasteless even the breading on the fish was tasteless. The fish was thin and was not fit to eat. The shrimp while very small did taste okay. My mother in law had Cod and she said it was not good. First time I ever had fish there and it will be the last. Server Jen came over once to take our order and them again to drop off the drinks and then was never seen from again. The BT is a popular local no-frills hangout with good Tex-Mex food for a non-Mexican restaurant, served in ginormous portions. Their burgers are also good...and on Mondays they're half off; great deal. The beer selection isn't extensive, and if you're looking for Michigan craft beers you need to keep driving to Midland...but if you just want s simple beer and a burger, or a beer and a burrito as big as your head (or other equally epic plate of Mexican food) in an unfussy atmosphere, maybe catch a game on TV, here's your place.
