Ambiance was nice i had the cod basket the cod was amazing the fries were piping hot coleslaw good but I can't say enough about the cod it was good good good. The bar had open space, around 5 on a Thursday. We started with coconut shrimp that were on special. Perfectly cooked, but missing the coconut cream sauce normally served with such a dish. I had Summer Shandy on draft, very good, ice cold. Then I had a cheeseburger and fries. My chunk of romaine on it was nasty and I removed it. My friend had an Italian sub which she's gotten before and said it tasted "off". We ate and were cashed out before we could order another beer. So we left. We would have drank more, but felt dismissed. read more

I do not recommend this place to anyone. I walked in with my kids two hours before closing to get food. There were three people sitting at the bar, music playing, TVs on -- clearly not closed. The second we opened the door, everyone whipped their heads around and we were immediately told they were "closed." No greeting, no explanation, just attitude. This isn't even my first bad experience here. The bartenders/waitstaff are consistently unprofessional and rude, like customers are an inconvenience instead of the reason they're open. The place itself is dark, dirty, and sketchy. Almost every window is blocked off, making it feel like they're hiding something rather than running a restaurant. It's not "cozy" -- it's grimy. And the food? I'd rather eat a frozen pizza at home than the so-called pizza they hype up here. Absolute trash. Save your time, money, and patience. Go somewhere else. This is our favorite place to go when we come up to Gladwin! Not only is the service AMAZING but the food is great! We usually like to sit outside to get a view of the river and there wasn't a server outside the day we came (we had no problem ordering inside) but then a server decided she would go out of her way/section to serve us (Thank you Becca)! Get out of here with those spicy cheese balls I crave them even when I'm not up north. You can't go wrong with a burger either, always cooked to perfection!! There pizza is filled with toppings and always has a crispy bottom so good! Would highly recommend coming here if you are in the area! Stumbled upon this on our way back from up North. Waitress was very nice and recommended the pizza as that is what they are noted for. Pizza was really delicious but the only thing we wished we would have done was not listen when it came to the cheese as we prefer more cheese then what came on it. This used to be the old Wooden Shoe Bar. Hadn't been in the place in over 35 years. For appetizers we had the spicy cheese balls and wings. I ordered the Rachel sandwich and my husband had the cheeseburger club. Both served with fries. Very tasty! Food and a couple of cold beers. We didn't leave hungry. read more

The place has huge potential, but the owner has a horrible attitude. He gave my friends attitude stating "they weren't open for another 3 minutes"....yet their door was open. Once I came in, I asked if they had coffee. His response was, "I do not". Then he handed me a menu and what's on it? COFFEE. I was there Saturday for a late lunch. Came in by boat with a group of friends, I had the grilled Italian, delicious, it was on the best bun I've ever tasted. Kate and Ed were so hospitable! Great place to hang out. I'll sure go back next time I'm in the area. read more

The River House is our new favorite place in the area to go and have a cold one and a bite. The owners are very friendly and the wait staff is spot on and wait on you as they should. You are never sitting without a cold drink. The pizza is very good - have to say the best in the area and that is hard to find. The onion rings are to die for! Best I've ever had - made homemade from what I am told. The atmosphere is good - play music of different artists that give it a good vibe. The deck on the river is also nice to sit and look at Smallwood Lake - in time it would be nice if they revamp it a bit. Inside is always clean and nice bar atmosphere. You can even launch your boat there or pull up to the dock and go inside. Were there for nightly entertainment with a DJ and karaoke and that was pretty fun. It really livened it up. Nice to see this in the area. It was much needed! read more
