We've been in Bellingham for about 8 hours and this is our favorite bar so far, and we've been to 5 bars since leaving the airport. Julia is our bartender here and she's amazing, she's kept our drinks full and has been so accommodating with our ridiculous pull tab orders, oh and did I mention we won $100? I went in to the Beaver this Wednesday afternoon. Not only did it take the bartender about 10 minutes to even greet us, but she was rude and pretentious to my friend and me during the entire order. We intended to stay and drink for a few hours, but now I plan on never returning to the bar, even though I live only 6 minutes walking distance from it. A few sips in to our first drink the rude bartender demanded money from us even though I originally wanted to open a tab and said so. We asked if she could ring up a second drink of the same kind for myself before paying, because I at least wanted two drinks for my stay at this bar, and she brought us change. She said it was $8 and brought us only $11 in change (which would be a $9 drink). 20 minutes later we inquired where my second drink was, and she said she never rang us up for it. After another 10 minutes or so of waiting for her to return (keep in mind all the other 6 people on the opposite end of the bar have been stocked on their drinks since we have entered the place 30 minutes ago) the bartender finally asks me if I would like another drink. When we mentioned we ordered the other drink, she said she never charged us for it and we would have to pay. We left the place and went to Aslan Brewery, where the service was much better! I definitely recommend going to the later if you want to enjoy your day out in Bellingham. read more

Oh dear. I love myself a good dive bar, but places like this give dive bars a bad name. The vibe was just weird. They were playing some biggie, which I happen to love. But the guy sitting next to us wouldn't stop rapping almost every line. Surly bartender seemed annoyed that I asked for water. I don't think I would dare eat here. The place seemed very dirty. I went to use the restroom and as soon as I got near it stunk of urine. Ew. To be fair I think it was coming from the men's room, but still. I won't be returning. Ever. read more

Ok, the Beav is a dive with cheap beer and drinks, fried food and not much else (pool tables here though!) This is a 4 star establishment for exceeding expectations on most levels. Service is great and the vibe is fun and relaxed. Just a nice place to have a drink with the friendly drinking locals! read more

Tried to go in on a Saturday night after work. They made my dump out my hydroflask, then they did a bag check and told me I couldn't be in there with legal weed in my backpack. Sealed jars of legal weed. Sucks getting off work and wanting to patronize an establishment but they won't let me have a legal product inside. It wasn't a pipe or a joint even, nothing they could be easily consumed inside. Kind of bizarre policy but this bar doesn't offer anything I'll be missing out on. will be telling others about the experience. read more

I am 70 yrs old, if the jerk bartender wants to card me that's fine. But when he gives me my license back and I ask him what year I was born and he says he doesn't k ow and it's only for show. Then its foolish. I didnt think much of it but bartender seemed to have a bunch of issues with other people who wanted to buy a beer. Most logical answer is the guy is on a ego trip. read more

I sincerely appreciate the 'new' Beaver. (Apparently the 'old' Beaver is now State Street Bar.) Wifi, Fried food, sports on TV, awesome downtown location, pool tables, darts, jukebox, solid bartenders and usually a clientele that is happy to leave you alone or chat about whatever. I've stopped in many times for a beer and wifi, or to catch a game. Bellingham doesn't have many dive bars but I'd say the Beaver qualifies, and i like it a lot. Went here to celebrate my husband's birthday a few days ago. Best dive bar ever, very affordable drinks, and the greasy bar food is great. The hot wings were a big hit with our group. The juke box selection is woeful, but we made up for it with a few rounds of pool. Bartender was nice, didn't charge me for my sodas since I was the designated driver. Note to Disabled: Reasonably accessible, street parking only, and it's a rough area to find decent parking on a weekend. read more

My #1, all-time favorite dive bar. The Beaver Inn has everything you could you want in a dive bar. Low ceilings, brick walls, really cheap beer, darts and a pair of pool tables. Don the Bartender (who can generously be described as "ill-humored") has been there, 86-ing troublemakers, since the dinosaurs roamed the Earth. The only bartender I've ever known who will ban someone "for life"...a fate suffered by more than a few dear friends of mine over the years. No live music...but they have a popcorn machine. This place is great. :) They have good drink specials and if you like beer and free popcorn this is the place for you. They have pool, as well as darts, and there is usually seating at the bar. Really enjoyed going here for a portion of my birthday and have been back since. Not very expensive and the service was pretty good. Does smell like fried food, but if you've been drinking I find you generally don't mind that or you actually like it. read more

The Beaver is great for a tasty, although greasy, bite to eat. Seriously, try their Fried Chicken Dinner (not the strips). It's delicious! They're also the only place in town that has pub pickles. Free popcorn and coffee doesn't hurt either. You can get your sporting fix whilst imbibing via the TVs or by participating in a raucous air-hockey, pool, dart or Big Buck Hunter game. They also have pinball! Office chairs and a padded, upholstered bench make up the seating options, all with delightfully semi-sticky tables. Now located next door to the Horseshoe Cafe on Holly Street, the Beaver is still serving up cold drinks and hot fried food at this new address. When I lived in Bellingham several years ago, the Beaver Inn on State Street was my favorite hangout and I've made a point to stop by when I'm in town ever since. Cheap beer and microbrews on tap, hard liquor, fried food (including their famous pub pickles!), free popcorn, lots of seating, pool, darts... just an all-around great dive bar. Well, the new location has all of that in a brighter, airier space just few blocks from the old place-- they even brought Don the bartender with 'em when they moved! I gotta say, though, that part of the charm of the *old* Beaver was that it was actually old-- the bar had been in operation on State Street for 40 years. This *new* Beaver just doesn't quite have the same atmosphere (or smell) of the old location; I imagine that's something that can only be acquired after decades of deep frying, beer swilling, and tobacco smoking use. Another negative about the new location is that the front door seems to be a gathering place for vagrants who will hit you up for change coming and going-- one youthful 'bum' was holding up a sign just outside the front window that read "I'd rather be doing this than robbing you". On the flip side, at least your clothes don't reek of grease and/or smoke when you leave here. read more

The Beaver is one of the classic Bellingham Bars. Drinks are decent, and decently priced. Pitchers of PBR are "What's Cheap". The staff is usually pleasent, but they would card their own mothers. My favorite features of the Beaver, are the air hockey table and Dart boards. And four months after the smoking ban went into effect, the Beaver still smells like smoke. Although now, the deep fryer smell is beginning to take over. I'm not sure which smell is worse. read more

This is the bar i most frequented in college and still go back to when I go back the Bham to visit. The bartenders get to know you - the beer is cheap and really their fried food is amazing. Bartender Don is the best in town. He has the best sneer, the best stare, the best smirk, and the best pour. He's the major reason I go here. The only place I'll go for my nights out. Get to know the bartenders and they'll take good care of you. Its a total dive: crappy pool tables, busted bathroom doors, stinky carpet, office chairs at the tables - but that's what makes it so great. Can get very crowded Fri and Sat night, but I usually go early anyway. Drink are reasonably priced and food is greasy as it should be. When I'm not drinking because I'm driving they usually give me a soda for free. read more

This little pub has a nice bar and a quiet scene. I go here every so often to escape the young hipster nightlife of the Royal or the Up and Up. Come here for drink specials on Fri and Sat nights or for the chill bartenders and wait staff. Pub fare is good as well. read more

The new Beaver Inn is a bland, character-less shithole. Don't bother. While the old Beav. was a shithole with personality, the new space is awkwardly laid out and lacks the charisma of the grease soaked wood paneled walls. Ohh, the Beav. What can be said about this place other than it's only the best dive bar in Bellingham, and perhaps the world. Many a great night spent wiling away the evening here, and hopefully many more to come, despite the fact that I'm no longer a local Bellinghamster. My fondest memory of the Beaver was in the 90's when I was going to Western. Some friends and I went in for last call. It was packed to the gills like I had never seen it before. We were instantly bombarded with flying popcorn. There was so much popcorn on the floor that you couldn't see the floor. I will be back. read more

This bar has the cheapest drinks I have found. There is always a place to sit, but it never feels empty. They offer free popcorn, which is a cool perk. THe place has a nice buzz of conversation going but you dont have to yell to be heard. The wait staff is usually nice, however they sometimes belittle customers. this is by far my favoritebar in bellingham. read more

I love the vibe at the beav, its really relaxed and its a great place to go if you want to sit down for a drink with your friends. Theres not much space in the entrance to get in, so I think that deters all the desperate bar hopper dancing people from coming in. (thats a good thing). The popcorn is allright (at least its free) and the fried zucchini is yummy! The only complaint I have had in the past is that the girls bathroom has been closed off multiple times, and that hasn't been too fun. read more

This place offers the most fun you can have sitting around a table in Bellingham. You can almost always find a table and everything is cheap. Another plus: they recently removed the Broaster (which was the source of the Beave's famous smell) so soon you may not have to leave your your coat (and other porous valuables) in the car. read more
