While there's been a recent boom in Chinese and Thai herbal washes, the closest 'real' spot used to be in Flushing--until I found Thy Hair Salon. They are a fantastic full-service salon (haircuts, color, makeup, you name it), but they've recently added the traditional Vietnamese hair wash to their menu. It literally felt like I'd been transported back to Vietnam! The staff is incredibly kind and the service is a total 10/10. They use traditional ginseng and herbs for the steaming process, and honestly, the scent is much more pleasant and refreshing than the versions I've tried at other spots. When I arrived…read moreat the salon, they quickly assessed my hair and I explained to them what I wanted, they reassured me they could do it. The lady who did my hair did a TERRIBLE job. It was only when I got home, I noticed how poorly of a job she did. The sew-in technique she used was so bad - she made several knots with the thread randomly along the tracks, she even doubled up some tracks and sewed them down, and the cornrows underneath were whack, there was even some of my own hair sticking out beneath the tracks. It was also braided and sewed in so tightly. I tried to communicate this during the hair appointment, but there seemed to be a language barrier so she didn't understand me fully. All in all, I feel like it was their first time doing something like this, but they just couldn't refuse a buck so they said they could do it. It would have been better if they had admitted that they are not experienced with doing black hair or sew-ins for that matter, because $180 has gone down the drain just like that. I ended up removing the extensions the same night when I got home after I saw how terrible it looked. The removal process was such a pain, not even Youtube videos could help me because of how poor the sew-in/threading technique was. Never again. If I could give 0 stars, I would.

She explained what she was doing before and during the process including what may go wrong consider they dyed hair I had already. She mixed the color to matched my skintone seamlessly. Well I was so happy that I tried her out! My hair is exactly as I wanted. She corrected my color and gave me the highlights I wanted. I will definitely be a regular and come back time and again.
