I'm almost obsessed with Beauty Town located across the street from the Parkchester 6 train stop. I'm not sure if different owners have come and gone, but this beauty supply store has been thriving in this same spot for a long time. Unlike other beauty supply shops where only salon business owners can purchase, you don't have to be a hair salon professional to purchase here. You just need to love beauty products and shopping. The African family running this shop keeps a close eye on who's walking where and what you need by looking at their camera screen. But let's be real though, in a time where there are folks stealing left and right, I like that the business owner is keeping close tabs period. Since the weather has been hot and knew I was going to Sanibel to beach swim quite a lot, I purchased a deep leave-in conditioner to hydrate my hair afterwards as well grab a pomade to keep my edges snatched. Service was friendly even from the owner's daughter(?) who suggested I try a certain brand in detail- plus prices are reasonable. read more

Beauty Supply store with good items. Staff was friendly for the most part, except (and this may seem petty but I don't care), there was one particular employee - either an indian or hispanic overweight man with a hat on standing near the line where my mother and I were at. He kept rubbing his nose up at me and giving me a weird look everytime I looked forward, which made me uncomfortable. And I didn't do anything to warrant that type of behavior from him. Here's the thing, if a customer is buying from a store that you work at, it's your job to be professional and not make your customers feel bad. I don't know if this man was racist or not, or if he was just a miserable person in general, but that was a major turnoff and made me not want to go back or recommend to others. Learn to treat customers well and leave your misery (or racism) at the door. read more

Best hair store in the Bronx! I would usually have to go to 125th street for the latest styles. Now I don't have to! Freddy (my favorite wig stylist!) is so amazing, I can't imagine life without him! This store upstairs has a good variety of hair products, but the prices are a little inflated. I shop in several different beauty stores and notice the few extra dollars on this store's prices. They usually offer upstairs to help you find anything you're looking for. They have a salon section, which I have used a few times years ago, but they don't seem to have strong stylists there. They carry a pretty decent selection of hair for a neighborhood store. My biggest issue is the wig section downstairs. Even though they carry some decent budget wigs, they don't keep a good variety in stock of colors of each wig. They mainly carry the same dark colors (a variation of off black, dark brown). There are many styles displayed but many of the looked like they have been dragged through a dog fight. They don't look combed or presented to be appealing. The guy who is usually working down there isn't the most engaging, and I'm not sure how an employee or manager can sit amidst their own products /sale items without trying to make sure the presentation is at least decent. I have been going here for years and have observed the matted, disheveled, lopsided wigs on countless visits. It's distracting and offputting. I have bought wigs when Im in a bind and can overlook the lacking professionalism. On my visit yesterday I spent more time adjusting wigs on the manekins just to get a fair look (like I worked there) than I did really appreciating the selection. I asked to see a wig but they only had it in 1 color so I left empty-handed. I have heard the guy working the counter downstairs in conversation with other customers a few times about ordering wigs requested in an out of stock color, but maybe that's reserved for his favorite customers. There is also a stying area downstairs, but it rarely appears in use. Overall, the store meets basic needs, has a good set-up, but subpar execution of its function. Its best because of it's convenient location snd product variety. Thank goodness another beauty store opened up a few blocks away. Otherwise I'll keep dipping into Harlem for better prices, variety, and service. read more

I will not be affording my business to this beauty supply again.. I was humiliated by the owner and manager of this location when collecting items to purchase. I was followed, confronted and falsely accused of shoplifting upon putting things down to meet someone outside who didn't know the area.. They never even so much as apologized to me after embarrassing me before everyone and quite frankly hurting my feelings. I was honestly startled as i never expected this and was preparing to spend at least $500 in several packs of hair, tools and products.. read more

Been coming here for years. Literally one of those places where I come so often.. the staff greets me like an old family member. They offer a wide selection of products, and the mgr has offered to order something specific I like if they ran out. As a curly naturalista.. all my staples and must haves are here. Prices could be a dollar or two cheaper .. but hey, can't win them all. Overall.. love my store! read more
