Today we visited at noon, two hours before closing (which is 2pm on a Saturday). Nobody was present in what we assume was the reception area and nobody greeted us, even when the door chimed, so we walked into the back (the business is out of an older house,) and found two ladies with clients receiving manicures, who immediately greeted us with cold, annoyed stares, not saying a word. My wife immediately apologized, feeling like she wasn't welcome because of the awkward and intense glare from the employees. She explained that this was our first visit, and asked if clients were seen by appointment only. One lady hesitantly responded in a deadpan voice that they take walk-ins sometimes. When my wife asked if she could get a manicure, the ladies looked at each other simultaneously and said, "No, don't have time," then continued their work, pretending not to notice us still standing there like idiots. Nobody offered to schedule a future appointment or even offered an apology. It's hard to put into words the overwhelming feeling of snotty judgement we both received. We walked ourselves out of the dark residence, feeling icky. My wife and I enjoy bicycling around our little town, especially lately in the springtime, and were dressed in active attire when we visited. Based on the "greeting" we'd received, we questioned whether we were being judged based on our appearance.
