She travels back and forth between home (MN), California, and New York just to do hair. It's safe to say she's got loyal clients all over the country! She's a master colorist and if you look at her portfolio the proof is in the pudding. Mmm....pudding. I figured after 4 years it was worth updating my review after making the big leap from natural to red (again)! I still love Samantha as much as I did the first day I came in as a new client. She always makes you feel right at home and is quick to give you advice on the look you're going for. 98% of the time I walk out of there feeling amazing and the very few times I haven't been so sure she was quick to make it right, with a smile on her face. For instance, this time, the first two blow dries after my color the red was looking a lot darker than planned (my hair REALLY pulls red, this is no fault to her skill). Despite being one of her last clients of the day (and the fact that she had a date to go on that evening) she didn't hesitate to make sure I absolutely loved what I was walking out of there with, date be damned, and we got it lightened up to the perfect shade. My only criticism, if any, is that she often overbooks herself and can be working on as many as 3 clients at the same time. Despite this, her time management is great and she gets it all done. But, Sam, girl, you gotta give yourself a breather so you can take care of yourself! Order the Jimmy Johns, woman! Don't hesitate booking with Sam but just know she's a busy lady and your experience may be a hair different (no pun intended!) from being in someone else's chair. Just go with the flow, be clear with what you want, let her know if something isn't quite as you wish (if applicable), and sit back and relax! Well.. you may not relax too much because Sam has always got some sort of amazing or gut busting story in her pocket.

I have to spend $400 to fix this black band she did on my roots. I'm not posting this to bash Samantha at all, I just wanted to share my experience. Note: As I said Samantha offered to fix my hair but for obvious reasons I didn't want her touching my hair again. I had to sit in a salon for over 4 hours removing the horrible color she put on my roots that were pretty damn close to black. I only asked for a refund two days after I got my hair done because the stylist fixing my hair said it was one of the worst color corrections she's had to do and told me I should get my money back! I had orange stripes all through out my head. The girl who fixed it, did AMAZING. If you're looking for balayage I definitely recommend the Beauty Room in Minneapolis! They know what they're doing!

I've been coming to Hair-O-Smith regularly since April 2018, when I decided to do my side shave and having already had my first positive experience the previous July when I did a simple trim and dye to hide those pesky grays for a wedding I was in. Alison has been my gal and she's awesome. We usually just do a monthly touch up on my side shave (husband does one in between cause my hair grows so fast and I can't afford going there THAT many times lol), but I've been branching out more recently and we've started to do little designs in the shave and I recently added some red to the front for funsies. I just shoot her a text a few days before I'm ready to come in and she has no trouble fitting me in. The NE location is convenient as well because I can just pop over real easily during lunch or after work. I never thought I'd be the girl who went to the salon, but for this one at least I'm glad to have found a chill and laid back place! PS - there is a (clearly marked) parking lot attached so that you don't have to park in the street, although there is plenty of street parking all the times I've gone as well.

I hate parking in uptown but would visit again since they're one of only a few green salons in the Cities.

In the North oaks neighborhood just across the way from Kowolski's market is a little strip mall just loaded with tons of really awesome little shops. Parking was easy enough as I was able to locate a spot in the ample parking lot, and didn't have far to walk into the salon. I went on a super busy Saturday right before the Christmas holiday, and even with the hustle and bustle, I was greeted warmly and was offered a cup of coffee/tea. While I waited for my stylist, Sarah, I checked out the super huge selection of Aveda and Amika products as well as some of the boutique-ish kind of products like hats, scarves, wallets and I think I spotted jewelry and soap. Nice selection of stuff, but I didn't have all that much time to browse as my stylist found me almost right away. Sarah is FANTASTIC! - I went in for a color and a trim. She helped me determine the best color for me with the ideas that I had. The longest part of any color job is the foiling and while she worked, Sarah explained some of the other hair coloring services offered and educated me on what she offers and what the salon sells. Service took a little longer than expected, but my hair wasn't taking the color mix as well as we though, and Sarah made sure that I was happy with the color and the cut before I left. Sarah was a fantastic stylist, and I am a fan! I walked out paying more than I expected, but I feel it was worth it. Totally recommend this place for the services and the stylists. After some research, I found Tiffany Twist while searching the broad MN metro area. Her website and background impressed me, so I gave her a call. She responded quickly, I sent some photos, then explained I'm driving two hours for this and am hoping to get it done in one visit. Not a problem. I went to my appointment the next day. On arrival, it was a pleasant surprise to see she does this out of her apartment (a nice one) and has everything on site. I was absolutely dreading a 5+ hour appointment in a typical salon setting lol. This was so much better, being in a home type of setting, very comfortable, and to top it off kitties!!! We talked about what I wanted done, she color matched and prepped stuff, and I watched her tutorial videos until she was ready. The best part, I got to stream movies and shows on her tv throughout the entire appointment. Epic. Fast forward 5ish hours, breaks as needed. I'm mind blown. I was absolutely stunned at the results! I had very damaged hair, she fixed it right up, and it looked all natural. She cut/styled at the end too. Idk how she does it, but I cannot say enough good things. I seriously could not have had a better experience. I will go out of my way, again, to go back to her for adjustments and whatnot in the future. These are super easy to take care of, and they actually made my hair grow out with a minimal amount of damage. My real hair has never been better. I intend to keep using west coast hair for all of my extension needs. If youre thinking about extensions, this is the way to go!!! And as an added bonus, the staff is amazing!
