Definitely recommend upfront if you are sweetness level sensitive, this place probably runs 25-50% over on sweetness! That is, if your usual is 75% sweetness at somewhere like Kung Fu tea, I would go 50% here. Went with a friend who went 50% on her drink and wished she'd gone 25%! It's definitely a science! I ordered the Taro Milk Tea with almond milk and pudding. Have to say I was a little taken aback that they only have ONE SIZE, and boy it was a big drink! My drink was like $7 even with the &1 Yelp check-in. Dang! I got the 75% and it was sweeeeet. Like not even sure it wasn't 100%. I could have done with the 50%. In terms of flavor, I definitely felt the taro here tasted more pungent and "real" unlike the powder that some other bubble tea places may have. I did really like their pudding. The texture was more firm which I liked and also had sweet flavor on its own. Overall, wish they had size options but liked the taste and recommend the taro! read more

Expected better bubble tea from a shop located near Washington D.C. Beautea is exceedingly hard to find because the door is tucked away from the rest of the bustling area it's in. Not sure if COVID guidelines are being followed either because I saw a group being allowed to sit inside the small space the store has to offer. I bought an avocado smoothie and a black milk tea with pearls. The amount of tapioca is scanty and pathetic when you pay a dollar for them. The black milk tea tasted watered down. The avocado smoothie was even more disappointing. It tasted like bringing up a can of air freshener and licking the opening that the liquid comes out of. Beautea needs to at least use an avocado syrup that actually tastes like avocado, or use actual avocados like other bubble tea stores. Parking sucks around here. You'll probably end up parking in some shady alley, or far away from Beautea. The suburbs around Washington D.C. like Fairfax have better bubble tea stores compared to D.C. proper if Beautea is truly one of the best Washington D.C. has to offer. read more

I love boba and I think I found the best boba I've had yet here! The best one is their brown sugar boba, which is soaked in brown sugar. It tastes vanilla-ey sweet and is so smooth! I got the Brown Sugar Milk Tea with boba, my husband got the Matcha Milk Tea with boba, and we shared a popcorn chicken. It gave me nostalgic memories of my high school days. I got my Brown Sugar Milk Tea with 75% sweetened and boba and it was so perfect. I literally cannot imagine it being any better because the milk tea was perfect and the boba consistency was not too soft and perfectly chewy. I'm not one to actually love matcha milk tea, but I will say that BeauTea has the best matcha milk tea I have ever had. My husband's drink was so good and my only regret is not getting another one for the road. The popcorn chicken was also so good, it definitely hit the spot and would recommend it to anyone craving popcorn chicken. The customer service was also top notch! I was waiting outside with my pup and the young lady working the counter came outside to hand me m6 drinks and my chicken! Overall, my experience at BeauTea was a positive one. I like that it was mostly traditional but a twist with a small spicy yet sweet kick and you could tell they marinated the octopus so there were multiple layers of flavor. Full disclosure: I'm writing this review about a month after I came in. I'm not sure if I came on an off day or something. I was so excited to try Beautea when I first heard about it. Boba in Georgetown, walking distance from my apartment, with stellar reviews? Sign me up. I really wanted to like this place, but I honestly can't say I enjoyed it. I will say that the service was brilliant. The cashier knew the drinks well, and when I said I like mango drinks, she told me it was one of her favorites. Drinks were prepared really quickly. No complaints whatsoever there. The drink: I ordered a fresh mango tea, with 50% sugar and ice and a brown sugar boba topping. First off, it's a bit expensive compared to most boba places in the DMV -- $5.50 for the drink itself, then $1 for the brown sugar boba, plus tax and tip means you'll be paying about $8 for a drink. Even for what's considered a large at most boba shops, that's pretty pricey. I had pretty high expectations for this drink at that price point, but I have to be honest, it fell short in almost every way. It's not that the tea was too bitter or too sweet -- in fact, I felt like it kinda lacked taste in general. It was watery. I'm not sure I could taste any mango at all in my tea. I got 50% sugar because mango flavoring is already quite sweet as it is, and at any other boba shop, 50% sugar in my drink would be the perfect sweetness for me. But this was not sweet at all -- and this would be a little bit forgiven if it tasted like tea, but it really didn't. I wasn't really sure what the point of the tea itself was other than to be a liquid delivery mechanism for the boba. Speaking of the boba -- I wasn't impressed. It was a bit too soft and not very firm at all -- it was really chewy, and not in an enjoyable way. Every review of the brown sugar boba says that it's perfectly sweet and smooth, but I'm sorry, I just don't agree. I totally accept that I might have come on an off day, but I'd be lying if I said I enjoyed it in my drink. It could be really good, but it wasn't when I tried it. Look, all the other reviews are stellar, so I'm chalking this up to a bad day and maybe just some bad luck. I do want to come back and try some of the alcoholic drinks at some point. Maybe I got the wrong drink (although mango teas are my favorite + I feel like a shop shouldn't offer a certain drink if they can't do it well). But after the utter disappointment I faced in my drink, I don't have plans to return for the time being. The drink was really expensive for what it was, and I didn't find it very good. The best thing I can say for Beautea is that the service was great. I really, really hope this is just me who feels this way, because you guys have a great location and could be a major player in the DMV boba game if things were different. read more
