Last Saturday, my wife and I decided to take her cousin (Pierre) for a memorable brunch experience in the Boogie Down. Her cousin is from Miami and works with a few recording artists in the Reggaeton and Christian Hip Hop space. So I thought, what better place to visit than the birthplace of Hip Hop itself...the South Bronx! I heard about Beatstro on Instagram and TikTok so it was already on my Yelp 'To-Do' List. *** Fellow Hip Hop Homies: Strongly Suggest Reservations for Brunch *** AMBIANCE: Just a few steps in, I felt like I entered a time capsule with original boombox radios, vinyl records, posters, and keyboards covering the perimeter of the lobby area. This venue definitely has an alter-ego with an 80s Hip Hop shop in the front and a unique, chic eatery in the back. Not surprising, it made total sense when Beatstro Business Partner, Carlos, gave us a little history lesson on its beginnings as a 'speakeasy'. If you don't know, now you know! The creative process for the interior design was really on point. The bar used art frames to display their bottles, the walls were adorned with stunning photography of pioneers like Kool Herc, Doug E. Fresh and Slick Rick along with original artwork of B-Boys, DJs, and other iconic elements of Hip Hop Culture. I love the use of the chandeliers, I felt that they really brought a flair of elegance to the South Bronx venue. Nice touch! SERVICE: Shout out to our server, Devin. He is a stellar example of everything that's right with the hospitality space. Devin is a true professional, a 'Beatstro' brand ambassador, and definitely among the reasons I plan to continue our patronage. Very impressed with him! Again, thank you Carlos (Co-owner) for taking the time to check-in and engage with us for a bit. It was great to hear a few stories about the contributions from local businesses like the vintage photographs and the burgundy leather furniture that really complements the overall look. MEAL: I definitely encourage you to partake in the $24 per person (add-on) unlimited sangria & mimosas for 90 minutes. Both were delicious but I preferred the Mimosa, especially since you can actually taste the champagne. We ordered the following menu items (see photos): - Josefina Croquettes - Deviled Eggs* - Locrio* - Steak and Eggs* - Cheddar Grits* - Bacon - Carrot Cake - Cheesecake * = Slammin' MUSIC: Jay-Z, Tribe, Wu-Tang, Mary J and the list goes on. It was a journey through my childhood and yound adult years. It also reaffirmed that our generation reigns supreme when it comes to profound lyrics and musical genius. I believe that Beatstro has set a new standard for thematic experiences. It has captured the authenticity of Hip Hop and celebrates its intergenerational success and global influence. As a Bronx resident and Brooklyn native, I feel a tremendous sense of pride and connection to this spot. Wishing continued success! RECOMMENDATION: Although it may seem old school, I still prefer a paper bill/receipt. Each server carries a mobile device that's connected to the POS system. When the bill was presented to me, I literally saw the grand total and inserted my card. I'm Giving it a low score because I feel the service was terrible and the food was mediocre the waitress was not very attentive she barely came by to check on us and how we were doing. we decided to come here for saturday brunch before heading to nybg! i would def recommend doing reservations. we were the first ones there since we arrived as soon as they opened it. but it def filled up pretty fast. the atmosphere is def nice. they played hiphop music. it was def happening in there. they have bottomless mimosas and sangrias for $19.95 per person for 90mins. they are def strict with the time. they let you know 10mins before that your time is up. but i really like the deal. you can def get drunk right away if not careful ;) i also really like that they give you a mimosa carafe then you can switch to sangria next! as for the food, i thought it was only ok. but their cheesy mac was sooooo good. that was probably our fav! shrimp n gits was ok. i got the steak and eggs, nothing too exciting. the steak was a bit bland. we also tried the chicken and waffle. it was pretty good. i regret not trying the banana split pudding. id def come back here, but would def try out other dishes. read more

Had a great time celebrating my best friends birthday. We were a group of 9 and were comfortably seated in the back area. Due to the size of our party, we were given a prefix menu. The table was given kale salad, mac and cheese, and deviled eggs to share family style. There was more than enough to share and still food left over. I was not a fan of the deviled eggs. I chose the shrimp fried rice as my entree which was good. Overall I would give it a 4/5. The table also appeared to enjoy the food. As for the drinks, the sangria is bomb! From BK to BX... Super dope vibe for brunch ... great for groups, family and friends... I would say this is more of an adult spot to go to bc the music is played extremely loud. But I did take my 3 year old and we had a blast. Well my 3 year old is used to this lol. Everything was delish. Try the Rum Cake French toast... I've always walked past this place and it's always crowded. I've always thought this meant it was a good place and that they might be doing something right. So guess what I did ? Checked them out on Yelp! The reviews didn't really do much for me. So when my best friend decided that this should be our next place to check out I was a bit hesitant but I figured why not try it out. You can book a reservation online but for some reason you can only do it for 3 people. I think this is something they should work on since there are so many couples trying to go out. Anyway we used a loophole and booked the restaurant. Please be alerted that if you do a no show or cancel same day you will be charged a $25 fee. This is also something that needs to be looked into as people have family emergencies. Let's get on to the real stuff now. There's plenty of outdoor seating. A waiting area that is plastered with old hip hop posters and boomboxes and music to get you in the mood. Inside is quite small but still a vibe. The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is because the music was blaring so loud, you could barely hear yourself. I love that there is an open kitchen view so you can see your food getting prepared. I had the steak and eggs with home fries. The steak came cut for me which was a plus and the eggs were nice and fluffy I enjoyed it. The Mac and cheese was also tasty especially with the garlic crust. I also had a note of my friends chicken and waffles and it was well seasoned. I felt happy and full by the end of the meal. The chicken and waffles had a very good flavor but the only issue I had was having the fruit placed directly on top of the chicken. I would say 3.5/3.75 stars. This is just overall because my experience was super nice, but moderate. AMBIANCE: Superfun, lounge-chic, hip-hop esque vibes. Atmosphere: Multiple crystal chandeliers, wall art and hip hop/pop/reagaeton music really set the stage to have a good time...hence 'BEAT'stro ! Food: My friends ordered French Toast, Chicken and Waffles and I had the Steak and Eggs (sunny-side up) with breakfast potatoes. All yummy and well-seasoned - this is HUGE because you may get a away with many things but a poorly-seasoned steak will tell on you every time! Drinks: We took our server's advice and opted for the "bottomless" mimosa/sangria for our 1.5 hour stay - They were also tasty but the downside is that they are very strict with time you have at your table (not just with the timing bottomless drinks). 1.5 Hour Time-Limit: Once you appear to not order anything else from the menu and the time approaches that 1.5hr mark, they VERY POLITELY and with a smile ask you and your party to move to the bar. The vibes at this place was cool. They blast hip hop classics and have a new modern interior. There was also a decent sized outdoor seating area. They used thighs ( removed bones) for their Chicken & Waffles dish which was a pleasant surprise. It was a solid dish that I'd order again, just nix the cheap syrup. The "creole" shrimp gave NOTHING creole. It was barely seasoned with salt. At the most, It was your basic fried coconut shrimp. Good, but definitely not what I expected based on the description. The horseradish ketchup served with the shrimp threw me for a loop but it turned out to be the best thing I tasted. We managed to get one round of happy hour drinks in time. They were as expected, tasty just "weak sauce." I'd say you need at least 3 to feel a slight buzz ( I don't drink often) And good luck finding your waiter to order it ! Although our server was very polite and friendly, he only visited us three times for the night. Once when he sat us , another time to take our order and another when he brought the food out. All other times we had to physically get up and find him ( the restaurant was hardly busy ) He forgot to bring us our drinks, forgot to bring us water and even forgot to bring us the bill. We sat patiently for 30+ minutes before we received anything we ordered to eat. We also sat another idle 20 minutes after asking for the bill, until we decided to just go find him. My friends and I came here for dinner Friday night. We saw this place on IG, and made reservations a few days before coming. We were seated right away and gave our drink orders. The place isn't too big, so I would def recommend making a res, especially for a group. They had a DJ and the place was giving club vibes. They played classic R&B, Hip Hop, and Dancehall. Although, it was somewhat difficult to carry on a conversation. We started out with margaritas and their house sangria. All of which were refreshing & strong. This place was super cute... brunch was a whole vibe when at 1:30pm on Sunday and the DJ was on point... I would go just for the music and drinks at the bar if your riding solo and are not hungry, the service was good fast... and they did not miss a beat they provided our table with pitchers or sangria and mimosa so our cups were never empty.. the apps were good big portions I really enjoyed the Mac and cheese the deviled eggs had a bit to much mustard for my taste but I still enjoyed it.. my entrée was the steak and eggs .. the steak was good the chimichurri was lacking salt or vinegar.. the potatoes weren't bad maybe could have used more seasoning .. What a lovely find! Happen upon this place while visiting The Lit Bar bookstore. It is a hip hop speakeasy. When you enter what appears to be a vinyl storefront you are pleasantly greeted by a hostess and she takes you through lovely velvet curtains into a beautiful restaurant that has a stunning decor and delicious menu. "Are they banking on you spending your money once or you coming back?" That question was asked during dinner because clearly the establishment isn't interested in having regulars. Here is why: - Service was horrendous. It is almost like the people that owned it decided to round up all of the Dominican men in the neighborhood with the best arched eyebrows to be servers, but the catch is... none of them have any customer service experience. - We ask about the wine as there is only cocktails on the menu. He then is like, We have red and white wine and here is the pièce de résistance, the server says "my sincere apologies but we don't serve moscato." LMAO! Mind you, we were ordering wine to pair with our food. We were not ordering dessert so why he decided to bring up moscato was confusing. Hilarious but confusing. - Someone at the table ordered the chicken that came with with blue cheese slaw and he was excited. I wanted to order an extra side of it so I ask the server what h thought of then slaw, he said "oh hell no, it is nasty. I wouldn't order it if I were you." Since someone at the table already ordered it, you would think he would have said something like "it is great if you love blue cheese." When it came to the table, I tried some and it was GOOD! I was mad that I didn't order a side of it. - I wanted the jerk ribs. The menu clearly states that the ribs comes with your "choice of sauce." I tell the server that I would want a side of hot papaya mustard on the side. He tells me that the jerk ribs already is slathered in sauce so my choice of sauce will be an extra $3. I point to the menu where it clearly states that I get a choice of sauce. He then repeats that the restaurant already chose the sauce for me so the menu is a mistake. I tell him that I want the sauce anyway and we will debate when the bill comes. He then comes back 5 minutes later to tell me that he made a mistake and I get to choose. NO SH*T! - One of the ppl I came with ordered a Jameson and ginger. It tasted like ginger ale sugar water. When we brought it to the attention of the server, the server says, "oh that's wack, do you just want a ginger ale?" HOW DOES THIS RECTIFY ANYTHING? - When we are leaving, I wait for my party in the front room as it is down pouring and we see 2 people walk in and the following dialogue ensues: - Beatstro front desk: I LOVE YA HAIR, GIRL! My cuz and I went here for brunch and had an amazing time. Our waiter Naomi was such a sweetheart, continually checking in on us & making sure our glasses remained full. This place is my new obsession. Took my wife out for date night and as we were walking down the street, I peeped in the doorway of this restaurant and was completely blown away. It was gorgeous inside! There was a live dj playing the best songs. The kitchen was right in front with glass walls so you can see every meal being prepared. The decor and the atmosphere were fun and exciting. The best part of our visit were by far the staff. The staff was so sweet and accommodating and the bartenders were some of the best and friendliest I have ever met. We even had the pleasure of meeting the manager Eddie who was wonderful and tied to whole amazing experience together. I'm not gonna lie, although I've been to BEATSTRO numerous times before I was hesitant after seeing so many mediocre Yelp reviews during and post-COVID. Thrilled to say that our 12pm brunch thoroughly exceeded our expectations! From the food, to the service, to the music, it was truly a great time from start to finish. For + $19.95 you can add bottomless sangria or mimosas to your meal (and, honestly, why wouldn't you?) to have a Boozy Brunch. We left tipsy and that is also ALWAYS a great sign. *insert Grinch smile* We were celebrating my bestie's 6 year anniversary and also asked the DJ for a shoutout which he obliged. I'm going in deep y'all- because there's some serious business going down here. This is flair at its finest......even in The South, South Bronx! Beatstro has all the hallmarks of an upscale and ultra modern eatery: dark grey walls, plush chairs, gold accents and with no shortage of funk! Booking my reservation was easy through Yelp: got a reminder text afterwards then another to confirm and boom- in! So far, Beatstro seems as the most pitch-perfect of them all in this area. Well...they are in fact the newcomers in the scene right now. A stylish navy velvet curtain, separates a "Record Shop" waiting area from Beatstro's core. Seating corner (if you will), is decked out with these Victorianesque, Velvet sofas and chairs with a powerful Bar Area. You hit the open kitchen area- right at the midway point with an overhead mural of tagged trains from back in the day and a couple of 2-seater tables. Followed the Hostess even further towards our 'Reserved' table with a Wall speaker backdrop adding to the entire Hip Hop vibe. Place was pumping and as we say in The Bronx- the music was jamming! Dark grey walls continue and huge mirrors on opposite sides, add another dose of style. Beatstro taps into a diverse and clean menu- honestly, I was really impressed with a lot of their items. Starts off with 'Snacks' (if I remember correctly), Small Plates, Entrees and Sides. Really like how it has a bit of everything- even with Vegetarian and Vegan options. 'Plátanitos' starter was good with an awesome sprinkle of Ghost Pepper Salt. According to my husband, his 'Josefina spit roasted pork & cheese fritters' with sour orange dipping sauce- missed a note. 'Blackout' and 'Gin & Juice' (with Mango Nectar) Cocktails were prepared very well and did a good job on me. 'Lowcountry Shrimp & Grits' Entree, called for pork belly and Waiter #1, assured me the chef can make my dish without it...perfect! My husband decided to cut out carbs- so ditched the Chicken and Waffles- for the '3-Piece Viera's Fried Chicken with slaw. Waiter #2 brings my dish with pieces of pork belly (no...I couldn't fish those out) that I didn't want initially. Hubby's eating and I'm waiting for either #1 or #2. Mentioned to #2 that I asked for no pork- at all. Plate was removed, more cocktails to follow and hubby is halfway done. #1 (original server)- came over, apologized for the error and put the order in again without pork. Thank you very much! After that, my dish was money! Consensus was, hubby wanted to like his fried chicken- but it was overcooked and batter was too saturated in oil. Don't judge a book by its cover. Beatstro is letting out a fresh and fashion-forward dining scene in this section of The BX. What's more, people in the area should have something like this...other than a Cuchifrito! BX can have it all and even dine in style. This is a straight up 4+1/2- and I totally get it: Beatstro literally just stomped their way here, place is screaming with style and my hope for this place is that the food continues to get better to complement the atmosphere of the restaurant. I love this place. I love loud hip hop music. The food is tasty, I don't love there is no white meat option for the fried chicken. But I am not sure the "Bottomless" is worth it my waiter (3/27/22 6pm in the back) was not very attentive. Continually had to waiver her over, I even felt like she avoided eye contact. We had to get the table next to us to grab the attention once. 3 Rum punches at $25, maybe we should of opted for the ala carte drinks. One of three wasn't even served by our waitress! I even asked for a pitcher was denied because of the table size. I only thought it was fair because 90 min bottomless, but you'll see your waitress sparingly is overstatement. read more

Supe cool decor and design. Everything is 80's, 90's and early aughts hip-hop themed (NY based) for the most part. The layout of the restaurant is nice; there's the now-obligatory boxed-in and well maintained street dining, inside the restaurant there is a small lounge/seating area before the bar, long bar, high table seating across from a glassed in kitchen and more restaurant style seating in the back (flanked by gold speakers up to the ceiling). It's a visual feast. My friend and I went for brunch on one lazy Sunday. We made early reservations a few weeks prior. So it was not crowded. The food was ok. Nothing really stood out. But what was blaring and hard to overlook was the music. It was LOUD. The music was cool to hear but it was impossible to speak with my friend, talk to the waitress or fully enjoy myself. If you want food and music and a fun looking atmosphere, definitely go here. If you are expecting to hear your dining counterpart or be heard, pick somewhere else. read more

Haven't been here in about 3 years. Before I came for brunch on a Sunday. It was packed, and loud. This time around it was much enjoyable to be able to sit, and here the person your talking to. The staff was both friendly, and attentive. She actually gave us to great suggestions on the menu to choose from. I enjoyed the Pernil especially. It was so nice, and tendar. The drinks are always on point. They have happy hour until 8 P.M. Be advised, parking is horrible. You will have to drive around for a while until you find some. read more

I actually love this spot. I came across this place after trying to figure out where to take my mom for Mother's Day last month. My sis and I saw this place and menu and decided to come here. Making reservations was super easy and the staff was very welcoming and friendly. We were asked if we wanted to be seated outside, but due to our allergies, we opted for indoor seating. You do get temperature check and put your info in a log book so it's def covid friendly. We got seated in the back and the place was not really packed for the time and day which was a major plus for us. The music was great as it was old school hip hop. My sis and mom ordered the sangrias and I ordered the Virgo (gotta rep my sign lol). I'm not a huge henny fan unless it is white, but let me tell you that drink was amazing! I had 2 and had the best sleep ever, but I digress. For the appetizers, we had the wings, chicharron(sorry for my spelling) and maduro (I think?!) and they were all delicious and filling. For entree, I had the chicken and waffle with the strawberries which was so fresh and delicious. I forgot what I had for dessert but will post my pics. So I booked this spot for me and my sister to try. We made reservations but got there a little late so we had to wait a hr to be seated. They have a great menu but on Sundays you can only order from the brunch menu. We had the "finding Nemo" frozen drink a little watered down but pretty good. My sister ordered the skirt steak with eggs and home fries. The steak was done perfectly, omg lol. I ordered the chicken and waffles which may sound cliché which I can assure you WAS NOT. The chicken was dark meat, which I'm not fond of but they deboned it (which was the best thing ever) and it was fried perfectly and so flavorful. We also shared the Mac and cheese which was also really good. Our waiter was great. It was her first day but she was a natural. I wish I could remember her name. The only down side was that the music was really loud but lowered once everything slowed down. Other that it was a great experience! read more

Service was good, but the food could've been better. I orders the ribs with Mac & cheese and mashed potatoes. Unfortunately the ribs were below room temperature, almost cold. They sort of had a reheated flavor to them as well. The mashed potatoes has a flavor of lemon which was a pleasure surprise. read more

This by far was the best rum cake -french toast I ever had. It was fluffy, tasty and sweet. My mom and aunt enjoyed their shrimp & grits. I'm not sure what they put in their sangria, but those drinks had me drunk dunk. The place had a nice atmosphere , it contained nice art work , hip hop music all night, and lastly the waiter was highly attentive.
