Always a great time at Beary the Hatchet! We have been here multiple times with our toddler, as well as with our families when they are visiting from out of town. They have an arcade in the back and they also have a kid-friendly velcro axe throwing set that my son (he's a toddler) has loved playing with. The staff are always welcoming and very friendly. They are also very knowledgeable, helpful, and informative when it comes to throwing the axes/knives/etc safely and properly. We have also loved the variety of drink options that they have available and will continue to support this local business.

What an Axe-cellent idea for a fun time!!! Axe throwing, arcade games, pool, foosball and fun! Throw an axe, a knife, some ninja stars, or a shovel...it's all a great time to be had by all. There are locally brewed adult beverages available and drinks for the kids too. From novice to highly experience, it's a good time to have fun for a emails, date night or come down to meet new people.

This is by far my favorite business in New Bern. Seriously! Who doesn't wanna throw an axe? Who doesn't love a beer... while throwing an axe... I thought I was gonna be as bad at this as mini golf and love it just as much. But it's easier than mini golf, darts and bowling and it's a lot more fun. The staff is attentive and friendly. Perfect for a date or a friend date, not perfect for kids so leave those cuties at home. Book an hour appointment on their website, you'll be axeited that you did.

This establishment smells fantastic! That's what you first notice as you walk in, then the rustic simplicity of the lane set-up and and stumps that hold 4 axes at each lane. Once the staff makes their intros and begins to explain how/what goes on there at Beary The Axe-You're convinced. This definitely was a good idea! Oh, I know you're curious, yes, they do serve alcohol! Yup. If you were weary about going, either you're totally sold on it now or nooo way. My guess is, you're in. I was part of a 7 person party-males and females ages ranging from 13 to 52. The staff was very accommodating, informative, friendly and sported the (what you would expect at an axe wielding establishment) brawny-type, well groomed beards. Thanks for bringing this unique idea to New Bern. We will be back! ~Jen N-D.

My husband and I stopped in on a whim. Neither of us had ever been to ax bar. We were greeted by a friendly staff, who gave us all the ins and outs of throwing including safety tips. Both my husband and I did not get the hang of right away. When the attentive staff checked in on us, they gave us some throwing tips that really helped. After watching me throw the knowledgeable staff suggested I try a different ax and it made all the difference. I was able to play a few games and beat my husband best 2 out of three games.

Tons of fun! Good price. $20 per person for the hour. Some cool merchandise. Staff was welcoming and helped you learn the proper and safe way to throw the axes. Affordable canned drinks, both alcoholic and non alcoholic. I loved it!

Ceilings were covered with draping American flags that had a cool visual effect. They have an extensive whiskey menu and a nice selection of local brews on tap. I tried one of the local brews: Beerista, a white stout from Shortway Brewing Company. It had a good nose of coffee and vanilla but it wasn't carried through on the sip. It was a lot lighter in texture than a traditional stout. For food I had the short rib. It was seasoned well and was super tender. The side of potatoes were tasty but on the border of being too salty. Green beans were average. They were good to counter the saltiness from the potatoes. I'd probably would give this place another shot if nearby.

My sister in law got the pork pot stickers, the appetizer for her main meal and hers came out after everyone else's was served by 12 mins or more. the wings were salty. My brother got the reveille and it was delicious. The jalapeno poppers were good, just need to be cooked a little more. I was sadden that I took a group to try it before I tried it prior. Would not try again unless had a coupon in case it ends up the same service way

Didn't happen to us, but when we arrived, there was indeed a train sitting there, and some cars in front, well, they weren't going anywhere anytime soon. Inside is all vibes, kind of set up like an old pharmacy, but slinging cocktails instead, and I have to say, the cocktails were very tasty and well priced. All the tables were full of friend and family groups playing board games and enjoying various flatbreads and libations. Seems like the kind of place the local neighborhoods enjoy and spend quite a bit of time at. At the moment, can't remember the names of the cocktails we got, its been a few months. But I do remember the toasts. This place doesnt have a kitchen in a traditional sense, more like a prep area where they bring ingredients together (that I imagine are made off site) and toast it up to present you with some pretty unique combos and flavors. Honestly, a great way around some of the health code restrictions that start to apply to more in-depth operations while still having a robust menu. We ordered a variety for the 4 of us, as this was dinner that evening. Gettin Figgy with it was a favorite, as were the Pig and the Goat, and the Reuben. Their version of a Cubano was alright, but as could be the case you'd imagine, the pork was a little dry. The caprese was the only one we got that seemed to be a universal thumbs down, the avocado spread wasn't working with the other ingredients. Definitely would come back for some of these toasts, and drinks!

Follow up!!!! So I…read morehad posted this review once and got an email from Yelp that they were removing it with no explanation as to why other than to say it appeared I was never at that establishment. Let me be very clear. I've been to this restaurant three or four times and none of them were exceptional. Most were OK. But the visit in question was quite bad and exactly as I had previously described. So I'm simply going to repost that same review here because it was very accurate to my experience and if anyone challenges as to whether or not, I was actually there I still have the receipt because it was a business trip and I can verify it Came by kind of late on a Tuesday. So had a very limited selection for menu options. Ok I get that. So - Fried anything or nachos that was it. Ordered a Mich. Ultra - never said bottle or draft. Didn't care. She gave me a bottle. The beer was Luke warm at best. So then I chose the Nachos. OMG. What is that stuff they call cheese!?!?!!! It was the texture of hummus and the color of a banana milk shake. Bad taste - very bad - and worse texture and smelled awful.. Nachos were NOT good not even a little bit!!! So then I asked about the warm beer. No apologies or effort to resolve it. Just a - "would you like another one?'" I asked - if it could be cold I would. She said you wanna try a draft instead!? So I said again - as long as it's cold - OK. It was warmer than the first one. WOW. So disappointed. Service was not great. But it was late. I hardly touched the Nachos. No questions - like were the nachos ok!? Or Would you like a to-go box. No concern as to why I didn't eat them. Just pulled them away and threw them away. But my bill was full charge. 2 beers and the nachos. I had about 4 chips and about 3/4 of one beer!!! I couldn't get out of that place fast enough. They were more interested in their crowd of friends who were gathered in a corner table and their plans to go out after that place closed. Very disappointed in this my 3-4 visit there. May be my last. Wow!
