Terrible management and terrible bouncer experience. The male bouncer walked in on a lady undressed because of "too many females in the bathroom". Disgusting service and management did not seem to care about the actions of a male worker walking in on females being undressed whilst using the restroom. There are no signs stating only one person at a time using restroom. It is common sense that ladies use restrooms in pairs. What is there to say beyond, "They're open until 2am." Okay. There are a few more things, there is an outdoor seating area where you can sit at a bench and drink and smoke a cigar. Choice! The drinks are not heavy handed with the spirits, but they're not the typical drink prices either, clocking in under $10. The big draw here is that I love the vibe. This feels like a neighborhood bar. People playing pool. People chatting it up and laughing. Jukebox cranking out tunes that the whole bar sings along to at times. An array of interesting characters behind the bar with different temperaments, but collectively professional. One night I lost my favorite sweater there. Just walked out without it. The bartender the next night made a beeline to it when they opened up the next afternoon. Absolutely do not recommend this place. The staff is horrible. I have seen them miss place peoples tabs on multiple occasions. And def don't play songs on the music box. They'll skip the song if they don't like it and then say they didn't. Absolutely horrible place. Would give them 0 stars if I could. read more

In town for work, and decided to drop in to this bar. While waiting for a drink, stood there and watch the bartender break the glass for the drink she was making, right over the ice well. She poured the contents of the broken glass into a new glass, finished making the drink, and handed it to the customer that was too far away to see it. As a former bartender, this is unacceptable. That drink now has shards of broken glass in it. Additionally? She kept making drinks out of the ice well that the glass broke over. That ice well needs to be burned, cleaned and refilled with fresh ice. Obviously, i decided not to stay for a drink, but i told the recipient of the tainted drink about what i saw before i left. read more

New Bern has a dive bar. And one with a full bar and 38 beers on tap. How to find it? Look for the people outside smoking on Front Street. But this isn't your normal dive bar crowd. I think right now the average age is 55. Now, it's only 6:45 but Sly and the Family Stone are cranking on the jukebox, it's hopping, and I just might wind up drinking my dinner. As good as it gets in downtown New Bern. Great bar staff that's welcoming to the regulars and newbies alike. Good mix of ages, townies, tourists, boat people from the local marinas, etc. Almost 40 beers on tap and the line up changes all the time. Live music most Fridays during the summer months in the Beer Garden. Re: Previous comment, restrictions per city ordinances and Historic District prevent them from having permanent structures in the outdoor area for seating/shade but you are welcome to bring chairs, blankets etc. I have lived downtown for a number of years and while the building is old - and thus, shows the wear and tear - it is always clean and reasonably presentable (I only say reasonably because late on a weekend night, any bar that's as busy as this place is going to look a little rough). Beside good bartenders and location downtown, this place could use a lot of sprucing up. I noticed they have painted and put some pictures up recently, but this place has a really icky feel. Starting from when you walk in the door, you are greeted with a strange smell. The floors are disgusting and the bathroom smells of sewer. I LOVE that they allow dogs... what I don't love is that they let the dogs walk around on the bar top. I know they are trying with the beer garden thing and live music, but most beer gardens I've been to have a seating area and shade. This is more of a make shift location on a piece of property. I pretty much try to avoid the place. It has potential, just clean it up. read more

We were in New Bern from Michigan for a wedding on 10/17 and we all went to the tavern after the wedding reception. Nate & Millie were our bartenders and rocked! This place has so much potential - 50? taps of great crafty beer, however they may not clean the tap lines as necessary so the beer can taste tainted or even spoiled - BTM has its popularity, "Like most bars, the crowd and vibe you get all depends on what time you go." I know a couple of beer/bar/grille owners who would love to take this place over, clean it up some and modernize efficiency. The service is nice and friendly, they can hustle a busy bar all while having to hand wash glasses and change kegs. A convenient food truck is usually parked out front serving fantastic grilled cheese sandwiches. Take BTM as it is and you'll have a decent time. BTM has something for everyone- from 50 cent drafts (Tuesdays) to the best of the best on draft- I think they must have 50 beers on tap- and they're constantly changing. You'll find every different type of crowd here - which speaks to what they're doing right: focusing on their service and their beer selection. Never had a bad experience. UPDATE: the OWNER of the bar PHYSICALLY ASSAULTED my husband! We went out this past Friday night for drinks and stopped in at BTMs only because that's where our friends were. My husband had two light beers max and I had a two mixed drinks mostly cranberry juice and then a few waters. We were by no means intoxicated nor impaired in any way. Our friends went outside for a smoke, so we followed to tell them we were going to the food truck and to see if they wanted anything. As soon as my husband stepped foot out of the smoking area, a man came up FROM BEHIND him and violently pushed him; the force was so strong that my husband fell back into me and almost knocked me to the ground. The guy proceeded to yell and curse in our faces. A guy next to me asked him "do you even work here?!" And the guy responded "I own the fucking place". He stormed off and never even apologized. My husband was minding his own business, doing nothing wrong. There were no signs, no chains up, no nothing. He was not warned in any way that he could not exit from the sidewalk until after he was pushed by the owner. The woman who was standing with the owner (I'm assuming she's either his wife or business partner) said "sorry, he's having a bad day". When she read my Facebook review, she messaged me and removed my review of the bar and told me that my husband was in the wrong and he was told before hand not to walk there. Which was clearly a lie. There is video from other customers, and even their own security footage to back that up. This is no way to run a business. Extremely rude, unprofessional, and ILLEGAL. I hope this place gets put on the MCAS Cherry Point blacklist. read more

Bear Town Market also know as BTM's has a very reasonable selection of beers on tap but I can't remember if I've ever seen any food offered so don't go there hungry. There are a few seating areas but mostly you'll be sitting at the bar. With only one pool table you won't be doing anything but talking as the table is always in use and if you do get to use it with all the people standing around it makes it hard to actually play. Great dive bar with a good pool table and shuffleboard. Huge find for such a small town. Great bar and perfect atmosphere for a small group of friends or just to hang out and chill by yourself. People are pretty relaxed and the drinks are spot on. Lots of beers to choose from and a full bar. read more
