Me: the coffee table? I ended up sitting (Criss cross applesauce as my children would say) on the floor so that I could be more level with the coffee table and food...and so I didn't look and feel like I was an animal eating my meal. I wasn't asking for anything odd. They wouldn't even give me a table outside the restaurant in the breeze way area...Mind you; I didn't arrive 5mins before closing but at over 30 mins the entire restaurant floor should be open. Also, there isn't fine print anywhere on the website saying "no tables available but the kitchen is open" or "we reserve the right to close the restaurant anytime we want". Is there is a class action case here? Does offering a coffee table to have dinner seem like a service or customer oriented option? I ordered: Appetizers: Fried spiced cauliflower not bad, nice crunch, good heat Main: over all the dish was cold. Worse, the Halibut was especially dry. The asparagus had an undercooked crunch and had zero flavor. I suspect the person doing the microwaving of this food couldn't wait to get home!. Let me note here: the appetizer and the main arrived at the same time. So annoying ! Clearly an indicator of expediency at the expense of customer service. Dessert: baklava cheesecake was cold and hard; I could have used a knife to cut myself pieces, not at all an standard experience with real cheesecake., I suspect it was already in the freezer and "the cook" possessed zero microwave game...how else does one explain when one gets something like ice cream vs a smooth silky texture of actual cheesecake...the philo dough on top was an afterthought. I always say it's "all about the food " at a restaurant. I described bad food but it was edible and I didn't get sick so that's something. However, the lack of empathy and service by any definition is just the worst at Botanicus and for me unforgivable. If you find yourself in my situation, I recommend opting for room service. At least you'll have a table to eat your badly microwaved food. And I suspect that's what they want you to do!

They also have a breakfast buffet for those that can't make up their mind after looking at the menu. Botanicus was the perfect place for my wife and I. My wife, who doesn't like to get up in the morning, ordered off the menu for a takeout breakfast in bed. I was able to visit the restaurant and partake in their buffet. Their breakfast buffet is better than a typical hotel buffet with everything elevated. In addition to scrambled eggs, they also have cooked to order eggs. It might be a Canadian thing, but, they had beef sausages. They even had smoothies. Service was very good. The wait staff understood my needs in getting takeout breakfast for my wife while I ate in the restaurant. They did a good job in clearing plates and in keeping my coffee cup filled. Botanicus was a great place for breakfast while staying at the Westin.

Last Friday, I went there specifically to buy their mix vegetable pakoras. After taking my first bite, I felt something extremely hard -- it felt like an uncooked channa (raw chickpea or another hard object). When I bit down, my tooth cracked severely all the way to the root. As a result, I now need oral surgery and a tooth extraction, with treatment costs totaling more than $7,000. I contacted the owner, Balwinder Virk, the same day to report the incident. Unfortunately, they denied responsibility and refused to help with the dental expenses. This wasn't the first issue. Three weeks ago, we ordered paranthas from their Westwind location, and the paneer parantha had an excessive amount of red chili powder. After taking only two bites, I experienced severe stomach pain that still continues today. These repeated issues have made me extremely disappointed and concerned about food safety. I will no longer recommend Chai Baar to anyone, and I urge others to be careful and check their food before eating.

The drink was not exciting at all - while pink, I expected some sort of latte art or something (not going to lie, I was ordering the drink partially because I wanted a nice photo). But to my dismay, the drink came in a takeaway paper cup even though I was sitting in, and secondly it was pretty much just super foamy on the top... no attempt at a nice pour of the milk. The drink was super sweet - I should have asked for it unsweetened. I think the sweetness covered up the beet taste, I could sense that it was there but just barely which was sad. Otherwise, service was okay. It was a bit awkward since it was really quiet when I arrived and the one staff wasn't at the counter. When she met me at the till, she didn't really say anything or make small talk (or even say hello really). But she did notice my struggle to fit myself at a small table and moved some flowers for me, plus it just seemed like she was working hard to keep busy by cleaning the place. I know I'm a coffee snob so that's more of where my review is coming from. I also grabbed some California Rolls, which were also tasty. You could tell they were fresh & I appreciate that in sushi just a little more than I appreciate that in all my other food. Ha! They lightly vinegar the rice, which I usually don't like, but it was light enough that it didn't bother me. I'm not a fan of their punch card system because you need to spend $10 in one shot and their prices are really reasonable so I will need a couple items to get there. I'm more likely to spend that in a day with incremental purchases as I need snacks, rather than in one go. If I'm going to plan ahead, I'll just pack a lunch instead. I don't know why we don't have a double fish filet in the States; the ratio was great! I want all my fish filets like this! Not a fan of poutine to be honest. I've never been a fan of poutine. If I want soggy fries, it better be because they're carne asada fries or chili cheese fries. Otherwise, I like my fries crispy, thanks. The 100% Canadian beef was good, but not a far cry from the American counterpart. All in all, we got what we wanted from this McDonald's, and it was a success! Perfect start to our road trip to Banff.
