Sorry to report worst pizza ever, I wanted a different experience but it's not good. Bad sausage quality and taste.

On vacation with the family, we stopped in on Bear's Den Pizzeria on our first night in town for dinner. The place is named after "Fred Bear" a bow hunting legend (we had no idea before we stopped in) and there is a ton of information and trophies of all kind throughout the establishment. The staff was welcoming, friendly, and helpfully pointed out all kinds of things we could do in town on our visit. We ordered several pizzas, chicken strips, and fries. Everything we had was fantastic. This was a great way to start off our vacation in town and would absolutely stop by again. read more

Each year my daughter and I visit Grayling for some summer fun. Bear Den is our only stop for good pizza. Local and friendly personality, good ingredients, and a small town old school vibe. read more

Friendly service. Tasty pizza. There is a car and hunting stuff around place. Even a stuffed black bear.

The food was great but I had one significant issue. There was literally one waitress working there with around 20 people she was serving. I don't fault her at all and she was doing the best she could but it was a long process to get lunch. I had to approach her at the front desk to get the bill. I am hopeful that the restaurant will hire more staff because even though my party enjoyed our food very much, I can't recommend coming here at this time. read more

Love. The Signature was loaded with peppers, onions, mushrooms, and overall cheesey goodness. Enough sauce to be yummy and so much to soak the crust. The crust was a crispy gooey middle between thick and thin crust. We also added the mac n cheese bites which we enjoyed, especially the kids. They were good, nothing special....deep fried mac n cheese. Our call in order was boxed exactly at the time given. So I picked the freshest pie possible. Staff was uber friendly. This was the most amazingly bad meal I've had in a long long time. Virtually no sauce on the "baked mostaccioli", just some naked pasta, a thin layer of sauce on top, and then some melted cheese. The pizza was doughy, flavorless ground meat, and raw onions. The calzone was equally awful. I truly do not understand why this place gets any positive reviews. The owners of Bear's Den should be embarrassed! We were there on Saturday June 10 at 5pm. The waiter was semi busy and doing his best, we understand that, but he got our order and got us our drinks. We sat there for almost 45-50 mins and had to leave. I stood at the counter and watched the speed of the kitchen staff, which a snail moves faster than they did! I asked for our food to be put in a to go and the waiter checked on our ticket... they hadn't even started our two personal pizzas and appeared that we were still 3-4 tickets till they did start them. We walked out the door at 610 with no food. The kitchen staff should all be fired for they speed they operate at! What happened to having some pressure and motivation on your staff? You actually pay people for that kinda work, your just wasting money on them. I have eaten here tons of times and this was ridiculous. read more

This small town pizzeria makes a nice pie. Before entering, look up. A pair of Italian pizza chefs with camouflage aprons hoisting large pizzas over the Bear's Den sign are a good indicator of what awaits. The Bear's Den is part fluorescent striplight diner, and part homage to Fred Bear, Sportsman/hunter/man's man of yesteryear. My father-in-law remembers when his archery factory turned out high quality bows right down the street in Grayling. Now his handiwork adorns the walls of this kitschy little pizzeria. I would not call this thin crust. (For a pizza to be true thin crust, it would be necessary to fold it over onto itself in order to give the necessary structure to eat the pointy half, and this pizza is unfoldable.) But it IS very good. They don't skimp on the cheese, and the crust is, well, CRUSTY. Dollar fifty draft beers, but take it easy--Traverse City is still an hour away. Probably a three-star place on my scale, but I'm giving it four because Jennifer H. sounds like a pain. read more

I have been to every incarnation of pizza parlor this place has been over the years...and it's always had good food and decent service. The Bear's Den incarnation was no different... The pros? They were non-plussed when our small group of seven turned into an unexpected group of about 17 (we took up half the restaurant). The one waitress who had our table (well, table x 4 actually) did a good job with all the separate orders--and separate checks. The cons? You only get one pop refill for your $1.99 and they don't mention that to you (you just have to read it on the menu). Some of the sub ("hup") prices seem a bit high. The breadsticks didn't come with any sauce--unless you wanted to pay extra. I ordered the garlic and butter breadsticks and they were pretty good. The BLT pizza intrigued me as it had white sauce on it. It was okay, but I wouldn't order it again. Hubby had a pizza sub (hup) and said it was good, but I'm not sure it was $8 good as it only came with chips. The waitress was pretty good with beverage refills and clearing off the table. The decor is great for hunters (think bows and arrows and camouflage) but honestly I just kinda ignored it all. If the food is good, who cares what's on the walls? read more

My teenagers have loved the breadsticks (spectacled and koala) at Bear's Den for years, their favorites in the whole state. The pizza is good, but sometimes the crust is too thick and the cheese too heavy for our tastes. I appreciate that they have personal pizzas on the menu, as we have very different tastes in our family. Bear's Den is an Up North favorite for us. read more

Holy hot mess. Pizza is good enough but in service was awful today. Dirty tables lead to no clean dishes. Salad with hair in it. Had to get our own napkins. Understaffed and under managed. Seriously, bad situation on the 4th of July. Maybe they couldn't get staff, but holy hot mess. read more

The lady at the front was very nice, but if I'm going to be honest, the pizza was not good. It tasted like a frozen pizza. Wasn't hot. There was almost no sauce on it. Carryout Review... I really wanted Bear's Den to be good. Perhaps the experience is better if you dine in. We ordered an Alaskan (Veggie) pizza to go. Not good. Straight up, I am pretty lenient on pizza reviews. There are so many styles and topping variations that an apples to apples comparison is difficult. If ranked by amazing - good - grocery store freezer - repulsive, our pie bordered on the grocery store/repulsive line. First off, the crust was mediocre in flavor but also undercooked. The whole pie was undercooked. The box was soggy. That's a problem. The cheese was noticeably of low quality in the resistant to melting kind of way. The toppings were average in quality and plentiful. Oh, the mushrooms. I almost never get mushrooms because the canned variety is pretty nasty in my opinion. When I viewed the only online menu I could find, it said fresh. They were not. Plentiful slimy canned mushrooms. I almost feel slightly bad for writing this review, as I want this small business to flourish in this quaint town. Quality should be much better given the $21 bucks for a large. Yelp! That's good pizza! This was a dinner stop for us and we do not regret it! The service and pizza were right on! Party of four and we all ordered the personal pizzas. Pizzas were cooked to perfection! We each had a piece left to take home -yea! This isn't necessarily a con, but be ready for an unusual ( in my experience) preference request when ordering mushrooms on pizza: canned or fresh? Note: fresh does not mean sauteed. I and six friends stopped here while on a snowmobiling trip. We had a late night pizza, wings and a few beers. Our server was extremely friendly, the cook prepared the pizzas and wings quickly and it was all terrific. Their pizza is a thinner style crust, a little on the limp side (which I prefer) and loaded with cheese. We got one of their specialty pizzas that is an 18" loaded with one pound of cheese and 100 pepperonis. Hands down the best pizza in or around Grayling. The prices are not bad considering the the great food you get. Delivery is usually earlier than predicted. Dining in is always a treat, great history and bows by Fred Bear. The crew are very kind and will make sure you are happy. Clean and spacious, and newly redecorated and expanded. Good pizza & bread. I'm not a fan of their crust but that is only personal preference. Prices are fair. Odd that they ask if you want fresh mushrooms vs canned but I'm glad we are able to get fresh. I would give them 2.5 stars if I could. The pizza was only OK, the service was decent. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't worth $18. I would have called ahead for a take-out order from Shorts if I had known the pizza was only going to be ok. I will say it looked great! But the upper part of the crust was not cooked. For the price I would have appreciated a slightly larger amount of toppings (yes, I know adding more toppings can change texture and cooking time of the pizza.) I would recommend others to try them out as a dine-in experience, I think since our order was a take-out and we got there earlier than expected, maybe they rushed the cooking time a little, not sure the cheese was pretty brown on top, but that upper crust was not done. read more

I love to come here to the Bears Den Pizzeria because it gives you a history lesson. I like the idea of a museum/diner it appeals to me. I also have been here through out the past 20 years and have always enjoyed the food. We love to stop in and order the breadsticks. They are almost like a small cheese pizza with out the sauce(which you can order on the side) and they are super yummy. They also have dessert breadsticks with cinnamon and a side of frosting. Also very yummy. The staff here is typically very friendly, on their toes, and knowledgeable. I would recommend this place to anyone who wanted great pizza and good service and with a history lesson to boot..heck yeah! read more
