I had it towed for the starter. I did not get an estimate over the phone and he accused me of calling him multiple times when I did not. He replaced the battery and charged me $487. The $287 for the battery and $200 for labor. When I went to pick it up, I told him I didn't ask for a new battery because I tested it and it was at 11 V. He told me I didn't test it for low volt, which was at 10. That still didn't warrant a new battery that I never asked for. He was extremely rude and tried to intimidate me. The mechanic first removed the battery they placed and put my old one in or supposedly it was my old one. I had no way to know. That battery didn't work at all and they insisted it was my original battery. Since I have been dropped off and had an appointment to go to I argued for a bit and then eventually gave up and got the new battery in and paid the money. In hindsight, I should've had it towed to Master Autocare or somewhere else. It was a very upsetting experience. For some reason, he kept saying that I called him a lot, and insinuated that I was putting pressure on him I guess? I truly didn't even call and left it there for three days before he called me the day before I say it was ready. And yes, he should've given me an estimate over the phone and he did not. I should've insisted on an estimate. This was my fault. However, it's also his responsibility and law to give me an estimate. He told me that people leave their BMWs there all the time and just tell him to fix it. He also told me that the cost of a college football ticket is $400 and that everything is going up. I really didn't see how that was relevant, but that was his example of how inflation is hurting the economy I guess. read more

Tim, the owner, has saved me money on repairs which always would cost more at the dealer (I've loyally called to compare!) but also important for me, he has saved me time, my most valuable resource!! Half of me didn't want to post a review, but the other half said people have to be aware because I can't get over it. Caution: Long story. Tuesday morning, my car (2009 Honda Civic - 110k miles) didn't start up. Called AAA and a tech came out. Battery was ok, could be better, but he pointed the problem towards the starter. No problem, should be a couple hundred and get it taken care of same day. I decided to take it to Beard's since I saw a ton of license plate covers with their name on it so it made me think they were legit (I'll get to that, just wait). Brought the car in and Tim seemed straight forward, funny, and gave you that "we'll take care of you like family" feeling. He seemed like the kind of guy you would grab a beer with. I waited around for a little while before grabbing a rental car and they looked at it for a few minutes before concluding that my timing chain most likely skipped, but had to look at it more later that day. I leave for a few hours, then call back around 4:30; they close at 5:00 pm. I didn't hear a thing from them. I called three times, no one answered and mailbox was full. Went there in person, Tim was gone due to personal moving, I understand. The two techs were still there. I asked one of them what happened with my car. One of them explained the situation as the timing chain skipped which caused the plastic supporters to break (or something very similar) and the whole motor needed to be replaced. I was in shock. I couldn't believe it, at 110k miles on a Honda. The worst part is they said it will cost $2,800 for the new motor. Before making my decision the next day, I talked it over with family and concluded that Beard's is NOT a AAA certified shop and I should take it to one that is. So that's what I did. The next day, I told Tim I was towing it to a different shop. He consistently repeated over and over that "other places will say the same thing", then went on about his long time experience and generational history of the shop. Then kept trying to push the sale harder and harder. Then insulted me. Hey, I can take the heat if I know you, but this was business and that's crossing the line. The more he pushed, the more I wanted out. He ended up charging me $100 for a diagnostic fee. While I was waiting for the tow truck, a customer came in with issues for her car but mentioned that she wanted the license plate cover removed. It was the one the owner puts on EVERY car WITHOUT their permission. He even did it to mine. When I confronted him about it, all he claimed is that it was "marketing". What gives you the right to remove/destroy my property without my permission? Want to see something scary? I found his little stash of other people's license plate covers in a pot (see pic). That is NOT the right way to do business. When I took my car to the other place, they replaced the battery, starter, and changed the oil and guess what? IT WORKS. There was no need for a new motor. By getting a second quote, I saved over $2,000! My gut feeling said this wasn't a good place to get this type of service done. Maybe they're good with basic maintenance and other issues, but I get the feeling if there's an opportunity to rip, they might take it. read more

Took vehicle in with an issue to be fixed. Engine warning returned the very next day. Had diagnostics run and it was the same issue. Took it to Garden Auto Care and it was fixed correctly. Beard's charged me $200 for parts, while Garden charged me $100. Beards charged $500 labor for a job Garden did in an hour and charged $115. Total charges: Beard's $742 and problem not fixed. Garden $225 and issue resolved. I would not recommend Beard's to anyone. Smooth talker, acts like he's your pal, then you get the bill and faulty work. read more

This shop is run by a scammer and a criminal. I have brought two vehicles to Beards to be "fixed" only to have none of their issues resolved. I spent $1000+ on a service check and oil / filter change, they said there was nothing wrong. Within two weeks of that I have had an oil leak and multiple parts fail. One of which the owner pointed out with a flashlight clearly indicating he could have found it if the service check was ever actually performed. They attempted to fix my steering and did not for $2000 even after it took two attempts because Tim Beard decided to make decisions for me about my truck and over rule me. I brought it back and showed the mechanic the issue for him to laugh in my face and say "welcome to hell" can't make this crap up. This is a scam shop, they will talk you out of the door and call you back with a huge bill and nothing to show for it. read more

Wow, just sat down and read all the reviews on this shop after getting my Volkswagen back from him a second time for a second problem fixed correctly both times. You never know whether these reviews are real or just pissed off people with cars they don't maintain oh, they try to blame mechanics. Then you see other reviews that are 5 stars all the way and you think how can that be when everybody says this guy sucks.they sound like fake reviews by friends. So here's a very simple review a beards garage by a real local Jupiter resident. If you are looking to have your car fixed quickly where you don't get in the position of needing a Rent-A-Car bring it here he will literally get your car done overnight if it is not too complicated of a repair. Contrary to what people are saying on this site he does not do repairs on your car that you do not approve first at least he didn't with me.He always called and got my authorization first. If you're looking for the least expensive place to bring your car this is not the place he uses OEM Parts Only, and charges what are the highest hourly shop rates I've ever seen. But he gets it done quick and correctly. A few tips if you're going to use him check the price of the part it is as simple as a quick Google search and the labor cost to do a job on a certain vehicle is as well a quick Google search. You can use this to negotiate with mechanics I do it all the time.Do the math to determine how much money you will save by not renting a car and the time you will save by not driving around searching for the cheapest part and choose wisely.Sometimes it's just better to pay a little more. Dropped my car off the last time for a fuel pump at 4 by AAA I didn't even go with the vehicle he had it done by 11 the next morning I didn't drive anywhere or lift a finger had a friend bring me in the next day . Terrible experience, the owner of the shop was the most dishonest person. Brought my car in on Monday at 9:30 AM for valve cover gaskets. The owner said will do the "best I can" to get it back to you today. I called several times that day and left a message with no return call. Tuesday morning I get a call that he had broken the intake boot. Said these things just break. Wednesday morning I get a call that the car is running ruff and now needs coils and he will get to it as soon as he can. Thursday I call the shop with no luck getting in touch with him all day. Friday morning I call the shop early and tell him I need the car. He tells me it is still leaking oil and that I now need a VVT gasket and that is only $ 30 but he can not get it so he needs to get the entire VTech Selenoid and it is going to be another $ 360.00. I call pep boys and this part for a 2011 honda is $ 211.00 and the $ 30.00 gasket is $ 8.50. I have never had such a bad experience with a Mechanic. The initial quote when I walked in was just over $400.00 and walked out paying over $1000.00. Do not use this guy and warn anyone who says they are going there. He is very dishonest! read more

Great experience with Beards they did routine maintenance on my Moms 2009 Volvo s40. A new battery, brake pads, oil change etc. The price came out lower than Tim quoted and faster than promised. Wish I would have read the reviews prior but he was referred to me. Completely agree with the numerous negative reviews. This guy is a total scam. Had an ESP light for the brakes come on, needed him to hook it to the computer to get the fail code. Also while there told him to do front brake pads, heater hose which he pointed out that was bad ( nothing looked wrong with it why wouldn't I trust him ) also changed the oil and trans fluid. Asked for a quote, he said $500 no more than $600. Rented a car for 4 days while he ordered the part from the dealer. He called, said the car was fixed, cost is $1,024. I said how did this double, he claimed there were 2 hoses and the labor. Now comes the good part, left the shop, light came back on he said bring it in don't turn it off. I arrived same day at 4:45pm. He hooked it up and got an error code, said that's what came up prior and his computer wasn't the best and he wasn't spending 40k on a good one. He called some other mechanic and they told him to try another method. He said it's 5pm shops closed come back in the morning and it will take an hour. Went back the next morning and it took less than 3 minutes to reset the system. Told me he wasn't charging me and if he didn't it would have been $300. Wait a minute, think I mentioned I brought it in for this specific issue. Total dick, would run the other way if anyone reads this. He also put that shitty green license plate holder in my car which I tossed already. Lastly, car isn't running right, worse off then before. read more

He then told me he would fix it for another 1000 dollars or so. When I declined to have him work on my car, he charged me $48 dollars for a tow back to his shop. This guy actually charged me $48 bucks for a tow after my car broke down leaving his shop. I had AAA come and tow my car to another mechanic. This guy Tim has zero soul. Tim the owner is totally dishonest and untrustworthy. He will try to get whatever he can get from you. He replaced a belt on my car and quoted me over the phone $!20. Upon finishing the job he said give me $150 and it has to be cash. When I called him on it with some disagreement he said OK give me $120. Unfortunately I used him again to replace four spark plugs. He really didn't want to give me a quote but when he did he said between $100 and $125. When it came time to pay he wanted $270. I reminded him of the quote and he said he put in really good plugs which cost him $48 apiece and he was marking them up to $55 each and charging me for a half hour of shop time at $100 and hour. When I resisted paying the $270 he came down to $230 and started yelling at me that I was cheap and that the car wouldn't run right on cheaper plugs. He also demanded cash. At this point things had turned pretty nasty. I told him I only had $200 in cash and he grabbed it out of my hand and said get the hell out of here and don't come back. After the incident I called five auto parts stores in Jupiter plus the KIA dealer for a price on four plugs. None on the auto parts stores were more than $88 for four plugs and the KIA dealer was $92 for four plugs. Tim is a liar, dishonest and a disreputable person. Stay away!! read more

I have used Tim for auto maintenance for years now - breaks, water pumps, radiator replacement, AC and a timing chain, all done at very reasonable pricing. And if he isn't comfortable with the repair, he knows the specialist to recommend (like transmissions or computer/electrical issues on newer models). Even though this is an older truck (1994 Chevy 1500), it is a rare occurrence for me but with luck, I ended up at Beards Garage and Brent and his team were able to take care of my truck within a day both times. Is there a way to rate in NEGATIVE stars? Brought my Nissan Pathfinder in because the check engine light was on. Dealt with the owner Tim Beard and he told me that I needed 2 new oxygen sensors. Left my vehicle with him and when he called me to let me know it was ready he said he had replaced all 4 oxygen sensors. After I complained he agreed to absorb the cost of the additional 2 sensors. But the price went from $300 to $428! I left the shop and within a mile the check engine light came back on. I went back to the shop he connected the truck to the diagnostic computer and it showed that all 4 sensors he just replaced were bad! The next day he calls me and says he "did more research" and that the problem is he used after-market oxygen sensors. He says he needs to replace all 4 sensors with factory ones, at an additional cost of $50/sensor ($200), and it MIGHT fix the problem. To say that he is incompetent AND a crook would be an understatement and an insult to incompetent crooks. Don't go anywhere near this place! read more
