I've been going here for about 11 years and have never had issues. I have always had something to do with any type of weather, whether that be swimming or playing basketball on a warm day, or hanging in the lodge playing board games and watching tv with my friends on a cold rainy day. This place has gone downhill in a major way. My family has been camping here for years and always had a great experience, but this last time was just a nightmare. The staff was always a bright spot to the stay; they would help with anything and everything that was asked of them. This past experience was completely different, the staff looked so unhappy, the campground was unkept and the grass was high. The new owner's son was a complete jerk to us, he was completely uninterested in our issues, and left us feeling like he thought we were jerks. To go from our favorite campground to our least favorite in one year is actually remarkable, but that's what happens when someone who knows nothing about hospitality buys a business in the hospitality industry. We hope they figure out what they are doing, but in the meantime we are going to find another campground. read more

What is a hobo pie? It's camp fire cooking with two pieces of bread. Then you fill the sandwich with your favorite sandwich filling, be it cheese, meats, and sauces. Spray cooking oil to the hobo pie maker and place the sandwich in the maker, follow by pie iron into the fire. For starters, I had the veggie corned beef with sauerkraut and Swiss cheese. For dessert, had the delicious sweet consisting of Brie cheese, raspberry jam and chocolate chips. My partner's family and I were treated on our last night of camping with these and didn't disappoint. read more

Unfortunately our one night Sunday stay was quite the nightmare. Upon arrival; we didn't have reservations but earlier in the week were told they weren't required for Sunday nights (primitive site) The check in process was interesting because they were very strict about pet breed, proof of vaccinations, etc. I wish they were that cautious about the people that they allow to call here as well. The site next to us arrived after us, and was of course a car full of young 20 somethings that I automatically assumed would pose problems. As promised, the boys staying in the site next to I us were an absolute nightmare. From 8PM-330AM, constant yelling, cussing, blaring music, fighting, even vomiting throughout the valley. At 230am I had had enough and called the "urgent line" to the campground and was greeted on my second call by someone who said "they would try to get ahold of someone to get them to check it out" last time I checked, someone responsible had to be on a campground at all times in cases like this. Our experience was unfortunate, and could have been avoided if the campground had someone alert and doing rounds. In addition to the unground pool, and (paid) bathhouses, the camp sites are small (very small) expensive, ($36 per night), and the roads leading to the sites and the sites themselves are overgrown and there are limbs and sticks everywhere. No grates on fire ring, but don't worry the gift shop has them for sale. read more

Campground is geared toward seasonal campers - travelers beware. Made reservations for 3 nights informed them that I had a truck camper & on arrival at check in I asked the girl if the site was level and she said it was. Was guided to the "Primitive Area", their name not mine. Down a gravel road around a horse pasture to a gravel site bordering said pasture that was no where near level. Bath house is about 150 yards around the pasture but we did have 2 porta johns - woo hoo. I had to unload my camper to level it & had I not been visiting family in New Castle I would not have accepted this site. At $41/night this was a ripoff. read more

Not if you have a dog that looks like a pit bull. Our fur child is a mixed breed we THINK it's pit up terrier and English bull dog but we don't know because he is a rescue. He is the sweetest most loving laid back dog on the face of the planet. The most "dangerous" thing about him is his tail when he hits you with it while he's wagging it excited to see you. He is trained and obedient but that doesn't mater because he looks like a pit. We were forced to cancel our reservation. read more

Sites too close together. Don't like the permanent rv sites with junk, trash, decks, toys, bird feeders junking up the site and campground. Just get a 2nd home instead of trashing the campgrounds. I just don't see why people come here. read more

This is the second time I have stayed here. First time was 17 years ago. This time was just as awesome as the last. First, the staff is absolutely amazing. Pleasant and beyond friendly. Our cabin was pristine clean. Made hotels that we have stayed in look deplorable. The atmosphere is perfect for the time away from work and the responsibility of every day life. I had a really great time here. It was a perfect fit for a first time camping - I was in Polar cabin which is walkable into Moraine State Park and kind of tucked away from the rest of the campground but still close enough to use the bath house and stop into the store when we inevitably forgot a few things. The staff were super nice, our cabin was as described, and sort of on a high elevation so it was really nice to sit up there in the morning with the sun coming through the trees. The only reason I'm not giving a higher rating is because I had kind of a rough time regarding my dog. I made my reservation on the phone, and the person booking asked me what kind of dog. She is a pit bull/retriever mix. When I got there, they asked me to sign a pet policy form that said no Huskies, Rottweilers, etc. including pit bulls. They are totally within their rights if certain dogs are not allowed (I won't take this opportunity to lament this insurance-related myth). It's just a little annoying that this policy is nowhere on their website and the person on the phone didn't say anything about it. They ultimately let me stay, I think partially because the cabin was removed from the rest of the campground, but what if they had turned me away? What a bummer. So if you have any of these breeds, book somewhere else. Hopefully they will get that on their website sometime soon. Sadly I won't be back. read more

This is a very nice campground we have had a seasonal site for the past five years. The grounds are friendly and safe, we have made several long lasting friendships here and the site is kid friendly. There are activities on the weekends and places to explore. You are not far from Pittsburgh, Grove City and Erie. read more

The staff here are extremely nice people. I watched them carry a load of fire wood for a lady just because it was the right thing to do. The bathrooms are nice and clean. I was a little taken aback by having to pay for showers however given the cost of staying per night. The RV spots are level and paved which is great. Some spots are much better than others.. some are very steep and have little room to relax. Other spots are more flat and spacious. The WiFi needs some work as you are constantly being dropped from the campgrounds service. read more

Stayed @ BRC in our pop-up camper last Summer. The sites are hilly and you're packed in like sardines. Showers cost a quarter. On a positive note the Staff was kind and helpful in escorting us to our site. Camp store and pool are nice. Moraine & McConnells Mills is very close by and worth the trip!! read more

Love this place! They have the friendliest staff and even have a security guard there on the weekend. The site next to us was really noisy and when the security guy came over to quiet them down he stopped over at our campsite to apologize and to make sure where we okay! The office staff is super helpful too and the outdoor staff are always ready to help out. Be it directing us pulling the fifth wheel out or giving us the scoop on the town. The owners really care about their guests and are super accommodating. By far the best campground I've ever been to. read more

I've only been to the campground in Tionesta, but this one has tons of things for kids (pool, playground, horseshoes). Nearby ice cream, McConnell's Mill, and Moraine State Park. The $10 guest entrance fee gets a huge "booo"!!! read more

I used to love this campground, used to be regulars and rented cabins here. Unfortunately, we stopped coming because of feeling unsafe. It occurred to me that I should write a review to warn other people. The last time we stayed, we overheard many, many gunshots. This is bad enough, but when the campground followed up with us they referred to the incident as "target practice" as if that was a less serious offense on a campground that forbids guns. I'm not convinced that it was target practice (targets don't move and allow you to take your time lining up shots, while prey runs away and you have to fire at it rapidly), but either way, those bullets could have hit a person or dog or spooked a horse. What's more, I mentioned this event when I was checking out. The employee had not heard anything about the gunshots and didn't seem concerned event though I said it made me feel unsafe. We have not returned to this campground since. I previously saw a gun locker in the back of someone's truck but didn't mention it to the camp since I had no evidence that it contained any guns. However, I would be very surprised if they actually checked. Too bad. read more

We were greeted at the gate by a very pleasant gentleman and guided to our site by a very polite young man who explained everything necessary to us...but after that it all went downhill! The site was small...very small barely able to accommodate our 20 ft. camper let alone our truck. The site was so uneven we had a real hard time leveling our RV since it was on a hill, unpaved with lots of exposed tree roots. We put up our 10x10 canopy over the little picnic table with only inches to spare before it hit our camper door. We hoped lighting a campfire didn't do any damage to our truck since it was so close. We could hear every word or neighboring campers said since we were so close...basically they pack em in like sardines!!! After hearing the weather report for the remainder of the weekend...rain, rain and more rain we decided rather than sit in a little mud puddle we forfeited our last night fee of $42 and headed for home. Their sites definitely need some work..For us it's not the type of place you can sit around a campfire and relax...even our dogs were stressed because they could hardly move..Sorry Bear Run we won't be back! read more

This campground is ridiculously overpriced for their poorly maintained campsites. While I appreciated the primitive walk-in campsites, most of them were trashy (litter, waste, damaged trees, etc) and slanted on a hillside. I was able to find a decently sized campsite but some of them were barely big enough to fit a single tent and they still charge $34/night which is absolutely outrageous. There were port-a-pottys near the primitive campsites that seemingly have not been emptied for the entire summer - upon opening the door, i did not need to step inside to see the waste piled almost to the toilet seat. i hear that nearby Breakneck Campground is very nice, reasonably priced, and definitely where i will spend my next overnight in butler. www.breakneckcampground.com read more

We stayed at Bear Run this past weekend because it was just too cold and wet to camp at Cooper's Lake. I was very impressed. The staff was helpful and very nice. The accommodations at Sunset Lodge were comfortable, clean, warm and dry. We found the campground to be clean and well-run with a caring and helpful staff. My only complaint is the beds were not very supportive and I would like to see them upgraded. Otherwise, the cost of the accommodations was reasonable and I would consider Bear Run Campground to be a good value. We will be back. read more

Love this place! We stayed in log cabin 5&6 between the trout pond and horse pasture. The campground map was a little confusing at first but we figured out. Cabins have good space, showers are nice and hot! The map is deceiving, you are not right on the water. There is a drop off and trees between the cabins and water, there is a fence so no one falls. We had a big group and a baby. Good spot for us! We were quite loud all night and no issues! Staff is extremely friendly. Clean cabins. Will be back, recommend! read more

If there was ever heaven on earth, this is it. We have a seasonal site at Bear Run. however, you don't have to be a seasonal to enjoy being there. They have plenty of tent, pull thru and large RV sites. The grounds are very well maintained. The fact that it is a family run, family oriented campground is what drew us there in the first place. There is always something to do and plenty of very friendly folks to do it with. If you are looking for that just far enough away to feel like you are in another time zone, then this is where you want t go. It is only 35 miles north of the 'burgh. read more

TERRIBLE. Dont stay. Save your money. False advertising all the way through. No bathrooms, all port-a-pottys. Youll spend more time in the showera trying to get hot water than actually using it. Wifi didnt work. Soft ball field is on a 35 Degree slope and is used as a parking lot. The entire campground is on rolling hills and they pack you in there like sardines. read more

Bear Run is a nicely-maintained campground. It has a range of different options from camp sites, to a variety of cabins, to RV hook-ups. Not being the most adventurous campers, we chose one of the little cabins. I thought it was funny that our very well-maintained camping cabin had both wifi and air conditioning, but both were welcome. The nearby restrooms were incredibly clean. The family had fun at the pool and cooking out with friends in a nearby cabin. read more

Gated campground very close to Moraine and McConnell Parks. In spite of all the rain, the staff was working hard to make sure it didn't ruin the camping experience. There are many sites for everything from primitive camping to full size homes on wheels with lots of trees. The have many nice amenities for families: pool, arcade, playground, and gold panning. The camp store has the basic needs and the town of Portersville has a small grocery, pizza, and a diner. Free WiFi worked great and they offered paid upgrades. The bathhouse was clean and porta-johns were cleaned regularly and reasonable walking distance to sites. The main thing they can improve is accessibility to the fishing on the camp lake. A pier or dock or something so more than one person can fish at a time. No boats allowed. The camp wood (sold at store) smoked a lot and burned up quickly. Recommend buying local better seasoned wood. FYI: There is a rooster near the horse barn that crowded at 0400 and until after the sun was up. read more

We have stayed many years for the Jeep Invasion, every year, increasingly, we are treated more poorly. Last year, We were removed from 1 cabin to another because one of their favorites wanted it, we rented it first, we payed our money for that cabin, but we were told upon arrival that it was no longer ours and if we didn't like the only cabin they had left, they would pitch a tent for us in the visitors parking lot. Good level spacious ground is hard to find in this campground, everyone is packed like sardines and the entire campground is on a massive hillside. This year, we needed to put up an extra tent. We were argued with and essentially told no. The extent of it was they thought we were trying to rip them off by adding more people to the cabin, we were not, only 2 of us could stay in a 4 person cabin and the other 2 wanted to sleep outside. The owner wanted them to pay the cost of an electric site to do this. Finally, we were all being picked up to go to butler to enjoy the evening invasion. 3 of our friends were charged a 10$ gate fee, they stayed a total of 1/2 hour. The owners are increasingly hostile and laughed us off when we tried to explain they were picking us up and not visiting. Be wary of this place read more

We just returned home from a three day weekend with our kids. We had a wonderful time at this campground. We chose to stay in an Appalachian cabin- they are small and rustic but with some conveniences like cots, a fridge and AC. Although there is running cold water in the sink, there is no bath so it still feels like camping (without the tent). But those little conveniences definitely help when traveling with young kids. These cabins are located close to the pool and playground and easy access to the bath house. The campground was immaculate and our site was lovely! Everyone we encountered at the campground, from staff to guests, were friendly and welcoming. The staff went out of their way to be helpful and accommodating. In addition, there are wonderful activities each weekend- we were lucky enough to see the wild world of animals show. It was great! We also did ceramics with the kids, rented a canoe, gem mined, took a wagon ride and even a pony ride before coming home. The kids can't stop taking about it. We will definitely be back! read more

The pictures on their site is deceiving . We thought that it looked like a wonderful place to stay...Started off bad right from the beginning. We booked early enough to get a better spot.. Were told that there were lots of spots available at the time. When we got there we had only a choice of 3 sites ( none any better ) We were told that others had been booked before us ( not true as we asked 5 campers that had good sites & they said they booked only a day or two early to get theirs. .plus they were only staying for the weekend ( so their spots were left empty the rest of the week.) We had a whole week to stay in our terrible spot.. So un- level that we had to go in and out of our unit via 3 huge blocks to our step which rocked back and forth making it very dangerous for us at our age. Awful brown water ( no different than their other sites though ) coming from a broken faucet that kept dripping enough to cause a mud hole close to our unit. Bathroom was filthy, paid for shower and it still didn't work. Commodes always filled with poop & paper because they didn't flush right. Pay showers that didn't work ( just dripped ) after you wasted the quarters. Dish washing basin filthy as well and I cleaned it each day. I did more cleaning there than they did just to use the facility . Believe me if we hadn't been there with a pop-up camper that was hard to take down and set up, we would have left after the first day. We told management ( both brothers and employees inside the store) , and they were suppose to come and speak to us...Felt they should have at least reimbursed us for the cleaning supplies I had to purchase at their store. We were told that one of the managers would speak to us the day we were packing up to leave....No where were they to be found ! We have camped for 50 years and this was one of the worst places. + lots more expensive than most others. Paid a high price to spend a lousy week there read more
