The location in Bear Mountain Park is excellent! One can enjoy all the amenities of the state park including a portion of the Apalachian Trail that includes a very pleasant zoo and museums, educational trail signage, a wonderful pool, an antique yet functioning carousel,and beautiful views of the mountains and the lake. More park amenities are coming. The inn is a heritage inn buit in 1915 but with the expected hotel amenities. That said we got the idea that money might be tight becuse the level of expected service was not there. We ordered a charcuturie board and a bottle of wine and was told it was delivered to our room. We had been traveling all day and arrived after the onsite restaurants had closed. The board was not there. They handed us a bottle of wine but there was no board! The nice lady at the front desk got the workers who were cleaning up the kitchen to fix us a board and we eventually got it and it was delivered to the room without utensils, napkins or plates. But we requested and got those. We heard 2 slightly different stories about why we had not gotten the board when we arrived. However it was good. The next day our room still was not cleaned when we returned from our hike around 2:30 p.m. The dirty dishes were still there. We were told it would be cleaned after all the rooms that needed to be ready for incoming arrivals were done. So we could not shower or take a nap while waiting for housekeeping. There is only 1 chair in the room and bed wa still unmade, I think staff is trying to be accommodating but either they are understaffed or poorly managed. Our first impression was not great as the entryway was not too clean. Doormats and windows were dirty. Our room and bathrooms were clean though. It is a beautiful inn but needs some polish to make it classy. Better management. The inn has an onsite spa, a giift shop. Hikers Cafe. Bar with indoor or balcony seating. and formal dinig room. Unfortunately they only had Christmas decorations inside the inn and they had a gingerbread contest going on. I remember years ago where they had a path of Christmas lights and a separate room of where they had a train and villages set up but I guess they stopped doing that. Went here for a wedding reception and spent the night. Wedding reception was good. (Food, drink and service). One of the bartenders must have been new, as I noticed she kept asking her coworker what goes into a particular mixed drink. Our room was spacious enough. A/C and tv worked fine. Bed was comfortable. The room had a rustic charm (read as the furniture was a bit on the old and weathered side). And I believe a ghost was in our room (309), because one of the vanity drawers kept sliding open after I had closed it a number of times. The only complaint I had, which they fixed while we were at the reception, was that the bathroom tap water was a rusty brown. They must have flushed the pipes while we were out dancing the night away because the water was clear for the remainder of our stay. read more

I have stayed here twice -- once several years ago and once recently. Rooms are of course nothing fancy, but they are clean and inviting in a lodge-y sort of way. But two things really elevate staying here: One is the incredible views and access to the trails and lake, etc. But second is the genuinely friendly and helpful customer service from folks at the front desk and elsewhere. Lots of young (to me!) people employed, and they are unfailingly polite and consistently go out of their way to help you. Reservations are also easy to make, and the Inn is flexible with regard to canceling or changing details. Really just an inviting and well run place. read more

The Adirondack atmosphere is lovely. Unfortunately, that's the only positive I can say. The brunch was basically an expensive breakfast with mediocre food. There was one charging dish of hot vegetables and two types of potatoes. No rice, no chicken, no beef and chewy pork. When the server (you can't serve yourself) held up the bacon, it actually dripped grease. There was at least an inch of grease in the bottom of the pan. The buffet server put potatoes on my plate and then removed some. The salmon was good, but tiny pieces. We had the last seathing and by the time we got to dessert, there was only one type left. Most of the food was barely warm. The server was so poor I asked for the 18% in voluntary tip be removed. I had to ask for cream for my coffee, then I had to ask for a spoon. When I started to ask for the cream she walked away as I was talking stating she needed to take a photo. It took an hour for her to return to give me a coffee refill but never offered to refilled my friend's tea. No one removed our dirty dishes. By the way, the place was near empty. My friend asked the server for decalf tea. She brought peppermint, which my friend hates. When asked if there was black decalf tea, the young server said no. When my friend went to the buffet she saw decalf black tea on the table. All this for $70 without a tip! P.S. I had the absolute pleasure of being helped by Marsi Miller, and she made my Bear Mountain Inn experience truly exceptional. Not only did Marsi handle my hotel reservation, but she went above and beyond to assist me with fine dining reservations for both lunch and dinner. I was originally supposed to manage it all through a website, but Marsi took care of everything personally. She even followed up with a call to confirm all was in order. Stayed at echo stone cottage for a wedding this weekend. Totally disappointed with check in. When we arrived at cottage area was not plowed or shoveled. Leaving us no way to get into our rooms. My wife and I grew up in the Peekskill area, but we now live in Pennsylvania. Since we were in the area visiting relatives and it happen to our 52nd anniversary, we decided to treat ourselves and stay for a few nights at the inn. I also made a reservation at the 1915 restaurant for our anniversary night. It appeared to be a very nice high-end restaurant, and this was a special day for us. I made all these reservations a week in advance. On the day we were to arrive (we were already on the road) I got a call from the inn to tell me that they made a mistake making the dinner reservation because the 1915 restaurant is CLOSED on Mondays and Tuesdays! What! Nothing on website saying that and they accepted the reservation. What a disappointment. They were totally unsympathetic. They said don't worry the bar is open and we could get hamburgers there. No doubt the inn is beautiful and the room was large, comfortable, and clean, but I found that all the employees I encountered were unfamiliar with anything to do with the inn and not very friendly. The Hiker's Cafe was terrible. Awful coffee and poor service. My suggestion is to get better management and train your employees. read more

Had an overnight with my child at the Bear Mountain Inn for their Bearlicious Escape offer, and we had a wonderful time. Our room was ready earlier than expected. The man at the front desk, Khalil, was very friendly and helpful. Our room was clean and well appointed. I love that the refrigerator made our drinks so cold! No light in the large closet, which was odd, but we didn't need the closet anyway. All the staff we came across was friendly and helpful. Current General Manager Levon B. exudes massive passive aggressive energy-- unprofessional, doesn't know how to align or speak with employees constructively nor with patrons of the establishment in an appropriate manner. Needs to go back to training for interpersonal communication skills, customer service skills, and hospitality management, as he is a walking, talking disaster. All other Bear Mountain staff that I encountered between the gift shop and cafe were absolutely professional, kind and very helpful. Would've given 0 stars if I could because I will never return to the Bear Mountain Inn after watching how intimidating Levon was to his employees and on the sales floor in front of other customers, but will give 2 for the excellent customer service from gift shop staff and cafe staff, and good food and drink in cafe and the cute merchandise we bought. It's not the employees fault that their boss has less professionalism and skills than they do. read more

Most unorganized Easter brunch I've ever experienced. Hostesses and manager hiding from customers, line of people out the door waiting to be sat. Extremely long food lines where you can't scoop your own serving so the lines just don't move and then when you get up there many empty stations. For $67 a head doesn't even include mimosas or bloody Mary's. I will never come back here again. They sold more seats than they can accommodate and it's 95° inside. Never ever again. Nobody is happy! My partner and I stayed here in the stone cottages for two nights and had a great time! The stone cottages are by no means a fancy place to stay - it definitely seems like they are more for people who want easy access to the trails and aren't looking for a lot of amenities. The cottage we stayed in had a beautiful front porch overlooking the lake, and a common area with a fireplace, some chairs, a sink, and a microwave. The room had a refrigerator and TV. The heater in the room was very loud. The walls are also pretty thin. The first night we were there, the receptionist at the main Inn called us a shuttle to take us to the cottages. The second night, there was no shuttle available and the walk was very dark (about 15 minutes). It was kind of hard to figure out which one was our cottage the first night we got there because it was so dark. The location is incredible though, the zoo, carousel, and hiking trails were all really fun! In case anyone else is coming here by Metro North, do not make our mistake - get off at the Peekskill station and not the Manitou station! It was hard for us to get an Uber from Manitou and there is literally nothing around there - no place to wait indoors. (This has no bearing on my review of the hotel of course - just including in case it helps anyone!) read more

Had spent 2 nights in the lodge. Room was spacious and comfortable. The parking lot is a nightmare. There are dedicated parking spots for hotel guests however their use was not enforced forcing us to look around the lot for parking. On one night they held an antique car show in the parking lot which made our desire to leave the hotel for a neighboring town restaurant impossible as we would have to return and not have parking. The restaurant service was non existent. Took 15 minutes at the table to be recognized by a waitress when our food was delivered by the waitress that was the last time we saw her. Had to seek out an employee to pay the bill. Food mediocre at best . The hotel grounds were occupied by day trippers from NYC who brought their own gas barbeques to prepare their food. It appeared that English was not the first language for the majority of the day trippers. Overall, save your money and don't waste it by staying here or eating in their restaurant. read more

The rooms, though old, are clean and large. The 1915 restaurant was a disaster though. We had Thanksgiving dinner there. The buffet line was so long that we never did get to the carving station for turkey. After dinner, the dessert line snaked around the whole room (ONE table for hundreds of guests). We never ever did see our waitress until we were finished (with our cold uncooked vegetables), yet they charged us 18% AUTOMATIC gratuity (remember, we NEVER EVER saw a waitress). Then they charged me for somebody else's dinner (which had more people). I tried to correct it with the woman who, as it turned out, was our waitress). She returned with a corrected bill for my table, but also with a voided credit card receipt that did not have that 18% gratuity in the refund. After a LONG time arguing (it appears incorrect billing was a common thing that night, probably because the servers never served people), I gave up. Somewhere out there is a person who paid for only two dinners instead of his family's, and a server who got TWO gratuities, one of which I am paying for on some other guy's server. I hope he had good service. It's one Thanksgiving I'll never get back. No sliced turkey, no pumpkin pie, and oh, they had no gravy. read more

We came for the hiking on Bear Mountain and stayed a night at the Inn this past weekend. Compared to the reviews below, I loved it! Though the exterior clearly needs a paint job, the Inn itself was super cute. The rooms were decorated with a rustic touch that added to the feel of staying inside the park. They were even able to accommodate when I asked for a walk in shower! There were some small things that could have been improved: one of the lightbulbs in the bathroom was burnt out which made the room kind of dark, the elevator stopped working a few hours after check-in, and there are limited dining options because the restaurant was closed, but the all of the members of the staff were great and the bed was super comfy. I can't wait to come back once the restaurant opens up again in April! We met the manager in charge of the reopening and you could tell he was extremely excited about it. 4/5 stars for Bear Mountain Inn! read more

I will absolutely never stay here again. I can find much less expensive hotels to stay for a night but I gifted this to my partner and it was not the relaxing getaway we'd hoped for. No one seemed to understand how to utilize a gift certificate and everyone I spoke to blamed the girl who checked us in saying "she's new and doesn't know what she's doing". Which is a terrible thing to do, to throw an undertrained staff member under the bus. She was told to have us go to the room and wait a half hour for the manager to call. I waited over 90 minutes and no one called. I went to the Inn to find someone and no manager was present. I was told he'd be in in the morning so I came back and no manager again. Apparently my issue was beneath him and didn't care to try and fix it or make it better. I even emailed him and no response. What a shame because the location is incredible but I wasted almost $300 that I can't get back because no one cares to make this right. Oh and just to top off this experience, we were so hungry by the time we got back to our room and had given up trying to fix this. I wanted to order food from 1915 and go pick it up but no one answered the phone. And the vending machines in the lobby of the lodge were practically empty. Rented their Marry go around, one year for son's birthday. This business chairs to use only their servers (no other permitted) - at the time, other groups sharing, so your sectioned off into an area. All you guests had to pay to park. Then the bus load of children, brought from the city, ate to much - results-cleared, the merry- go -round. It a place to enjoy nature, a cup of Vic or coffee. Just got back from Bear mountain Inn. I loved the view from our table! The servers were very welcoming and my omelet was perfection. We brought 2 primary school children and they found food that they liked and we enjoyed the buffet but the chicken was dry and the salmon was very nice. Firstly, there was only one waitress for the room (poor thing), then there was a family with two boys that were running around and talking so loud that it filled the room ... while the parents just sat there and did nothing. It might have been nice to have a room that looked over the pond (since we were in the overlook lodge). Our room overlooked the parking lot. We didn't think to ask when we were checking in and you drive down around the circle by the highway to get to your room, and it was freezing, so we didn't go back and ask for another room. It was nice that the common area had a fire going every night. There was only about 30 seconds of hot water each day. It's basic room, a frequent travelers room with a microwave and mini fridge. Booked this stay through Hotel Tonight. Have since deleted that app as a result of this stay. We stayed in "the lodge" which is unattended. It immediately felt like a secluded college dorm being used for a summer camp. Halls smelled like a hospital (Good? They're very sterile rooms? Bad? Someone's dissecting a cadaver on the second floor?) and the view (it's called the "Overlook" Lodge after all was disappointing to say the least. Issues: Desk staff was all completely unsure of how to handle a Hotel Tonight booking. For check-in AND check-out and I was seconds away from having my card double billed and having to wait 3-5 business days for a refund (not the end of the world but annoying when you're traveling). Room was not dirty but it definitely wasn't what I'd call clean. Lights in the bathroom fad a thick coating of damp dust. There was a bug on a lamp shade (living - the bug, not the lamp shade), dead bugs stuck to the ceiling in the bathroom and some mold visible in the corners of the ceiling in the shower. The faucet on the bathroom sink was poorly chosen as any time you interrupted the water flow (hands, toothbrush, etc.) it would flood the counter top and eventually the floor. Lots of peeling paint on the doors. VERY loud in-unit AC and external HVAC units. Noisy neighbors (clearly not the hotel's fault but another annoyance during an already trying stay) and annoying bright lights throughout the room on devices. Please have realistic expectations- this is a facility in a State Park. That being said, I had a fantastic time. I was surprised by size of my double queen room- had a fireplace and living room! It is outdated, the lighting isn't ideal, WiFi is meh..it was also built in 1915 so I'm impressed that it's still in operation. I sincerely appreciated that you could buy alcohol and snacks in the lobby, that the staff are friendly, and that there is actually a place to stay in the gorgeous state park. Another plus- the pillows and blankets were cozy... the toiletries are not basic (nice stuff). And there are only 15 guest rooms in the inn! It's intimate. Those who are reading this- you may wonder why I would give this place a 5- well I am taking into account that this is a historic hotel, placed in a setting that is worth every penny. Remember you are there for what is outside! A precious escape from asphalt and tall buildings. A place to breathe mountain air. I was glad the WiFi wasn't perfect- my kids actually had to look around them and soak in real life. We explored the carousel, climbed rocks, enjoyed the playground. If we had more time, I would have loved to take a hike around the lake and show them the zoo. What a great place to bring kids! I should also mention that my family lives on Bear Mountain so I have been visiting the area for many years. This was the first time staying at the Inn. Excellent place for a nice retreat. Beautiful views all season round. Great hiking trails and rustic feel. There is so much history in this area. Booked a two night stay with them for Aug. 4,5. The booking was made several weeks prior. Now, 7 days before the booking dates we are informed that they have been closed and will be closed for our dates. We have already made arrangements for house sitters and animal sitters that we will have to pay anyway. Why would they wait sooooo long to notify us of the closure. For me, the key was to make this a day- trip with a friend. And to take out time in the gift shop. We came here with no expectations. So naturally, my friend and I were pleasantly surprised by how sunny it was in a chilly day, how many people were walking about the lake, and how alive the place was. (We think there was an event going on, but couldn't tell what). I left with salted dark chocolate, cinnamon honey butter and and some serene memories. My husband and I recently stayed here (at the actual inn itself) for a couples weekend. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and experience. The main lodge where we stayed is very nice and we enjoyed the wilderness vibe they having going on. We enjoyed walking around the lake and exploring the small zoo in the park. Also, at one point, I ended up getting a massage at the spa, which was excellent. Also, the spa staff were very friendly and accommodating. We also enjoyed going for late night walks and seeing the deer in the field. There were some minor issues though. I will list them here: 1. At one point, we were without hot water in our room/floor for about 12 hours. They did fix it and did refund us some of our money but, still, we were paying a lot to stay there. We noticed it as soon as we got back from walking around and we were all sweaty. 2. When checking in, they told us that we could get 10% off at the cafe. We were under the impression that this meant 10% off our entire order but, when we actually went to the cafe, they told us it's actually 10% off the cheapest item. So we got $0.30 of $3.00 bacon. 3. We had a very bad experience at the gift shop. For one thing, they didn't have much of a selection and most of the clothing items were only available in small or x-large sizes. Also, the staff were rude and seemed stressed and overworked. When purchasing our items, we were not asked if we were staying at the hotel in order to get 10% off. We ended up having to cancel our purchase, "return" the items, and then check out all over again once we realized we could get a discount. Another staff member came over to help the lady that was checking us out. She asked us what the problem was and we explained to her that we were not asked if we were hotel guests. Her response was, "Well, if we asked everybody that, it would take too much time." What?! It takes about 2 seconds to ask someone, by any chance are you staying at the hotel? (This was a rude thing to say. Also, if you don't want to ask people over and over again, you could always put up a sign on the counter that says hotel guests get 10% off.) read more
