It was the best hotel experience of us - not in terms of 5-star facilities but hospitality and guest services! The manager Andrea, texted us before our check in time and kindly gave us the directions for the hotel&parking lot. She was extremely friendly and nice to us during our stay. We booked the room with the bathtub instead of the one with river view, but then my fiancé wanted the one with the view. Surprisingly, she was sooo generous to let us choose that one and use the bathtub of the other one! You definitely can't have such an option at a chain hotel! She was also so nice to give us suggestions for dinner at local places and sightseeing. The hotel was nicely designed and well decorated, and clean. The walls were pranked by their own paintings and the rooms were decorated with vintage stuff! We loved it! And when we got up in the morning our breakfast was ready for us! It felt like we were staying at a close friend's house or grandma's :) Also, you will be able to use kitchen and living & dining room areas. Get your book and enjoy the silence! If you're looking for such comfort, don't hesitate to go there. We will definitely be back.

My husband and I received a gift for a pasta class at Casa Hudson. We knew it was a bed and breakfast and had attended a birthday party here 2 years ago. We found it interesting that they were now holding cooking classes. It was a Wednesday evening and we arrived at 6:30. Andréa the owner greeted us at the door and walked us to the kitchen to meet Rosetta and Socorso the husband and wife chef team that would be our instructors for the evening. The second couple arrived and since it was BYOB we opened a bottle of wine and made a toast to begin the evening. I never knew making pasta from scratch can be so much fun and bonding. I felt like I was in Italy with my Italian family making a meal together and enjoying laughs, stories and wine. And I'm not even Italian! The staff was amazing and the chefs were warm, friendly and patient! I learned a few Italian words and how to use different pasta making tools. Andrea stayed with us the entire evening along with another warm and friendly member of the team Stefano who shared photos of his home in Italy and artwork that he had created. I learned so much about pasta making and have a whole new respect for those that make fresh pasta regularly. We made 3-4 types of pasta and made a huge bowl of all types of pasta to go with the amazing sauce that Socorso and Rosetta had made! (Going to the sauce class next time) we all sat down at the table like a big family at Sunday dinner and enjoyed our pasta, with a nice salad, bread and wine! A family member even showed up at the end of the evening and we pulled up a chair for her to Join us! Just like in Italy! All in all this was a 5+ experience which was very private, authentic and fun! We will be back soon!

The Villa Casa Hudson amazing doors at first, then the art gallery my room upstairs overlooking the Hudson river.

Went for the Holiday Tea with my two girlfriends- it's a Christmas time tradition for us. We've…read morebeen to other wonderful Victorian Tea Houses, and figured we would try Bricktown. I will say the home is beautiful. Otherwise, very disappointing: 1. We were greeted by two young ladies (dressed in ripped jeans and sweatshirts) who showed us to our table - a card table with folding chairs jammed up against an old stove. They took our coats. 2.The tea wasn't brewed - it was a pot of hot water with various tea bags served on the side. 3. It was a preset menu of finger sandwiches (cheese/chicken salad/sliced turkey); 3 scones; Christmas cookies. A Dixie cup sized serving of soup, served with plastic spoons. Water was served in plastic cups. 4. One of us is vegan, the other dairy intolerant; we asked for other menu options- they brought out sliced cucumbers on stale white bread - there was no pumpernickel or other type of bread available because they ran out. 5. After 90 minutes, they started to clear the place out, gave us our coats and the bill ($90.00), and began to break down the tables around us. Absolutely terrible that they charged that kind of money for an experience that was one step up from a lemonade stand.

I stayed here when traveling to Bear Mountain with my husband. We had a great time. The house is…read morereally nicely done and very comfortable. There is a lot of attention paid to detail. The hosts are not overly friendly, but they are extremely helpful and not intrusive. There was a really nice outdoor area with a Koi pond, but it was too cold to check it out. The food was good. Each morning they serve a hot meal with some bakery item, along with juice and coffee/tea. Cereal was available for those who would like it. Snacks (cookies, and pretzels) were also available in the common room anytime, as well as sodas and coffee or tea. Cream sherry and ice water are placed in the room daily. My only complaint, which is why they received 4 starts instead of 5, was that our mattress was kind of on the hard side. I won't up with a stiff back the second day I was there. The town was interesting. It's has a large immigrant blue collar population, and people were friendly. There were some very good restaurants that our hosts at the B&B suggested and we had great meals. A farmers market is open during the summer and we got to meet some town people there who were very nice. The price was average for a B&B but a little pricey for lodging. We would stay there again.

As the summer was on its last legs and with a busy fall at work right around the corner, I wanted…read moreto get away. With a little luck, I managed to book a room for two nights during Labor Day weekend with only about a week's notice at the Botsford Briar. I found it on the internet, having never before been to Beacon, a little escape I had planned because of hiking, kayaking, the Dia: Beacon, the boat to tour Bannerman Castle, and Main Street were all within walking distance. I arrived quite early on Saturday via train and headed up to Main Street. I had a kayaking tour reservation and had planned to do that before checking in at Bostford Briar. However, when there was some miscommunication and the tour left without me, the folks at Mountain Top outdoor store called the proprietors of the Botsford Briar (yeah, it's that small of a town) to see if I could check in early. And all was well; they were happy to take me early. My room was ready and I headed over...and up the rather steep hill of High Street. Charlie met me halfway up the hill and insisted on taking my bag the rest of the way. The house is charming and looks just as it does on the website photo. Inside, it's filled with curiosities on the first floor. I met Shirley there too. Throughout my stay, she and Charlie were wonderful. They took the time to try to find an alternate kayaking solution for me, suggested restaurants, went to the trouble of having my breakfast ready quite early on my last morning there since I had to leave before the normal time, etc. I stayed in the Wisteria Room, which was lovely. The bed was comfy. There were a couple of chairs as well as a table with two dining chairs with bottles of water on a tray. In case it was needed, there was an AC unit. Lots of sunlight could come in through the generous windows (though you could pull curtains and shades too). Wifi was free. The TV wasn't a flat screen, but I didn't watch it so, who really cares? The room had wonderful charm and was clearly lovingly decorated. The bathroom was a private one down the hall. However, they've thoughtfully added a curtain one can pull to really make that whole wing private (so you don't feel odd walking to the bathroom in your pajamas; nobody can see you). I loved the claw foot tub and had a nice soak each night. It was a large bathroom with nice towels and was meticulously clean. I spent a good portion of both evenings watching the sunset on the beautiful shared deck out back. It's at the top of High Street and you can see down and across the Hudson River. It's beautiful and a wonderful quiet spot (or a place to chat with other guests, as I did the second evening). Also shared for the guests is a small room with a fridge, cupboard (thoughtfully stocked with glasses, wine glasses, corkscrews, etc.), and a single serving coffee maker for anything you wanted to make or store yourself. Breakfast was quite generous. There was one freshly baked (and still warm!) item each day along with other breads, a fantastic fruit plate, juice, and coffee. The only thing I would have added would have been a hard boiled egg or something so that I could get in a little protein. But with what was provided, I really wasn't lacking at all in nourishment. It's brought to your room at your chosen time on a tray. The location is great. It's easy walking distance to the train station, Dia: Beacon, boat launch, and Main Street. It's within walking distance of a trail head for hiking as well though you should know that it's a long hike in itself up Main Street to reach it. I'm so glad I came to Botsford Briar to get away. It's so clear how much love (and personal talent/handiwork) Charlie and Shirley have put into the place. And they really take pride in making it a wonderful retreat. I wouldn't be surprised if I found myself back there again when weary of the city.

The decor of the room and the b&b are not my particular taste, cluttered, heavy fabrics, heavy wooded furniture. Taste is subjective though and I could imagine another person may enjoy. The air conditioner is positioned in such a way that it blows directly on the bed. I found sitting out on the deck to be noisier than we hoped for...can hear the train whistle and cars on a road in the distance. The morning breakfast spread had coffee, juice, pastries and fruit, none of which were of the best quality. I only met Charlie who was friendly and very helpful. I spoke to a woman who I believe is the owner by phone while booking and when we were likely to arrive after their 9pm time limit and our phone personalities did not mesh well.

I stayed here because I wanted to be away from the masses and crowds, and the Waterstone Inn fit the bill perfectly. The inn is literally across from the lake, so makes for a perfect summer or weekend getaway. The inn provides kayaks and canoes free of charge to go out on the lake. I communicated with Maureen before my stay and she was very quick to answer any questions. She was an absolute delight to converse with throughout my stay. She mentioned they weren't sure if they'd reopen after 2020, but they invested more money into the property and made some renovations to make the place more comfortable for guests, despite being an older property. All rooms/suites have a private bathroom and locks for privacy. I stayed in the spacious Bradford Suite on the 3rd floor, but all the rooms they offered seemed equally delightful to stay in when I took a peek. The place is so small and cozy that I didn't encounter any other guests except during breakfast hours (I think only one other room was occupied mid-week). Breakfast is included and is delicious...the food is freshly made to order. There are plenty of places to sit for breakfast whether it be a couch in the lounge, the window-side tables with lake views, or the front porch. The nautical and lake themes throughout the property were very well thought out and tasteful to give you a "getting away" type of feel. The porch area is welcoming and the perfect place where you can enjoy spectacular views of the action on the lake. The property has a parking lot on property directly adjacent to the inn which always felt safe and secure. The town of Greenwood Lake on the NJ/NY border is very cute, and was the filming location of a lesser known recent movie starring Morgan Freeman called the Magic of Belle Isle. All staff I encountered were amazingly welcoming, so I wouldn't hesitate to run as small businesses like these deserve to be supported.

The homemade breakfasts were so savory and yummy and let me not forget to mention the unlimited coffee, tea and lemonade that was provided throughout the entire stay. The location is close to many restaurants, shops, and the beach. We had fun kayaking out on the lake. Kayaks and canoes are available on the premises at no additional cost.
