Reverend Jim is truly the best we could have asked for! Our wedding was in New Rochelle close to where I grew up, but I planned it from where I live now in Milwaukee. Rev Jim was super flexible with Zoom/Skype video chat meetings because of this, and I even had the opportunity to visit him for an in-person meeting at his home when I was in town at the Beacon Hermitage. I must say this is a beautiful, stunning, and artsy property if you get the chance to visit! We worked with Rev Jim for a couple of years leading up to the wedding where he provided us a questionnaire for my husband and I to fill out separately with some personal questions about our relationship so he could learn more about us as a couple. I highly recommend taking this seriously as he was able to truly personalize and incorporate our love into the ceremony this way! Rev Jim also provided a document listing the different types of ceremonies to select what suits us best. We aren't the most religious, but wanted a little mention of god's blessing to appease our family, and he nailed that. He was also very accommodating with having a couple of family members conduct a reading, as well as allow time for my step-sister (who is a musical theatre professional) to sing at the beginning of our ceremony. We also decided for our unity ceremony to do the handfasting which truly "tied the knot"! During our reception, we received so many compliments from our guests on his ceremony, and even had some friends ask if they can use him for their wedding! Rev. Jim was an absolute sweetheart and a great host. He was very generous and helped us get into the town by driving us because we didn't rent a car- which definitely saved us some money. also was nice to see the town that way- and he also let us know we could visit the Blue Barn, where we had breakfast in the morning. The property blew me away it was so beautiful and also eclectic and unique with statues, flowers, and a running creek/waterfall right on the property. The room was very pretty & comfy and I felt safe there. We will definitely return!!! My partners birthday went perfectly. Thank you!!!! read more

Beacon Hermitage is centrally located along the Hudson River Valley making day trips in any direction easily doable. Beacon Hermitage itself is a well tended, clean safe haven offering wonder and art inside and out. When staying there it affectionately becomes "home" immediately. The owners live onsite and are caring, thoughtful, friendly, sincere and genuine. They will go out of their way to insure the comfort and well being of their guests. In most cases you get what you pay for...here, you get so much more. Loved it!!! read more

This gem is nestled at the foothills (I don't know if that's the right mountain language) but it's near the Breakneck Ridge Trail in the Hudson Highlands. This adorable house is also an 8 minute drive outside of village of Beacon/main street, and Hudson Valley Brewery. The hosts Jim and Joe are lovely guides to this quiet escape from the city. Joe offered us great dinner recommendations in Beacon, and even drove us into town. The house is eclectic and adorned with a beautiful collection of fun/funky artwork. I mean literally the walls are covered frame to frame with unique pieces. We stayed in the blue room (shared hallway bathroom) and enjoyed a peaceful and siren free night of sleep. In the morning we snacked on some muffins, fruit, and Scottish black tea. We enjoyed exploring the grounds around the house which included chickens, a pretty stream/small waterfall, and many lawn "creatures" ornamental items. This included a sea saw and life size crouching tiger. Before leaving this sanctuary we ran across the street to enjoy a 2 mile hike through the forest and down to the train tracks. There were easy to navigate and mostly clear paths, which included an interesting collection of old glass bottles. Thanks Joe for a restorative weekend! read more

This is a unique property with a unique owner. If you're looking for bland and ordinary don't go here. If you want your lodging to be integral to your Hudson Valley experience you've found your spot. Warm, welcoming and homey after a long day of sightseeing. The owners, Jim and Joe, will go out of their way to accommodate your needs and wants. And they are open to suggestions of how to improve your stay. I "found" this place the first time because all other affordable places were booked. When I return to the Hudson Valley this will be my first choice. A real gem! read more

The Beacon Hermitage is the most wonderful hidden gem and the absolute highlight of our recent getaway. Jim was a warm, friendly, and accommodating host and felt like more of a long-lost friend than someone we were meeting for the first time. The house was splendid and warm, one of a kind. Everything was perfectly clean and comfortable. Jim made us bacon and eggs on croissants for breakfast (eggs fresh from his own coop!) with coffee, tea, and a side of a yummy and fresh pineapple. I wish we could have stayed for longer - we are already talking about when we can return. There was a sign in our bedroom hanging on a door that said, "Spread a little happiness." My husband and I stayed with Jim and Joe for five nights. We cannot say enough good things about their B&B and their hospitality. Our stay was fantastic. The grounds were very pretty and located directly off of route 9D. We were served a delicious breakfast every morning (which isn't typical, normally you get continental breakfast during the week). The frittata and porridge were our favorites! Both Jim and Joe were very hospitable and our conversations were friendly and easy. We only have good things to say about our stay and we would visit again in a heartbeat. If you're looking to stay in the Beacon/Cold Spring area, you cannot go wrong with staying here. My boyfriend and I stayed here in May 2016 for a long weekend. Jim was very helpful and the place was beautiful. We came during second Saturdays which meant that Beacon's art galleries were open late and provided free wine and cheese! The vegetable frittatas were awesome and it was really sweet that they brought out a cupcake for my birthday. They even lent us sweatshirts to wear when the weather became cold. We would absolutely recommend staying there! read more
