A quick climb up the ladder to the fire lookout will take you back into history with old letters and photos of what this land once was! It was too hot to read through everything when I came up so I will have to make more trips. The road going up is filled with holes, large holes that your whole car will dip into. I took it slow at first until another car passed me and I found the right technique for my subi. Yea a subi can definitely make the trek but just be gentle on your cars and enjoy the journey! The hike up is all stairclimbers. It's definitely not a walking trail for a casual stroll; it's strenuous but very fun. I felt I was in great cardio shape while hiking but my hips and knees definitely made it harder. Stairs made of stones, stairs made of wood, and the last bit leading to the lookout is all hopping over rocks and even pulling yourself up. Bring your hiking poles and it'll definitely help! $5 for parking without a Discovery pass.

The trail is very well marked which is always a good thing if you have not been on this hike. The elevation is not bad but there is some up and down throughout the hike. This is a hike that is suitable to young kids since the paths are with some single track, some wide paths and not any dangerous obstacles. There are a couple muddy areas and I think the Winter and early Spring would make this hike rather mucky and a bit more challenging. The rewards along the way are precious with beautiful views of the river, mountains and moss filled trees and not to mention the lime kiln towards the end of the hike. If you are looking for a fun hike that is moderately challenging this is a great Summer/Fall and probably Winter/Spring a little more wet and muddy.

It would have been gorgeous to see the white rocks untouched by jerks who don't appreciate nature. I don't understand it. I think that it would also be too dangerous for people to clean up the rock, and the remoteness would make it hard to take action against repeat vandalism. There were plenty of migrating salmon making their way up the river. It's a great spot to spend some time in nature.

Some really breathtaking views and nice to escape some summer heat. Our guide Luke was super personable and very knowledgeable not just about the River but the surrounding wildlife and culture. As well as the regions surrounding the cascades. The conversation and jokes make the trip extra memorable. I recommend it.

Throughout our trip we saw: egg yolk jellyfish, sea stars, crabs, harbor seals, blue heron, and a mussel farm. As an avid kayaker, it was nice to paddle unhurriedly and enjoy the scenery. Moreover, the tandem kayaks were easy to use. A big thanks to Sue and "the other guy" who took care of us from beginning to end.

They make these little stops along the river and tell you about the area. Blair the owner is a saint and will make sure your time on the river is the best that is possible. The Guides: James Michael is the best looking man in a wetsuit that ever lived, and will keep you safe. Robin is a motivator and is good with people that are meek or first timers.
