Nice lake, the rest is a disaster…read more The listing says there are 115 acres of nature trails (elswhere it says 120 acres). Prior to my visit when I asked about a trail map, there was no response. Upon arrival at the property, the only trail I was told of was the one that led from the cabin to the lake. This is very misleading, A big part of the reason I booked this place was the nature trails. Post-visit I was told no one has ever asked about a trail map before. Over 100 acres of trails and no map or markers or signage except for the lake trail. That's ridiculous. The cabin needed cleaning. There were spiderwebs in bathroom. Webs in the corners of the bedroom ceiling, a cobweb hanging from the ceiling. These webs looked like they had been there a while. The ceiling fan was covered in dust. I booked a cabin to be able to have use of the full kitchen. The microwave door handle was hanging on by a thread. It appeared someone had previously attempted to fix it with glue, which obviously did not work well. The shower handle came off in my hand, but I was able to put it back on. The toilet was running and then stopped working. Eventually, someone came to fix the toilet. The next day, the toilet stopped flushing again. The kitchen window did not close all the way, allowing bugs to come in. The screen of the screen door is not attached, and the door does not close flush with the door frame. It was not possible to have front door open because there was ample room for bugs to come in. The listing says "Peace and Quite!!! Very Private". It was not private, it wasn't even quite quiet. There is a good amount of streetnoise, the cabin is set very close to the road. Bring earplugs. Private? No. It is a very short walk to the playground because the playground is directly across the street. A fence separates you from house next door, clear view of their home and yard. Not nearly as secluded as you'd think. They asked if I would not leave a negative review in exchange for a refund. I don't do hush money. People deserve to know what to expect from this place.

The decorations in most B&B's don't really appeal to most people in their mid-twenties, especially male. I wanted something historic but decorated in a way that wouldn't make a young, Manhattan-based couple feel out of place. When I came Catskills Escape, I was hooked. The 1865 farmhouse is restored beautifully and decorated with simple elegance. We stayed in the Ginseng Room, which had eight windows (eight!), a secretary desk I wanted to take home with me, and a bathroom with a claw-foot tub. The photos from the website were accurate, though I found the room even nicer than the pictures implied. The owners and their children were very welcoming. They made us a Grand Marnier Soufflé for breakfast, served alongside homemade granola and fresh fruit. Randy, one of the inn-keepers, pointed us in the right direction for a walk where we saw newts and deer. He also let us know about the Franklin Farmers Market, which we visited Sunday morning. At his recommendation we tried the cardamom twists, which were delicious. I'm already trying to come up with another excuse to go upstate and stay at Catskills Escape again.

Fell asleep to the sound of the wind in the trees, and woke up in the morning to a wonderful breakfast of homemade granola, yogurt, and blueberry pancakes. Home is lovely, but a little on the formal side. Owner is very attentive and eager to please.

The spring thaw with rushing waterways and baby animal sightings, the summer in the valley's green glory and beautiful fresh mountain air, the vivid Autumn colors that are to die for, or the winter wonderland of snow covered pines and icicles - all breathtaking, rejuvenating and extremely memorable! ...I love waking up here! ...sipping my coffee, and gazing out at the beautiful mountains and valley. There are so many comfortable areas to kick back and take in the essence of this house and its surroundings - the porch overlooking the forest and little babbling brook, the gazebo overlooking the mountains and valley with green pastures and picturesque barn with grazing animals, the stunning vaulted great room, and the tv room with big tv and comfy sectional sofa. The house is newly renovated and charming with the modern conveniences of a brand new gorgeous kitchen, new bathroom with a cool steam shower with lights and music! The beds and linens are super comfy too! Besides lounging around the house, my favorite things to do are hiking at the trailheads just a mile or so down the road and exploring the brook next to the house. I also love filling my water bottles at the nearby mountain spring - an ever running faucet! Love the Catskills! Love the mountain air! If you're like me, you will miss it before you even leave the Blue House on the Hill and think when can I come back!?!
