Let me start out by saying that the Bear Camp Cabin staff are so wonderful. They are so kind to talk to and they really go out of their way to make you feel at ease when discussing issues with them. Also, the views from the cabin are amazing! Just as pictured! ... We did have several major issues throughout our stay. Our first full day, the water was out for 7 1/2 hours. Our second full day, there were 4 leaks in our main floor bedroom, after the guests upstairs took a shower, making that shower unusable the rest of their stay. Our third full day, the water went out around noon again (so we had to use our bottled water to fill pots to make pasta) and I don't believe it came on again until the evening. I was honestly shocked that no one ever offered us reimbursement for anything, considering how much extra we had to pay for food because of the water issue.
... Other issues that we had and things that are important for guests to know. There were only three stools around the kitchen island and one of them had the seat completely detached. There were only five chairs around the dining room table. So there is only seating for eight. ... There is not a bar height table with stools in the upper loft. The one in the basement/game room is there. ... The single pull out bed in the game room is unusable. ... The theater room is not a smart TV, so you can only watch DIRECTV, their very few pre-recorded movies or DVDs that you bring. The TVs in the bedrooms all had to have some special code to get in, which we did not have. There were also batteries missing in some remotes. There are no lights around the hot tub, but there is a plug. You could always bring string lights if you would like some lighting there when you use the hot tub in the evening. ... Check the driveway and make sure there are no work vans there when you go outside. Someone surprised me when I walked out onto the lower deck in a robe my first morning there. My children, who were out on the deck alone until I walked out, thought the person was blowing leaves, but I never confirmed that. After I walked out in my robe and he surprised me by saying "Hi!", he was gone within minutes. I called the office to tell them about this, and they were just as confused as I was. ... Four of the five bedrooms have curtains with magnetic holders. None of the other sliding doors have curtains. After that man just popped up, with his head able to look over the lower level balcony, I moved the curtains in my bedroom down to the bunk room because it doesn't have curtains. The magnetic holders have caused a lot of issues with the door frames, mainly peeling paint. The curtains fall off a lot as well, so we were constantly having to put the rods back inside the curtains themselves. ... Bring coffee filters if you like coffee. The large brewer does not have a reusable filter. ... There were baby wipes and bottles directly below the back decks. No one came by and cleaned those before we got there, the "leaf blower" did not clean it up either. Just look up instead of down and the magic of the view will still be there. ... Whoever cleans the lodge, seriously needs to do a better job. There was food and drink residue on the leather couch in the main living room. There was some sort of red sauce in the slit on the dining room table. Gum under the top bunk bed. There is a lamp in the living room that has a base that's split in half, just resting together, which should have been discovered when dusting! The stool seat being completely detached should have been noticeable as well. Finally, know that the bedroom walls are crazy thin. My husband and I slept in a room on the main level and my daughter slept in a room on the main level as well. When I was in the room above her, setting things up for my sister who was supposed to arrive that next morning, my daughter started screaming for me from the bedroom below. She thought she heard someone crawling around in her room and she was scared to death. I thought she was just overreacting until the next day my sister and her family did arrive and two of her daughters were in the room above me. It seriously sounds like someone is walking around you in your bedroom. If your light is off, I promise you that you will turn it on in fear at least once.
*** Some good things. Tons of drawer space to put clothes. An extra blanket, sheets and pillows in every closet, in every dresser and then in other little drawers that you find around the cabin. Beds are crazy comfortable! The two on the main level are huge! Great decorations! Tons of pots and pans, glasses and utensils. Theater room was so fun for the kids! Great games!! I'm not sure the air hockey table was actually blowing air, and one of the handheld things was missing the red cozy that makes it comfortable to hold onto, but it was fun to play! ... We never went to the pool or the pond, but it was nice knowing we could have! read more
