Came to Bear & Kilt on an early Tuesday afternoon to relax and get some down time. It wasn't too crowded and there was plenty of space available, the music playing was good too. Ordered a Wild Rose IPA and some Bear Bangers. The Bear Bangers were unique and tasted really good, I'd highly recommend it to anyone looking for some light bites with their drinks. The server was friendly and attentive. If you're looking for good food and drinks at a dive bar, you'll definitely have to come here, prices are affordable and not over the top.

Great Pub, friendly staff, and really good eats. Had some wings and (huge) nachos with a couple of drinks, before walking back to my hotel full & happy. Whenever in Calgary, I'll be sure to go back here!

One of my friends can't meet up for after work drinks until 5:30pm and so I'm always looking for happy hour deals that go past 6pm. This place has weekday $10 meal and pint daily deals from 4pm - 8pm (and 12pm - 8pm on Saturdays). Perfect! They also discount a bunch of their drinks by $1 for happy hour so a $6.50 local pint becomes $5.50. But you should probably splurge on the extra $4.50 and get some tasty food. The first time I went here was on a Friday and tried their fried pickles and pint deal (note: the deals come with any local pint, I recommend their Wild Rose options) for $10. Tasty! I haven't had many fried pickles in my life but these were right up there and I recall the chipotle sauce being extremely tasty. The pickles are normally $9 so really you're paying $1 for a pint! I went here last week for their Thursday night special (steak sandwich and pint). Firstly the steak sandwich alone is normally $14. And it's pretty tasty, which explains why they didn't have many left by 6pm so get there early! Plus it comes on garlic toast with mushrooms and fries. Mmm... Plus the place is a total dive, but in a great way. They have a bunch of old booths that look like they have emerged from someone's basement - that were previously rescued from grandma's house. The service is always good, never amazing but it's got a great relaxed vibe to it. Two thumbs up.

The Bear and Kilt is a bit of a hidden gem. Located in an underground lair (sounds better than "basement") along Stephen Avenue mall, I find that even though I know exactly where it is I walk by it when I haven't been in in a while. I like it that way. The Bear and Kilt is pleasantly busy - which means that your crew is not the only one in the bar but you're not fighting to use the pool table either. I guess I like it because it is so relaxed. Sometimes I feel like the clientele is leaning over to the side of hipster and it will change, but then it bounces right back. Maybe my fear is due to the Canadian Hoser woody hudson's bay company everything is forty years old kind of decor they've got going on. It's just enough to be ironic, so I'm gonna declare a hipster alert right now. Luckily the cheap beer and decent food make it a destination for some awesome downtownians too. Last time I was in there were some business looking people, a bunch of rocker looking guys and probably some other people, but the ratio was decent and our party was pretty big so we got some great service. Our server was just lovely, making friends with the guys and only gently ribbing me for sticking with water because I was sick as a dog. I couldn't eat this time, but I can recommend the wings, the philly beef dip, and anything that comes with fries because they are just that good.

    Daily Happy Hour specials.

Don't judge a book by its cover - The Bear & Kilt has a lot more to serve up than meets the eye. The first time I came here, I was pretty skeptical - the faint smell of smoke in the walls, and the dark atmosphere made it feel like it was a pretty run-down place. But the friendliness of the staff and the quality of the food here more than makes up for the lacklustre appearance. They have a decent selection of beers on tap, including some of the local craft beers, and there's always a monthly special menu, on top of their regular fare. I can definitely recommend the pizzas here, and the Yorkshire puddings are deadly. Don't be afraid to bring a group here - there's a few large tables, and the booths all comfortably seat at least 6 people. If you're in for the long-haul, keep in mind they'll also serve up pitchers of beer, so you won't have to keep hitting up the bar or harassing your server.

"Well hello there neighbour!" or next girl waiting in line for an available washroom stall. For real, stall walls, super short. Me, averagely tall. I was happy nobody else was in the washroom with me. Bear & Kilt is another basement bar in C-town.. And yes, totally in the running for dive bar. On a Friday afternoon when everyone else is enjoying sunny patio weather in Stephen Ave, there's plenty of room here. Service is decent but sporadic. Food.. Good if you order perogies, I haven't tried anything else.

Although I've been here 3 times now, I'm treated like family. Very welcoming and attentive service. Open late and the kitchen rocks until 12 am. Perfect for me as a flight attendant that lands at 10. Phil the bartender is the best. Need food or beverage suggestions, he's the man.

Great pub in a cold place. Bunch of things on the wall that make it fun to try and look at in a dark, woody, downstairs, creepy guy looking at you kinda place. Good bar food and Canadians that speak Canadian, Good fun and cool place for a chat. Get the pierogies, you won't be sorry! And if you are. . .I'm sorry.

    THIS is the small soup!

A real pub in downtown Calgary. Should open up the dart boards and make it legit. Good for a few quiet drinks.

Here's what we ordered: Mango boba - surprisingly tart and could've used a bit of sweetness Peanut chicken salad - flavorful and refreshing, with noodles at the bottom Fish tacos with sweet potato fries - the beer-battered fish was crispy and delicious While the food was solid and the patio atmosphere was great, the service really impacted our experience. When we were ready to pay, it was difficult to get our server's attention. My husband eventually had to approach her across the patio, and she processed our payment while standing right there. It seemed like they were short-staffed the day we visited, which might explain the delays, but the lack of attention was still frustrating. Overall, good food and a nice setting, but I'd give it 3.5 stars due to the service issues

Food here is just alright. Fish tacos weren't bad but the fish wasn't crispy at all. The quasedilla "tortilla" was a little thick. The meat in the BBQ rice bowl was pretty good, but the ratio of rice to everything else was too high. The salad was pretty good and quite a large serving. We had A LOT of trouble flagging down our waitress, especially near the end when we were ready to pay, which was quite frustrating and the main reason I'm docking stars. However, I will say the setup outside is really nice. There are hanging plants, pretty large tables, music that's not too loud, and overall a nice vibe. I think for a slow, casual evening out this place will have you covered.

The wine list isn't huge, but what they offer is curated and impressive. We ordered the Wedge Salad and Truffled Arancini. Both arrived about 15 minutes later. The salad was underdressed, and the Arancini, while hot, lacked the tomato sauce that would have elevated the dish. Minor issues, but we moved on. Unfortunately, the main course experience was disappointing. After waiting 45 minutes, our entrees finally arrived--at room temperature. At that point, we were too hungry to send them back and wait another 20 minutes. When we shared our concerns, the staff initially offered complimentary desserts, which felt inadequate given the circumstances. After further discussion, they comped both entrees and provided a $25 gift certificate, which was a fair gesture and appreciated. The GM and Bobby personally apologized and invited us to ask about "little surprises" in the wine cellar next time, which was a nice touch. Overall, great wine and recovery effort, but the kitchen timing and food temperature need serious improvement. Hoping for a better experience next time because the potential is there.

I followed the more than 48 hour rule to cancel the room without penalty and was told that its was during their blackout period and should have read the fine print. I'm really not even sure if that is legal. The hotel takes the full amount of the charge for the room at the time of booking, not at the time of check in and keeps the money regardless of when you cancel if it falls "in their black out period" that is not clearly identified when booking those dates. You better not have plans change or have a family emergency! RIP OFF. Buyer beware, do not book.
