It is the bar equivalent to a punk rockers beaten up grungy party basement. So... basically what I'm saying is - VERN'S IS AWESOME!!! I LOVE VERN'S! Love it, or hate it, and trust me it's going to be one of those two, Vern's is pretty much the 'as real as it gets' music bar for the Calgary music scene. This is the place where beginner bands get there first start and where the YYC music big guns love to come back to to pay their respects and feel at home in their first home. Vern's is where it all comes from. Pro-tip: 100% of the cover charge goes to the bands. I hope you'll find that $5 or $10 split between two or more bands is a pretty small price to pay for live entertainment. The beer is cheap, so after five pints of Alberta Genuine Draft, you'll have more than made your money back, and you'll have had a heck of a good time.

My wife ordered the Sip 'n' dip and she loved it. I think the best choice we made was getting jello shots. Jello shots make any place or night fun. Drinks are well priced and the bathrooms are clean too. The outdoor seating is nice and you can bring your dog. Can you hate a dog friendly bar? I can't.

There are 4 inhabitants of the little town but every last Saturday of the month, the place comes alive. And I mean it really comes alive. Every last Saturday a team of local volunteers put on a pizza night at the saloon. Starts at 5 pm and runs till late. The saloon is a licensed establishment but children are welcome. They have a bunch of food and drinks on special. Ordered my pub grub and a few beers. Conversation with the staff was fun. There were less than friendly patrons who didn't like the only Asian guy in the pub monopolizing the local talent. I'm was there to have some fun and relax - it was a 14 hour day. If the "good ol'boys" take exception to my jovial nature - tough crap for them. The food is pub-food. Lots of grease and flavour - normally hot sauce and more hot sauce. Toss in generous pours of alCOOL and all is fine and dandy. If you would like the pub atmosphere but would like better food, you could ask really nicely to see if they can allow you to order the hotel restaurant food. All in all, minus the locals attitude, this is a good place to unwind. Cheers!
