I like Beans & Bagels all around. It's kind of small in there but they have a decent amount of seating. They also have a pretty large selection of coffee and sandwiches. I tried their gyro which was decent and my son had a half of a turkey sandwich and some fruit which he seemed to enjoy. I actually enjoyed his sandwich a little more than my gyro... The friend who recommended it said she enjoyed B&B because of how cheap they were compared with Starbucks but I honestly felt the prices were comparable. B&B wins in the friendliness and freshness department though. I think B&B is a great breakfast or lunch spot that I would go out of my way to visit any day. read more

The place is cute and the food was good (portion sizes are small and stingy) but the two guys who were at the cashiers today were soooo incredibly unfriendly. We're new to the Frederick area and this place was the least friendliest place I've ever been to in all of Frederick. Doesn't make sense to me...but they made the value for what we paid not worth it. Most breakfast places we've been to we don't spend more than $25 bucks or so. Here we got only one item each and a drink since we were just trying it out and we spent $22. Pretty pricey... we'll keep trying other places around here and see how they compare. read more

Inspired by the fact that the man who wrote the star spangled banner is buried but a few miles away from my house, I decided I would do some learning and check out the civil war medicine museum. After finishing off my tour with a severed arm and some embalming equipment I was naturally hungry! When I stepped outside I noticed the cutest little shop and decided that it was bagel time. Ever since that day I have fallen in love with this delightful little piece of downtown Frederick. This bagel shop, like so many other business in Frederick, resides inside of what must have been an old single family home. The inside is cozy and cute and all of the staff you'll ever meet there are the sweetest. Their bagels are delicious! I've had their turkey bagel, roast beef and the classic bagel and cream cheese. All were delicious. Their drinks are not half bad either. Coco coffee, hazelnut coffee and their mocha were all delicious. Check out this little slice of downtown Frederick. Boo to not having prices and then ripping people off. How does a small Steamed Milk with Almond cost around $3.50. My small coffee was decent and around $1.50ish but their price on a Small Steamed Milk seems very high in regards to everyone else. I even questioned them about if they charged me correctly on the steamed milk. They have one with espresso that seems reasonable to charge that much. The barista didn't seem too interested in us or our questioning of the prices. I don't understand how a place feels comfortable not writing prices down because that makes me not want to trust them. Customer Service should be held to higher a standard. I rarely give one star but I felt frustrated leaving this place enough to give one star. My coffee was so-so and I think Nola across the street would get my patronage if I make it back down to Frederick. read more

Friendliness and being treated with respect is as important as how delicious the food is. The owner of this place demonstrated blatant discrimination, even after being educated on how inappropriate his treatment was. There's a group of us that would frequent local restaurants in effort to support their business. We were to go there this Friday but an incident yesterday morning had us voting to cross Beans and Bagels place off our list of support. To the owner, discrimination is a big No No! Well that was an experience. First time there, the owner basically told me he didnt like my shirt. Rushed me to order I explained it was my first time there. He cut me off in the middle of my order to tell me that they may not have what I wanted but he didnt even know what I wanted. I observed three ppl get the wrong order. As a loyal New Jersey native, I would like to think that I have a fair idea of what a good bagel tastes like. I have recently moved to Frederick from Washington, DC and while there, had trouble finding many places who really "did it right." Moving here, I did not have much hope - but was proven *very* wrong with this fantastic little place. I had a great egg & bacon sandwich on an everything bagel - and all was great. To add to it, it had a really "local" feel, friendly staff, a huge menu, and great prices. Will make this place a staple! read more

This was a lovely little coffee shop that my grandma stopped in for lunch at when we were traveling. The vegetarian hummus sandwich is vegan on any bagel except for the egg bagel(obviously, lol). The prices are also wonderful! read more

On a Downtown Frederick shopping expedition, my sister and I decided to stop in for some breakfast. Ordering was overwhelming. The place was packed and the menus are difficult to read, especially with people cramming in around you. But given the busyness, I was expecting some delicious eats. I ordered the bacon, egg, and cheese bagel with an overpriced hot tea latte. She ordered an egg and cheese bagel with home fries. Our bill came to $20.42, a little steep for a quick eat (especially given the nearby options). When our food arrived, I was underwhelmed. From the price to being cramped inside the tiny ordering/dining areas, it just didn't live up to it's reputation. The sandwiches were pretty decent. The home-fries were mushy. The tea latte wasn't anything magical, but was good. The bagels by themselves were best. I'd probably stop in again for a bagel, but overall I was not impressed. read more

Stopped in during the Frederick Half Marathon. Small place with cozy seating and very pleasant staff. Most of the people seemed like regulars- a bunch knew each other and the owner knew some of their orders. I had a caramel latte and it did not disappoint! Very nice. read more

One of my absolutely favorite places in Frederick. Beans and Bagels definitely has the best bagels in Frederick. The toppings are on both sides of the bagel!!! And of course the price is always right. The muffins and the macaroni salad are also huge unexpected wins. I just can't say enough good things about this place. I'm a horrible coffee drinker...a heavy whole milk with lots of sugar and vanilla syrup type of coffee drinker....and they have always made my iced coffee perfectly! They even have cinnamon syrup instead of the ground cinnamon everywhere else has. I don't have to spend forever at the counter adding milk and sugar to be able to enjoy my coffee. Their food is reasonably priced and good. Definitely a staple place for me in Frederick. Great place downtown for a pick me up pit stop. read more

I stopped in on a whim as I took in the museum across the street. The atmosphere was pleasant with nice banter between employees and regulars... My coffee was quite nice. The bagel was average but I'm not sure that Frederick is known for its authentic bagels so I'll give that a pass. In all, a pleasant way to spend twenty minutes and recharge. read more

I have been visiting this downtown establishment for years and I am always pleased. Service is pleasant and very quick. Bagels are always fresh and delicious. I typically get the lox sandwich on a toasted everything bagel (I know toasting a fresh bagel is sacrilege but I like when the onion and garlic flakes warm up, the flavors are much stronger) with everything on it - onions, tomatoes, capers,etc. and it is amazing. I'd compare it to the many versions I've had in NY. They even have an "egg" everything bagel now which is even better. Enjoy. read more

Perhaps the best sweet coffee I have enjoyed in years. I opted for Beans rather than the national chain and it proved an excellent decision as the combination of fresh roasted beans, espresso maker, caramel syrup, and whipped cream made me ready for a rainy walk. We stopped here to get some bagels and cream cheese. I will say the bagels are pretty good. The cream cheese on the other hand was horrible. We got the veggie cream cheese and it was so salty and you can't taste the veggies at all. We had to scrape it off it was so inedible. This was the first time I've tried the coffee and breakfast sandwich here but it certainly won't be the last. The coffee was absolutely delicious and I'm not sure what they did with that bacon egg and cheese croissant but it was terrific. Best small business is Frederick. I had high hopes coming here because it was so well rated, but unfortunately that was not my experience. The man at the counter was very short tempered with me when I was ordering, and seemed like he was trying to hurry through my order even though there was only one person behind me. I ordered a medium latte and received a small, which isn't a big deal in the grand scheme of things but was annoying following the poor customer service. Additionally, my friend's sandwich had short fuzzy hairs in it. The whole experience was bizarre. Probably would not recommend. The lox sandwich was okay though. read more

I was standing in line to buy a bagel and there were four left. Instead of taking my order, the cashier ignored me and took a phone call. They sold ALL OF THE BAGELS to the caller. I was already waiting to order and in the store. Don't bother coming here in person if you expect the bare minimum of service. It's overpriced garbage. read more

The Greek omelet was perfect and the coffee strong, just the way I like it! Muffins afterward finished the meal beautifully. 2.5. I've been here twice and the experience hasn't improved. The first time we came here it was pretty packed and it got crammed in the small place. The menu has lots of options but we settled for breakfast sandwiches and and egg salad sandwich, the bagels were decent, they used real eggs but the egg salad wasn't great. When I got my coffee it was overfilled and spilled all over my hand and the guy taking orders (assuming it's the owner) was very rude and seemed like you were wasting his time. The second time around, the owner was just as rude and annoyed. The food was decent- the egg bagel wasn't anything special but the egg everything bagel www actually really good. The Costa Rican coffee was pretty good. The interior is nothing short of disgusting. The furniture is mismatched (ransom Quiznos chairs?!), the booth seats are pealing, and the floor is dirty. Overall not a pleasant place to sit so if you're coming here sit outside. read more

I really like this place. If I didn't start my hellacious commute at 6:30 I would probably be down here drinking coffee and reading the paper every morning. It just has such a nice, friendly, comfortable vibe. We come down here for breakfast every once in a while on the weekend. Usually I get a whole wheat bagel with peanut butter, but this morning I had a Western omelette with rye toast. The food is decent; not the greatest, but a lady wearing what could pass as pajamas cooks it up in the back and brings it out to the table. It kind of makes me feel like I'm hanging out at a friend's house and their Mom is cooking us breakfast. I've had so many bad experiences here that I avoid it like the plague, even though it's very conveniently located for me. Occasionally, though, the convenience tempts me to give it another shot. So, this morning, I ducked in and ordered an egg-and-cheese bagel with home fries. Impossible to screw up, right? Wrong. The egg was topped with a film of something that may or may not have been plastic (!). The home fries tasted so strongly of charcoal (?!) that I couldn't eat them. I ended up throwing most of it away. I wish I was making this up, or exaggerating. I'm not. Two-thirds of the time, B&B's food is fine (though unremarkable). But about one-third of the time, something like this renders it edible. I have no idea what's going on in the kitchen. Multiple times, I've ordered a bagel with cream cheese - and the cream cheese has tasted distinctly rancid. They have a reputation around town for having a filthy kitchen. (My old company ordered catering from them once, and multiple people got food poisoning. Not kidding.) Oh, and the coffee sucks. To the owner of B&B, if you're reading this: you (somehow) seem to be doing decent business, so you probably don't care what I think. But, ye gods, man - fire your entire kitchen staff. It should be *impossible* to screw up egg-and-cheese sandwiches and bagels with cream cheese. read more

A regulation hockey puck fell from a drink display, nearly hitting me. No apologies from the guys working there. They seemed more interested in getting their puck back. They made the order wrong, twice, and I ended up not eating, but paid any way. I had put it on my credit card but never got a receipt. I was too frustrated after getting grief (should have paid the $2 for "no grief" as listed on the menu) that I was afraid of trying a third time (not trusting the outcome) or asking for my money back, so I just walked out.
