Grand Cafe Caruso

Overall: A great place to pick up an expensive lunch bill…read more Grand Cafe Caruso used to be my favourite spot for a mochachino, it was pure pleasure - with a delicious mix of hot chocolate, espresso, freshly whipped cream and chocolate chunks. Over time, the mochachino has got weaker with the espresso and tastes purely of hot chocolate. It's a real shame! The last time I came here I ordered a double espresso, the base of all coffee drinks. It's usually the saving grace for me, but sadly it wasn't. I was asked if I would like sugar with it? Huh? This place is a smallish-locally owned business and it does warm lunches/sandwiches, gelato and pastries etc, however they tend to be on the pricier side. The service is usually good and there's plenty of seating, but it still feels bustly! With the Westfield Centre open, my patronage falls with Costa (despite it being a franchise), sorry...

If you ask for a real Italian cappuccino, made with a shot of espresso and creamy foam ( not Hot Milk) you will realise the difference betwwen the buckets of milk they dish out at Costa`s and Starbucks. I often go on Holiday to Italy and always struggle to find an espresso as good as I get here in Derby,I know its crazy but a fact!! If You wish to try a real Italian Coffee look no further,Go Caruso and you will not be disappointed

Although I have never been in to the shop, I used to visit the van when I worked on Pride Park. Their food was good and compared to other food vans, a lot more varied. There was a choice from jacket potatoes, sausage rolls, sandwiches, chocolate etc. The only thing I found quite offputting was the pricing. It was very easy to spend a lot of money with InFusion over a week & it seemed with the posh van that all the money went on their gimicky image. However, the food was lovely & I highly recommend the place as somewhere to go as a treat unless you are rich!

From baguettes, bagels, wraps, paninis and baked potatoes, you'll find your perfect sandwich from a selection of more than 50 different fillings. Infusion is also open for breakfast if you prefer a full English. Infusion is a little pricey but is what you would expect due to the large choice of different fillings. Majority of Infusion's customers come for a takeaway lunch to take back to the office, however, Infusion does cater for those who wish to sit and chat with a hot drink and has a number of tables and chairs in a small eating area. Infusion is very popular in the local business area so during the busy lunch period be prepared to queue. However, service is quick and efficient so you don't feel like you are waiting too long.

We walked up Sadler Gate and looked a few menus on the way. We decided to stop and look at the menu at The Kitchen which had sandwiches, panini, burgers and salads. We stepped inside to a busy and buzzing cafe with solid wood tables and a huge cake counter. A waitress smiled and showed us to a table. I ordered a ham, cheese & caramelised onion panini which came with a handful of fries and a pot of tea. My partner had a Gourmet Angus Burger with chips and salad and a Diet Coke. Our drinks came promptly, my tea came in a pot for one with a cute bottle of milk like something out of Alice in Wonderland. Coke was in a glass bottle. We had a little wait for our food but it does state on the menu that there may be a wait for food on a Saturday due to being very busy. The table were full and people were constantly coming and going. Staff were very attentive and friendly. I was tempted by the cakes but resisted. There was a sigh saying all cakes are made by the boss on the premises. While we were sat there a person I assume is the boss came out with fresh cakes to replenish the empty spaces. I will have to go back for a pot of tea and a cake. We were not disappointed when our food came. My panini was yummy and my partners burger looked and I was told it tasted good. We finished and asked for the bill. It promptly arrived in a butter dish and I went to the counter to pay. It was a lovely lunch and extremely friendly & attentive staff.
