Wow. Spectacular. The setting on the river is a true GEM. The service and personality is adorable…read more I felt at home-a single traveling guy with no distractions, I was paying attention to every little nuance. Beginning with a glass of wine outside overlooking the river, the evening started out brilliantly (the English term, I think, for INCREDIBLE). Corinne was warm, welcoming, and hospitable The Scallops dish, as a starter, was creatively designed, and - while not overly complex and varied - SPECTACULARLY executed. The crispy smokey outside with soft and juicy interior of the scallops couldn't have been better. Oh. Then the Veal Main. HOLY WOW... Nuanced yet rich. Perfectly cooked mid rare loin, dressed with a complex yet subtle combination of Braised cherry tomatoes, Broad Beans, Broccoli Rabe is perfected by the rich and flavorful jus touched with an essence of mint. The perfectly crispy fried, lightly curried onion Bahji adds a perfectly complementary crispy texture and subtle onion sweetness that would be greatly missed in its absence. I am embarrassed to admit, that the Hazelnut herb crumb lightly dusted over the top - while a brilliant design addition - was too subtle for MY palate. Those of you with a more refined palate will be fortunate to enjoy more than I this finer nuanced component. This dish might be the very best designed veal dish I have ever experienced... and... executed BRILLIANTLY. IF You're staying at the Marriott Breadsall... or ANYWHERE in the vicinity... you MUST go to Darley's Make a reservation... if you don't... then don't be surprised if you don't get In. It's THAT good. [OK... I'm done now. I don't know what else to say... other than "I DON'T WANNA LEAVE." ] WAIT... The dessert ("pudding, as they say... I went for the "sampler...INEXPLICABLE. All I can say at this point is... Just TRY IT! OVERALL, in all my decades of travel and seeking out the very best restaurants in the world ... THIS one - almost by accident - rises almost to the top. WEIRD... but awesome.

A little pricey but you are always guarenteed a good meal and the atmosphere always provides for a nice relaxing evening. I know people who will travel miles to visit here and never grumble they have travelled so far so must be worth the trip. A god place to go for intimacy!

We've been wanting to try Masa for some time, after good reports from friends, so a spare Friday…read morenight and armed with a voucher (£40 worth of food for £20), it seemed an appropriate time to give it a try. Set in a Wesleyan Chapel, Masa makes good use of space afforded to its by its former use. Downstairs is a copious area of comfortable seating, were you can sit and have a drink from the well stocked bar, whilst perusing over the varied menu. Not a cheap venue, so we were glad of the voucher; the menu had a sufficiently varied selection of starters and mains, from a tempting duck starter to fish of the day, Sea Bass on the day we visited. We plumped for the chicken wrapped in pancetta and the blade of beef. As our mains were being prepared we were shown to the main eating area upstairs. Initially we were the only diners, but as the night wore on, the restaurant gradually filled, which added greatly to the ambiance. After an aperitif of warm broccoli soup served in a tea cup, and some fresh bread with chilli flakes, the mains soon arrived. The chicken wrapped in pancetta was accompanied with dauphinoise potatoes and creamed leeks; the chicken was moist and tender, and a lovely rich flavour. The blade of beef sat on savoy cabbage, bacon and sweet red onions, with a fondant potato, all in a red wine jus. Again packed with flavour, the beef melted in the mouth. We also shared a side order of cauliflower, mange tout and carrots, a very healthy portion, to accompany my meagre single carrot I got with my meal. Side orders really do irritate me, if you going to sell an expensive main course, give me something to go with it, I don't want to always pay extra for something that really should come with the meal. Rant over! Fantastic main courses, packed with flavour, hopes were high for the desserts. The chocolate and orange crème brûlée sounded perfect, accompanied by shortcake biscuit and a chocolate twirl, with fresh mint ice cream. The Crème brûlée was lovely, a fantastically smooth chocolate taste, but try as I might, the orange flavour wasn't there. The fresh mint ice cream whilst nice, overpowered the rest of the dish too, a shame. My wife's lemon and lime cheesecake, with raspberry sorbet, also lacked flavour in the cheesecake. All in all a good meal, but both desserts didn't quite hit the mark, shame really, as the mains were really rather good!
