When I came back in to use it, they recognized my name from the situation and took the time to talk with me in person and explain everything again. That really meant a lot and showed how much they care about their customers. Customer service and communication go a long way, and I'm grateful for the way they handled everything. Almost every other coffee shop I visit is happy to accommodate this, and it doesn't require much effort, many places simply set the cup on the counter and pour the drink without even touching it. It's a small thing, but it makes a difference for customers who are trying to reduce waste or just prefer using their own cup. They also feature a catering menu with Kenyan items such as Mandazi and samosas. Husband and wife Tweety and Patrice Angwenyi co-own the business. Apparently, they started the company in 2019 by roasting coffee in their one-bedroom apartment. Both owners formerly worked as high school educators before transitioning. Patrice grew up in Fort Worth's Historic Southside. Tweety was raised on a family-operated coffee farm in Kenya. Having lived in Kenya, I recognize him likely originating from an Ekegusii family in Kisii County. The real appeal of the business is the community the owners have built. While I am not part of the culture, their mission is faith-based, Black-owned. The owners define the word "hustle" as an acronym for "Help Us See The Light Everywhere". Beyond serving coffee, they host Saturday co-ed Bible studies, collaborate with neighborhood organizations, and mentor at-risk teenagers.
