I had actually…read morejust visited the Ollie's in Lakeland, which was a little bit better, but I'm trying not to compare the two since they are not close together. This Ollie's has a reasonable selection of books, and I noticed some books here that I hadn't seen at the other Ollie's. All the prices are a great value. My only gripe is that one of the books that I wanted was on a super high shelf, and it wasn't clear how I was supposed to get it, so I had to be creative with how I retrieved the book. I browsed the other aisles but didn't see anything in particular. I was mainly looking for books and excess tea; neither Ollie's had much of a tea selection. The employee that rang us up was nice and friendly, and there was basically no wait, although it might have been because they were closing soon. I definitely think a good value can be had here as long as you're not looking for anything super specific. I enjoy going to Ollie's for puzzle books and coloring books, of which there are many.

This place is a cross between Odd Lots, granny's yard sale and the back room of your local Walmart…read more It's a large chain that pretty much sealed the doom of Odd Lots. While it's mostly general merchandise they sell, one can also find a pretty decent variety of cleaning supplies, personal care products, clothing, bedding, toys, pet needs and even non-perishable foods! Plenty of bagged and boxed candy too. The store seems a good bit cleaner than the Odd Lots that once occupied this space. It's also better organized and has (somewhat) friendlier employees, albeit not all of 'em seem on board with that. Anyway, it dampens the "holiday spirit" of the store. Lots of holiday and seasonal goods for sale too. They got nothing on Robert's Christmas Wonderland on Gulf to Bay, but one of THOSE is probably one too many except in small doses. Meanwhile, Christmas music was playing in the store. Between every one or two songs was another Ollie's ad. Each one of 'em ends with the same phrase as though barked by a group of military recruits... "Ollies: good stuff CHEAP!!" That pretty well sums it up: hook, line and sinker. I'm sure if you looked hard enough you can find THEM too. I myself won't be doing so, but my dear Queen Bee loves the place. To me, it beats the be-jiggers outta Dollar Parlor, Greenback General or Goodwill. That doesn't really say very much, but then again: enough to expect from a discounter for the Scratch & Dent Special Brigade.

I picked a medium-sized shirt from the sale rack outside the store, assuming it was discounted. At checkout, the cashier mentioned he wouldn't charge me for the "printing" on the shirt--something I hadn't even realized was a separate fee. I thanked him, only to be shocked when the total came to $55.63. Feeling rushed because my friends were waiting, I paid, thinking maybe the shirt had been misplaced on the sale rack. But on my way out, I saw another shirt--similar in style--with a clear tag showing $24.99. I went back to the cashier and asked to return the expensive shirt and buy the cheaper one. He refused, pointing to a small, hidden sign that said "No Returns, Only Exchanges." To make matters worse: * He removed the price tag from the shirt I bought. * He did not provide a receipt. * My friends later told me this is a common tactic there and that I may have been scammed. This experience felt dishonest and exploitative, especially for someone dealing with a medical issue and just trying to enjoy the beach. I strongly recommend checking tags carefully, asking for receipts, and being cautious when shopping here.
