Beads, beads and more beads. We passed by Beadworks while looking for food in SoNo. My wife gave me a look and I realized we would be stopping in for a look see. This place has every type of bead imaginable. Even though I am not really a bead person, I found myself so absorbed into all the various pieces that an hour flew by before I even noticed. Its a shame that this little shop is not in NYC because I can imagine spending many a wonderful afternoon with my wife and daughter looking at pieces for their next jewelry project :) read more

Until this experience I was a 16 year long customer of this business. I was participating in a wedding and was tasked with making the jewelry for the bridesmaids. I purchased some special charms from this beadworks; 15-20 dollars each. When I had time to make the items some of the important charms broke. Crystals fell out and I was not able to fix it. This was very annoying because 1. I spent a little extra money on these expecting them to hold up a bit 2. Now I have to figure out jewelry for brides maids before a wedding and 3. I don't have a lot of time to do it. The real issue came when I went to the store to get reimbursed. I was told "certainly that is ours" and "we can reimburse you", so right away they knew the products came form their store. When she looked up the transaction in her computer she asked when the purchase was made. In a normal world I would have no idea, but because it was for a wedding I happened to know the specific date. She told me "Nothing is coming up". Ok so you have a customer who is probably bothered by this inconvenience, you admit to them the item was purchased from your store and product the failed, you admit the right thing to do is issue a refund. As I wait, I am being told over and over again "nothing is coming up". I don't really feel like it is my fault that my cashier at the time didn't properly enter information into the computer. I am not sure it is relevant. Instead of giving a refund, partial refund, offering to fix it, offering store credit, another replacement item or even the bare minimum of an apology I was made to feel embarrassed. I was told (quite rudely) nothing could be done. So I can eat the cost of the charms and my time. Just to be clear, the issue was not the price, or the broken product. The issue was the abysmal customer service afterwards. Oh, Beadworks, you've been in this same teensy SoNo storefront since my childhood, so I'm understandably fond of you. Every time I'm in Norwalk (and feeling crafty), I head over to rood through the massive selection of beads, pendants, and pre-made jewelry. I get way too sucked in to the huge "treasure chest" bins, but the staff is extremely helpful in giving advice on jewelry design and color combos. I'd love to take a class here one of these days! read more

Solid selection for all levels of skill but a great "treasure chest" option for kids in need of Summer fun. The staff are helpful with design, tool sourcing, and they've even hot a room for you to do work with a little direction from their experience. I was surprised by the premises diversity of natural materials and really taken by wood, stone, and gems in general. I think in all the stores like this I've popped my head into this is the best, even better than their other newly opened store in Fairfield, CT. read more

I love working with jewelry, it's my passion and, actually, profession. Anyway, I go to "Beadworks" every once in a while and have never gotten a bad service. The prices are too high (I spent around $50 at GLASS beads for a necklace, it's way to much, easier to buy a necklace) but the people are very nice. Mostly young girls, always friendly and helpful. Maybe previous reviewer was at the "Beadworks" before Christmas or other holiday, when retail businesses are getting very crazy, so staff didn't have time to pay as much attention to one person... read more

Just had a birthday party for my daughter at this place tonight. The owner was very rude to both the kids and the adults. Not only was she nasty but she also rushed everyone throughout the party. The owner and staff had a terrible attitude right from the start. I absolutely would NOT recommend this place at all to anyone unless your willing to pay for horrible service. read more

This shop is small but full of great supplies! I like the location down in SoNo where you can shop for beads and fixings then have lunch. It's tricky to find parking on the street and don't forget to pay the meter. There's also pay parking at the lot by the aquarium across the street. The people who work at the shop are very helpful. If you need something fixed and don't want to attempt doing it yourself they have a repair service for a charge. For a jewelry maker this is a nice resource. read more

I've been coming here since I was about 10 years old and now 15 years later it's still just as fun! The selection is amazing, even looking for the most out-there design or color combo comes easily. I really want to find the time to take one of the classes since I always seem to wind up with more beads than I know what to do with. I brought my niece and 2 kids here. Ages 10, 6 and 4. They had a blast. The staff was very nice and very helpful. They've never been to a place like this before and they answered every question and directed us where to go and what to do next. It was maybe $70.00 for 3 necklaces with 5-7 special beads each. The kids spent about an hour picking out the beads and then making the necklace. I loved it. I could see going here for something fun to do on a girls night before dinner somewhere. It was fun with the kids too. Park in the maritime lot. I parked on the street around the corner and ended up having to pay a $25.00 ticket. read more

After years of looking for a replacement of a necklace I lost, I stopped in to see if perhaps I could recreate it myself. The staff was friendly and helpful. They helped me pick out the materials and even gave me a mini lesson to get me started. An hour later I walked out with a necklace even nicer than my old one for a very reasonable price. I got a greeting at the door, was given some space to search out treasures on my own, and someone politely checked in on me after a bit to see if I needed help while I wandered aimlessly staring at their huge inventory. A perfect shopping experience, now if only I could make a necklace. read more

The one employee had a horrible attitude. I went in to get a necklace restrung. She looked at it and said "I can't work with this"and walked away without an explaination. In the retail industry we should always have a "this is what I CAN do" attitude. Her coworker was extremely nice and proceeded to help. When I went to pick up the necklace the employee that previously was not the most understanding dealt with me.She was texting on her phone the entire time and was extremely unprofessional. read more

After two bad experiences at Beadworks, I decided to write this review. A few weeks ago I went in with my ten year old daughter, just to look around. I had signed us up for a basic beading class, and asked the young woman behind the counter what kind of jewelry would be made in the class, and whether there was a choice of items to make. She barely looked up from what she was doing, and answered that she really didn't know what the class was like but no there was no choice. She made the whole thing sound utterly unappealing. Today I went back with my daughter and niece. They were very excited to look in the "treasure chest", a large chest filled with various beads with a sign on it saying that they are priced from .05 to $1.00 (tbd by whomever checks you out). In the past when I have taken my daughter, she has filled a small bag and we were usually charged a dollar or two. Today, after the girls each picked perhaps two dozen beads (mind you, these are not current, cream of the crop beads-they're leftover and discontinued beads) I was asked in very unfriendly manner "Is this it?" and charged ten dollars. Now, I'm sorry, but that just rubbed me the wrong way. Besides being rather rude, really? You're going to charge two excited little girls ten dollars for a handful of old stock? I asked the girls to put some back and was then charged five dollars. To be honest, after these two experiences I have no desire to give this store any more of my money. I'm amazed that in this economy any business feels they can afford to treat ANY customer (no matter what they spend) with such apathy and rudeness. read more

Horrible, horrible experience. Unless you take a class or are a regular (maybe?), the staff is less than friendly. I was a brand new (almost) customer, and was treated very poorly. The staff, which seemed to be comprised entirely of teenaged girls, was unhelpful and very unprofessional, and I noticed them being flat-out rude to one of the customers. Apparently they are unaware that there are plenty of other places to buy quality beads. Skip this one. The selection may be nice, but it isn't worth the awful customer service experience. read more

I've been dealing with Beadworks for at least 5 years now. There are a few beadstores closer, but I prefer this store for the quality and prices. I am not looking for a friend, but the employees have always been courteous and helpful to me! I have even referred other people to them. read more

I was in this store a few years ago and promised myself not to go back and I haven't. Their stock is different but overpriced. If the store is crowded, you can't move around very comfortably. The staff was disinterested and not helpful at all and rather snobbish. Too bad Beadworks, in the last 3 years, I've spent literally thousands of dollars on beads at bead shows, craft shows and on the internet. You're the loser here! read more

Yep, the store is great, but don't try ordering online. Yep, the staff does what they can to compensate for the online issues, but if you, like me, can't get to the store, you are better off ordering from somewhere else. Inventory is nowhere near correct. Shipping amounts are not correct, and there is a lot of back of forth on the phone just to get you the things they do have for a reasonable amount of shipping. The staff hangs in there and calls and checks and calls and checks but its a waste of time for them and frustrating for me. Real time inventory is no big deal these days and shipping by weight or cost is a simple website tweak as well. I have no idea why they aren't even close to up to speed. So the store and the staff rock, but the website is in the dark ages. read more
