consistently full of interesting things and surprises. good turnaround of merchandise, so i think i could probably go there everyday and not get bored. i like that you can bring in your things and they give you the verdict asap so potentially you can bring the clothes you dont want (if they dont suck) you get store credit or cash, and can get newer better things within the hour without having to spend money. that is my kind of shopping i think they are moving. they definitely need more space. and as a bonus, the last time i was there a little boy walked into my dressing room when i was trying on a dress. good times. read more

the first time i brought clothes there, they purchased the second time, nope. today i brought in a marc jacobs dress, only worn once, a neverworn, cashmere sweater dress from metropark and a neverworn black and white bubble dress that i purchased at a boutique in London. upon leaving, the girl said to me, "thanks for trying." the worst part about it all is exiting--noticing all the worthless bullshit they are willing to purchase. wack. read more

Like most other chain vintage stores, this place is hit or miss. The selection is def not as good as the Williamsburg location, but I have found some gems at this place. read more

I love this store. A few years ago, I got a crazy purple, gold-embroidered jumpsuit for halloween from here. And in the last few weeks, I bought like 7 summer dresses, including some barely worn free people dresses. I also bought a really nice vintage leather bag. I'm not sure what everyone is complaining about. They do have a lot of junk but if you spend some time sifting through it, you can find some really great items. I even tried on a diane von furstenberg dress, which was in pretty good condition but was too open for me. I've had more luck with dresses and the occasional top here than anything else, and I would never buy shoes at a thrift store, but this place has been good to me. I also love their jewelry. read more

This store is a hit or miss. I have shop and both sold here. I have had awkward experiences and great experiences. I have learned to visit the store knowingly that I may or may not find that perfect missing item for my closet. I have shop there knowingly that the associates can be very much petty at times and to brush it off. I have sold there knowingly that my items are well worth more that what traded for but settle because I no longer wanted the items in my home. Now for other well known trade store "BE", I may pout over. But this store has set a tone for me. I don't expect anything more or less. Overall it's a great store. read more

Honestly, every time I order something online from BeaconsCloset.com I am never disappointed. Their items are not only at very high standards for thrift stores, but their collection is always unique. Highly recommend~ read more

So after my first experience here I was pretty unimpressed by the staffs aloof attitude and "hate you already" demeanor, almost thought about not wasting my time going back, but after my second trip here, I've come to realize that everyone's really just hanging back, doing their own thing- I think the selections pretty great, there's a lot to go through and definitely some pretty good finds, I got a mint dvf blazer for $19.99- I think the condition of the items along with the quality/brands are what makes this place great- the prices are good also. - moral of the story- don't be offended, their probably not gonna pay attention anyway - just do your thing. read more

***If manager reads this, please find out who I am talking about. She was at buying section around 6pm on 9 Feb. She does not even realize what she is doing, and would do same thing to other sellers/customers. You see some comments on staffs are extremely good, and some are extremely bad here. In my case, some are actually really nice and pleasant, but it is always same staff who annoys me. Management should notice who I am talking about. When there is one extremely rude employee among nice staffs, it naturally ruins the review. I feel sorry for the rest of the nice staffs out there.. I was going to sell my Miu Miu heels on 9 Feb, but forgot my ID. But the girl who was at the buying section at that time nicely told me that she would take my heels with ID, so I came back same evening just to try to sell it again with my ID. I do not live in that neighbourhood. There was an another girl at buying section and told me she would not buy, I told her why I came back, but she did not take my heels. Miscommunication bet workers happens but What made me upset most was her attitude(second girl). Just rude and too blunt for the customer. She did not apologize for their miscommunication( or whatever the problems that caused this), did not even appreciate a customer for coming back. Their business is solely depending on sellers .I was poorly treated by a second girl. She should find another place to work, I went back to there just to feel bad. Really bad experience. I normally enjoy shopping here, so they do not reserve 1 star, but she really ruined my night. read more

I had a difficult time deciding if I should give this place two stars or three. How about 2 1/2? Anyways, this place is a hit, but most likely a miss. I've come in here countless of times looking for something in particular or just browsing. I enjoy their jewelry and nick knack section more than their clothing and shoes. I feel like they don't offer much options, and you'll be lucky if you find your size. The customer service is like any other store similar to Beacon's. They barely acknowledge you for the most part...doesn't necessarily mean that is a bad thing. I prefer the Beacon's Closet in Manhattan, but that isn't much of a difference either. If you have never gone here, it is worth a try to stop by. You'll find some nice, sort of nice, bizarre pieces, but don't expect to find a treasure of gold. read more

I like it here. They have really quirky items here. If you're plus size you won't find a bunch though. I've seen better prices at goodwill and other places.the shirts are $15 on average. I remember buying about 3 items and it cost me $56. That's alot in thrift store language. But anyway, I think this is a very cute store with cool selections. read more

My first time here the other day. I have to agree with the previous reviewers that I dont get the hype about this place. They have pretentious hipsters that work there who think they know soo much better than you do. They low ball everything you sell them. I'd rather bring my stuff to a thrift shop/donation spot than have them make $ off my stuff. And the stuff they're selling are mediocre at best. read more

They're cool, not good for work clothes for adult females, but definitely great if your a mid 20year old on a budget looking for clothes to go out on the town in! I've sold to them on occassion, it's pretty easy going process. read more

This location is terrible!!! It is not only small, but it's slim pickings and the staff are incredibly rude and arrogant. Yes, it's a thrift shop but if I wanted to buy clothing that's damaged or smells bad...I would dumpster dive. I've made more than one attempt to sell good quality, designer, and gorgeous clothing to them over the years and every time I go they tell me they can't buy it right now it's not in season but I could donate it...???? Sure, I'm just going to leave my expensive gently used clothing with you for free so you could probably sell it anyway? What kind of scheme are you running? For anyone who truly believes they donate it, I feel bad for you. The staff needs a class on customer service and how to talk to customers properly. I want cheap clothes not a cheap attitude. I would not recommend this store to anyone with an ounce of common sense. read more

Beacon's closet, it's fine, just fine, I shop there often , i dance tango weekly, and i am always in need of a party dress and this is the place where i can get a decent outfit at a budget. You do have to be careful and check every detail because after all, it is used up clothes, But so far i am pretty content with this shop, i got an almost new winter coat, (with a few missing buttons )but i can sew, no problem. Thank you, and i hope you stay in business in Park slope, forever. read more

I have been going to Beacon's Closet for years! A great place to sell or trade clothing (especially when I was on a student budget). Even though vintage shopping could be a hit or miss, I always manage to walk out with something I love! I haven't gone to their store in a while since I moved out of town but I still use their website and find great pieces on there as well! read more

I finally visited Beacons for this first time and I have to say I was not impressed for a store with such a high standard of what they decide to "buy" they could at least have a better selection to live up to their own hype. I also wonder what they do with the "donations" Having said that I think I rather visit the Williamsburg store where at least the hipsters are closer to the real deal and not settling for some mediocre imitation retail position, read more

I can only confirm how incredibly rude the staff is at BC. Did they ever hear of customer service??!!! You might be inclined to give them a pass if they were somewhat knowledgeable about current or vintage fashion and knew how to price items accordingly -- but they are dumber than dumb. They can't tell the difference between Hermes or H&M! I know these are hard times and people need their jobs, but they are only giving BC a very, very bad reputation. read more

There are lots of granny clothes. I had fun browsing around with my sister and I managed to find her a pair of decent combat boots. We tried on these medium length 80's or 90's type of sweater but it made us look like hockey players. The salesgirls were minding their own business. I like that better than people who pressure me to buy something. Maybe you'll find something wearable maybe you won't but it's fun to stop by. read more

This place is beyond pretentious. I'd say maybe 5% of the store is geared towards men, yet when I ask the management and employees, they say they cant buy enough clothes for men. A complete and utter joke. I bring bags of designer clothing in size Large (one of most common Men's sizes) of brands like Guess, Marc Jacobs, Adidas, Pierre Cardin, etc., in great condition, some never worn, and still rejected. The biggest irony is, a handful of the clothes I bring there are clothes I bought there the prior corresponding season, yet the "sh*t don't stink police" (girls buying behind counter), give me the same "these aren't the styles we are looking for right now" meanwhile the crowd of 3-5 guys hovering over the 2 minuscule racks of clothing, only to find nothing and walk out. Also the place is completely in disarray. At the very least they could organize the men's shirts by size, so I know what I'm working with. Lame, and frustrating. They are too cool for themselves, and blatantly bad at business. I have finally had it with this place. If you are a guy who doesn't just buy red plaid flannel shirts, brown 70's pants, or globe trotter sneakers, don't even think about wasting your time here (save yourself being condescended). Go to Buffalo Exchange in Williamsburg. Buffalo is easier to navigate, has a fair 50/50% men to women's clothes ratio, and they actually buy clothes from you. I bet Buffalo Exchange has far more turnover and more revenue. Last word, get over yourselves hipsters, life is too short to be obsessed with only "looking like the past". read more

I've been shopping at Beacon's now for about 5 years. I travel in from out of town probably 2-3 times a year and sell clothes and pick up a few items. It can be hit or miss... one year I walked out w/ a mink wrap for $25 that was in perfect condition and a huge leather Cole Hahn tote bag for $30. I've also left with absolutely nothing. Part of the trick to a successful trip to Beacon's is timing. Ask them when they put new items out. It used to be on Tuesdays, so the selection dwindles during the week. If you're selling clothes, go earlier in the day and try to go during the week. If you go on a Saturday you are much less likely to get anything for your wears. They get lots of traffic on Saturday and they can only take in but so much inventory at one time. I usually try to limit the items I bring to less than 10 and I specifically look for "Beacon's" looking items in my closet. Example, this weekend I'm bringing in a pair of gold running warm-ups. If they don't take your item today, that doesn't mean they won't take it next week. I have a jacket I took there 3 times before they bought it. Have a game plan, less is more and be patient! read more

Cool place. I found a lot of great buys, and my friend got an amazing deal. She found a Rebecca Minkoff bag for $50. It still had the tags on it and everything. I'm excited for my next trip there! I also traded in a dress which I got $8 for. I bought a whole shopping bag of clothing. I would not recommend for trading in your clothing. However, the shopping is great. read more

Zero organization (aside from shirts - dresses - skirts - pants - men's). My shopping experience at other buy-sell-trade shops has been substantially better where there is some sort of organization. By color. By size. Long sleeve/short sleeve. Anything would be better than the "all-shirts-all-together-shopper's-responsibility" style they function in. Sure, I'll do the work to shop in a vintage-thrift shop, but not THAT MUCH work. Throw me freakin' bone, Beacon's. Cute accessories at nice prices. (Which are organized. You can do it! We know you can!) read more

This place is always jammed packed with clients who are just as pretentious as the clothes they seek to buy. And the staff! Rather rude and snobby, they basically look down on you if you don't bring them any "hipster worthy" clothes to sell at jacked up prices. I like that they donate the clothes they don't want to either goodwill or the Salvation Army, but still...did you really think no one would want to buy my brand new (tags still on it) button up shirt from express that I purchased two weeks ago, but you think is "old and worn"? Gimme a break. read more

This was my favorite location when I lived in NYC. It was right down the street, they had a great selection, and it was not as big as the other locations. When I moved I hated leaving this store the most, but guess what...They are online. I frequent the online site very often. I hesitate to mention the online site because I want to keep it to myself, but I just made and received my order and I am so pleased. When I shopped in the store, I focused on new/like-new pieces. I also veered away from the vintage pieces and the pieces that resembled what the everyday person wore so I would only end up with 1-2 pieces a visit. Similarly, I do the same on the site. I check the site daily but I just made my first purchase in a few months. The thing is, they list new items daily and the items leave fast so if you want it you better get it. The only thing that hurts which I did not worry about when there is the shipping charge UGH! But anyway, I received my items and love them. I feel as if I have the beacon where I am located now and when people say where did you get that I can still say "NYC." I miss you Beacons!!!! read more

Great selection of thrift/vintage pieces, at affordable prices. Somewhat shambled organization of garments, but otherwise a very good vintage store for anyone who likes odd pieces and forgotten gems of the past. The Beacon's in Greenpoint is also very good, but much larger as well as a lot more organized that the one in Park Slope. Both spots are well worth a visit, though. read more

WAST OF TIME!!!Walked into the store with 3 bags of clothes. Thought I would get rid of some maybe even all, store seemed very diverse in fashion. They took nothing. Oh no wait they offered me $9 for a pair of Timberland boots.. Such a rip off place. Girls there were rude to customers and to each other. Do not recommend this place! read more

So I have been to this location numerous times to shop and noticed their men's clothing is terrible. Literally nothing interesting or still in decent shape. Having worked in retail for years I have amassed way too many clothes. I went their earlier today with a full duffel bag and garbage bag full of clothes. Pants, t shirts, button ups, sweatshirts. All size 32s medium and larges (most common sizes) All from name brands in great shape, even samples of clothes that never came out. Some of this stuff was never even worn. They said to come back in 45 mins. When arriving back at the store, they said thanks but weren't interested in a single item. Brought about 100 items total. After looking in the bags once I left, I noticed every item was in the same exact spot as I packed it. THEY NEVER EVEN LOOKED. Totally felt judged because of a raggedy shirt I was wearing. I WILL MAKE SURE TO TELL EVERYONE I KNOW ABOUT THE TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WORSE SELECTION THIS PLACE OFFERS. read more

Usually I don't write reviews but I was lead for this store. The staff was not the friendliest from the moment I walked into the store. I am African American and it was my first experience ever at selling clothes. Granted I did not read the reviews prior to my experience, I did not expect such blatant disregard which was clear because I am black. no they did not purchase anything which is okay, but the attitude that came with it was very rude. The buyer had an attitude as if buying from a black person was beneath what they are about. I was appalled and completely caught off guard. No would NEVER spend my hard earned money there nor try to sell there again. read more

This location has some cute little fines but if you're interested in selling anything forget about it. Don't waste your time hauling any large bags down there. You'd be lucky if you sell anything. I went in with a Nicole Miller dress that was from a fall collection (which is what they were accepting at the time) and I was told to bring it back in the summer because it was a lace see-through although it had long sleeves, heavy thick lace and it would be way too hot for summer. She then offered me $18 on a pair of $700 Valentino glasses after she talked bad about them saying that they were falling apart and miss judged one of the pieces that actually comes in and out. She also said that the arms were loose when that's just something you tighten with a glasses' screwdriver. I declined it and decided I'm not going to bother bringing anything in here anymore. This store has changed drastically over the years when it comes to items that they actually except. Your items have to be basically unwore/brand new and what you get for it is soo modest it's better to try and sell it online. read more

I love cheap, vintage clothes and all I'd heard was "GO TO BEACON'S CLOSET" so finally I went. I have to say I was very disappointed. The endless amounts of racks were so overwhelming and, although everything was probably up to $35, it just looked like a stoop sale; like going to my best friends' annual clothing give-away. It's too cheap looking, too and while I love fashion, it was definitely not the look I was going for. read more

great place! this is one of those thrift stores that still sells their clothing at a very low price. its very hard to find western style boots at thrift stores for less than 40 bucks. at beacons closet i found an almost brand new pair of brown leather boots for only 18 bucks. very good place as long as you dont mind some of the stone cold looking sales people...with the exception of the guy with the tats at the counter, hes pretty cool. read more

I went there today and was severely disappointed. The first time I ever went, I was with my three friends who all bought something. Me being the picky shopper I am decided not to buy anything though a few pieces caught my eye.My friends seemed happy with their purchases so I decided to test the waters today. I agree with most of the people who've reviewed, the customer service leaves a lot to be desired. I wasn't yelled or swore at but the vibes there were really negative. I tried selling a few items, which included jeans from H&M and items from Forever 21. I thought what I brought in would fit right in with what they sell, but they didn't take anything. I have to say though there were a few good pieces but the they were overpriced. And the rest of the items that weren't up to standard were stained and out of fashion. Their jewelry is nice but no anything I can't get at Urban Outfitters albeit at ten times the price. If you want to check this place out be prepared for attitude and a so-so selection. read more

The first time I went here, I was a bit disappointed that I was only able to score a dress and two scarves, but one of my friends was able to find BCBG heels for under $20! I went back today and was totally addicted to all of the cute clothes. I found an Alice + Olivia dress in perfect condition for only $18.95!!!! (The retail price is $495.00! What a deal!) Along with this I found a cute pleated scarf for $4.95, a new, tags-still-on Roxy skirt for $9.95, a cute Nick + Mo skirt for $11.95, and a cute, subtle yet shiny skirt for $14.95! I'm not so crazy about the staff; they could be a bit nicer to the shoppers. Other than that, I can't wait to go back! I'd say that the best time to come is in early Spring, when all of the lovable, totally-worth-it stuff starts to arrive. read more

This place is just awesome. It kicks all the other Beacon's Closet's asses. You need to root through racks, but there's something for everyone. I can go in there when I need a black blouse and get a black blouse. For like $10. No dresses are over $20. I've gotten Frye boots, perfectly broken in for $25. Killer vintage silk maxi dress for $17. Shop here first. Then go to the other second hand stores on 5th (there are a ton). I come here from Williamsburg where the same stuff is way more $$$ and picked over. Best selection and customer service hands down. read more

Ahahahahahahahaha. Excuse me. Please don't think that all these negative reviews are from bitter, non-hip folks who are just pissed that Beacon's wouldn't buy their untrendy crap. This place is god awful. Please remember that used clothing, especially in this neighborhood, has BEDBUGS!!!!!!! BEEEEDBUUUUUUUUUUUGGGSSS!!! AHHHHHHH. Just a thought. And whereas there is some quality control that's done in a place like the Goodwill, at Beacon's they seriously must be high, because I've seen clothes with unmistakable period stains, visible cat hair, and as one other reviewer stated - pubic hair stuck inside pants!! Again, I must ask: Beacon employees, are. you. high? If you are even the LEAST bit environmentally sensitive or have an allergy to ANYTHING - dust, any animal, cigarettes, god-awfulness - do not even set FOOT in this store. But to top it all off, and this is why I began this post laughing - is that this place is running a SCAM. That's great - you know all those clothes that you bring in and they won't take, so they offer to "donate" them? Well, sure, many may get donated. But my friend had that happen - dropped off a bunch of things, and called to find out that they hadn't taken anything. But then the next week, went in and THERE WAS HER SHIRT! FOR SALE! Unmistakably hers, as she'd made some DIY alternations. Truly unbelievable. Like, they were really too greedy to give her the $1.23 or whatever? Wow. read more

After dividing giveaway clothes into a new/designer pile for resale and a pile for Goodwill/donation, we took a huge bag of things over there, and found out they didn't want anything...allegedly. Later we discovered, THIS PLACE HAS A SCAM GOING. You take clothes there to sell, they say they don't want them, give you the opportunity to "donate," and then you find your stuff on the racks. Pretty evil to call it charity and then profit off of it. If they are going to continue this practice, then they ought to call it like it is and say "we won't pay you for it, but you can donate it to US if you want us to take it off your hands." As an aside, the people working there are rude, pretentious, and profoundly unprofessional. Sure there is some cheap, cute stuff for sale, but the experience is so crappy and the scam is just dishonest and shady. Wish I had read these reviews and hear about all the racial profiling...won't ever go back. read more
