It's no Balducci's of the north, if you are familiar with the store that was on 6th and 9th in the Village. But, it does carry a wide variety of hard to find products and specialty ingredients. There aren't too many grocery stores in the village of Beacon. It has become gentrified and touristy in the last several years.

Some items that I like to purchase regularly are 50% more and one item is actually twice as expensive. Then their produce department is a shambles. The greens are hours away from rot, there's mold on the fruit and the apples are frequently soft and mushy. So I make a 30 mile drive to Whole Foods to get what I really want and use Key Food primarily for toilet paper. They should rename the store, "Key Toilet Paper." This scathing critic aside, the staff is lovely. There's a market for a good grocery store in Beacon. Key Food is a real disappointment to the community and should be replaced by something much better.

Also their sandwiches are very good but very small. $16.95 got me a pulled pork but it was served on a Martin's Potato Roll, which while tasty is tiny. They're not even using the "Martin's BIG Potato Rolls" just the small regular ones. The sandwiches come with chips for free or fries for an upcharge -- But the chips are homemade and frankly way better than the fries! That said again it was good but for the price the sandwiches should be much bigger. They were dog friendly and very nice which we loved. We will be back soon!

I found Otafuku Okonomiyaki mix for two servings. I wasn't expecting to find it at Walmart! The company has been around since 1922 and is still family owned. They fed the populace after the war, when things were really bad. I know people who lived it and listened to the stories. I've noticed many foods, on the shelves that used to be found only in specialty and ethnic markets. It's becoming more interesting to peruse the store.
