Time to replace my roof, but guess what? There's a roofing materials shortage!
When the roofing contractors I'd received estimates from said it could be several months delay due to a materials shortage, I contacted the manufacturer, who not only confirmed the delay, but was unable to provide any ETA at all. After receiving this disappointing news, I decided to take matters into my own hands & proactively contact several different roofing supply companies myself to check each location's inventory. I'm serious about getting my new roof, y'all.
Fast forward to Beacon Building Products. As one of the largest & oldest distributors in the industry, Beacon specializes in building supplies such as siding, rain gutters, decking, railing, etc., & of course, roofing. Product availability varies depending on location, so call ahead. They have several locations, but the Gardena location was the most helpful to me. If you're in the market for a new roof, they carry residential & commercial roofing materials including tile, regular composition shingle, metal, specialty luxury & designer shingles, & more. The helpful gentleman I worked with at the Gardena location checked the inventory for my desired materials throughout the entire state of California, & informed me of each location's availability based on my needs. Although there was still a delay of a few months locally, he informed me that as a last resort I could get the materials shipped from Northern California for an additional freight fee.
Helpful tip: If you're looking for hard-to-find designer &/or luxury roofing materials, check to see if your roofing contractor is flexible & will be open to you purchasing the materials directly from the roofing supply company...up-front. This "hard-hold" will help to guarantee your space in line, & will help to ensure that you get your pre-paid materials as soon as they come in. It also helps to ensure that your roofing contractor is charging you based on what you actually need...no excess fluff.
As luck would have it, I found out that another local supply company was able to obtain the materials sooner (without an additional freight fee), so I ended up purchasing my materials directly from another company. Although I did not ultimately purchase from Beacon, they were very helpful, & I would not hesitate to contact them again for building supply products when the need arises for my next project.
