I tried Beachcomber Tavern while I was in town for work and I am so happy I wandered in here. The bartender, Jim, was very welcoming and made me feel at home even though I am not local to the area. Some of the locals were hanging out at the bar and were quick to make conversation. I couldn't think of a better way to spend my afternoon than having a couple brews at a low-key bar with good vibes, which is exactly what Beachcomber offers. This place is strictly beer and wine, but there is a pretty great selection available. I stuck to the Angel City IPA and was a fan of the flavor and hoppiness it had. They do offer free popcorn to snack on while you drink, which is a nice touch. They also have a large TV above the bar, which was playing baseball when I visited. Now this place is interesting. If you don't know where you're going, you're going to miss it. It's located in a beach type neighborhood and if it wasn't for the neon signs, I would have thought it was just another condo. Inside is great and not what you would expect from the outside. Place only has about 10 or 12 bar seats but has some comfy couches in the back and random seats throughout. Good beer selection, I recommend the sour that was on tap. What really made the place great was the bartender gave us popcorn as soon as we sat down and that there were things to fidget with everywhere. Bar top games, mind teasers and a rubrix cube. Amazing and cozy little bar in the middle of a neighborhood. They have a decent selection of beer (ipa included), wine and liquor. They have bar seating, and a few tables and a couch in the back. They also give out games to keep the social atmosphere fun. The only downside is the lack of food, as I tried to order the only thing available is chips and free popcorn. They at least keep the popcorn flowing!! I recommend this place after a dinner out or as a hangout after work for happy hour. They honor military discounts as well. read more

Cute little hole in the wall bar. We stopped in last Friday for a glass of wine and some beers after having a BBQ at a friends house. Walked on the beach in the sand on our way there, just a few blocks down from their house. Small crowd but we were there late and stayed until last call. Everything you could want with a casual beach bar. Locals, nice atmosphere very friendly bartender who talked to us all night like we were friends, owner was also there and sat near us and took music requests from us right up until last call. I was very excited to find out that this place recently opened under completely new ownership. Me and my friend were out and about yesterday and it is right down the street from where she lives, so we decided to go in and check it out. That is when I met the owner Jim. They were having a "painting party" last night but that was just one area of the bar, the rest of the bar was open for business. We found our spot at the bar and we both ordered a beer. I was glad to see that he had a decent selection of IPA's on tap. They also appear to have a nice selection of wine by the glass and some you can only get by the bottle. They carry some food like a cheese tray and desserts and he hopes to expand that soon. We really enjoyed ourselves. Jim was a very nice man and great conversationalist and made us feel very welcome. Jules was behind the bar also and besides being beautiful, she is a sweetheart and we met a patron named Carter who was SO nice! They served us free popcorn to soak up the beer and they had a Touch Tune music machine so I could hear some tunes while relaxing. It was fun to watch the people painting a sunrise (I think) while we were having our drinks and I might have to sign up for the painting class should they do it again in the future. Came in after moving down the street to get a drink and wifi. Sat in the back of this smallish beer and wine locals hangout. Bartender/owner Jim was great, made sure our free popcorn stayed full, gave generous pours and called me by my first name after taking my credit card. Classy move and place, and Im sure we will be spending some time in here! read more

The decor is so cool and I love all the games and gadgets to play with. I was very pleased that the Tavern reached out and asked us to perform for them, again - the last time Randy and I were here it was a very enjoyable time. And when the entertainment has fun, the audience will too. For the uneducated, this is an intimate, casual, friendly, nicely decorated neighborhood spot, just a few steps from the beach in Oxnard. Jim and the staff are just amazing and they made us feel at home - that's something you don't get too often these days, and it was much appreciated.The clientele is adult and well behaved, but they have fun and enjoy the hominess the place provides. They have a great selection of beers and wines, and Cheese plates and hummus available, as well as free popcorn. Perfect hidden gem out in the neighborhood. The people are friendly, super chill atmosphere full of locals and regulars. Never gets too rowdy, perfect for a late night cap when you're feeling cozy or just want to watch the game and enjoy a beer. It's small but it never feels small, they have popcorn to give for snacking on and small games to play with while you enjoy your beer or wine! Not just one or two selections, but a variety of them. My favorite local bar for 25 years! Been through a lot of change and owners but it is getting better with the current owner. The best years were with Ellie and the Sunday Bring your own covered Dish and all of them would go on tables. There was an incredible BBQ and the food was excellent! You can tell the owner really puts a lot of thought into the presentation, selection, and upkeep. There's also lots of fun entertainment to pass the time while you enjoy a delicious draft or glass of wine: three versions of Jenga, puzzles and other brain challenges, plus some nice photography books you can peruse while sitting on the most comfort leather couch I've ever sat on in a bar. I have lived on silverstrand almost 40 years , the first time I went in with the new owner it must of just been closing time he yelled at me WERE CLOSED , I left thought wow maybe he had a bad night , the ,2 ND time it was someone else behind the bar a young man he had a bunch of his friends in their an said we're closed so again I left this time with my 3 friends , tonight my refrigerator went out so I thought maybe I can buy some ice till the morning, the owner was sitting in the dark by himself an said we don't have ice, then I thought to myself wow they used to have a huge ice maker ,they sell soda an so on but no ice well ok then 3 strikes that place is out what I hate is a lier and better yet I will never set foot again in that place an more so anytime anybody asks about that place I will say don't go there go to rudder room or any other place , it's been rude , an dark an now a lier , they can have their place an I live 2 streets away ,I hope a new owner gets the place cuz it's no fun like it used to be nor have I seen any local people that used to be there ..good luck cuz u need it ! read more
