Incredibly accommodating. I got sick the week of our reservation, and the manager allowed me to move my reservation to the next week even though they typically don't do that. They allowed me to check in earlier than 4pm, had a pack and play set up for our baby, and even offered late check out. I'm sure this wouldn't be the case during peak season, but it was lovely for our fall trip. They even checked in numerous times via text message during our stay to see if we needed anything. The rusty nail is on site and we had great drinks by the fire at night, and a great breakfast in the morning. We will definitely be returning!

Stayed two nights at the Beach Shack and was quite impressed with the room, it was clean and updated and nicely equipped. We didn't make use of the pool but did visit the restaurant Rusty Nail and found it good although they reserve the outdoor tables for dinners and people who are drinking only are restricted to the fire pits or bar. The check in and messaging prior to arriving was excellent and really gave the the impression that they truly were interested in providing a good service. The outside of the hotel is showing its age, but overall we enjoyed our stay and had no issues.

The outdoor area is the best part of the Beach Shack. I really wanted to get a fire pit but the seating and availability was limited. The food was nothing to write home about. Anything the table asked for the waiter said they were either out of it or not serving or anyone because they are closing in a few days.

Ahhh good memories when I think about this location! Yes I was only there for two days but it was so lovely! The only issue I had was getting my key. When I first arrived the artist that I was there with had checked me in so my room could be ready for me. Well they had it under a special name and when I got there and presented that name they guy at the counter seemed a bit lost. After giving him a few seconds a light bulbs went off and I was off to my room...so not to bad. Once I made it to my room walking in was so pleasant! I love the King size bed and the decorations they had. Then to my surprise after passing the king sue bed there was the cutest bunk beds installed into the wall. Oh and that wasn't it, the bathroom was a full out party room if I must say. The whole bathroom is titled so you can shower with a few people in there if needed. They do have a mini bar inside your room as well. The bed had really nice linen, white and looked very clean. The pillows were perfect! I asked for firm pillows and they provided that perfectly as well! Oh there is also a mirror that is or a decent size next to the bed that I loved as well. They do have a pool but due to the weather while I was there I didn't visit it. I didn't have a balcony since I was on the first floor and the window to my bathroom showed the trash out back which wasn't so pretty but didn't bother me. My nights sleep was fantastic! I didn't hear people through the walls or have any other crazy things happen that would have effected it. The location of the hotel is a short walk across a street to the beach and there is also several places to eat right there as well! Look on yelp for the delicious breakfast places!! Oh and Rusty Nails has a dog menu if you decided to bring your fur babies and they are into trying something new! (*Didnt bring my dogs this go round so I am unsure the prices for pets to stay or if anything special comes along with it. *) I didn't stay long enough to see how house keeping cleans but for the two days I was there it was very pleasant! I would definitely come again!

I booked our trip 2 + months in advance and was looking forward to spending some time on the beach in the sun. Sadly the weather had other plans for me and it rained nonstop Friday Saturday and Sunday or check out was for Monday and that was the only day that it didn't rain. I understand that the hotel cannot control the weather but being that it was a long holiday weekend I would've expected that they would have come up with some sort of events to do indoor. Since we live in New York we had to head home early and we were unable to enjoy the beach. I asked the staff multiple times for activities to do or places to go since I have a toddler and it's hard to keep her inside the room all day. But each time they said to go to Congress Hall and when I asked the staff at Congress Hall they said to use the board games. I was very disappointed to the point I wanted to just go back home on Sunday and when I asked if I could get a refund for the one night they said no. I was looking forward to this trip since it was our first trip in over 2 years but sadly it was one of our worst vacation. As far as Covid regulations there are none. Nobody is wearing a mask not even the staff or housekeepers.

The beach shack is cute hotel located on Beach Avenue in Cape May. Excellent location with ample parking available. The location has you within walking distance to so many venues, Washington Mall, the beach at the cove, attended beaches across the street and all of the fun dining Cape May provides. The Rusty Nail next door is owned by the same group, excellent bar with a solid menu and outdoor setting second to none in the area. Adirondack chairs, sand, ping pong, fire pit etc. My stay at the hotel started off on the wrong foot, check in time is 3pm. We arrived at 1pm and our room wasn't ready. The weather wasn't appropriate for the pool or the beach so we elected to hit Washington Mall....while the room was not ready it was made clear to us that we were more than welcome to park and use all their facilities. When we returned At 3:15 our room was still not ready.....not happy. Approximately 20 minutes later the room was ready and the woman at the front desk gave us a $25 voucher for the Rusty Nail which was an excellent gesture......take note business owners.....it's not the situation, it's how the situation is handled. The folks who run the Beach Shack are clearly on top of their game. The room was awesome, most if not all the rooms have been recently renovated. The rooms include a microwave, refrigerator, Keurig, and ice bucket. The room was clean and has the most comfortable mattress. We were afforded a late check out which was expected given our check in experience. A few things to note: The parking lot has an attendant, he was awesome as we went out for dinner via car he was nice enough to place a cone in our parking spot....awesome. We stayed in Room 100 which was on the ground floor poolside, no issue except for the fact that we heard every toilet flush on our side of the hotel. Not a game breaker but it is worth noting. The pool was "heated" but on a 60 degree cloudy day it was cold. The pool area is large with plenty of tables, chairs, chair covers and towels. Had the weather been nicer I would have been parked in a chair poolside with a jack n coke. The hotel offers chair and umbrella service at the beach, again an excellent perk but no used because of the weather. Overall this was a great experience and I would not hesitate to stay there again. I am hoping to get back to Cape May later in the summer and The Beach Shack is on my shortlist of places to stay.

Just had a lovely lunch here, got the breakfast burrito with a side of home fries. It was filled with black beans, eggs, pepper jack cheese, pico and hot sauce. Food and service was on point. Great outside seating with a friendly and attentive staff...great summer spot

I've stayed at their Diamond Beach location, but this was my first time here. Let me mention the most enjoyable employees first. Chet was at the Front Desk when I checked out. He was by far the most friendly person I interacted with at the front desk. Some of the females were a bit...... unfriendly. If you chose to work in a customer service position it's probably best to have a sunny disposition. I think Cape May needs to address that. Tarik/Tajik? He was the young men who helped EVERYBODY get their chairs and umbrellas to the beach. He was WORKING! Yet, he always remained pleasant. And lastly, the gentleman driving the shuttle was very pleasant. He picked us up/dropped us off about 4 times. He was also servicing the Mahalo (and Icona resort) so he had his work cut out for him! We REALLY appreciated him as it was pouring one night and he came to pick us up and bring us back to the hotel. That amenity is CLUTCH! Overall, it's a nice hotel. Clean, a beautiful small bathroom, a cute little kitchen area, a small pool, and parking. Somebody mentioned the room was small, but to me it was a decent size. The balcony however, now THAT was small. Just enough room for the 2 of us to sit out there side by side and chill. I did see larger balconies out by the pool (facing the beach) so I guess you get what you pay for (larger room perhaps; suite). The AC however, is loud. It's not a window unit, but one of those wall units. I'm glad I brought my earplugs, otherwise I probably wouldn't have slept. And speaking of sleep, the bed is not what I am used to when I visit a hotel; especially a higher end boutique hotel. It was uncomfortable to me. My partner however, had no problem sleeping and did not feel it was uncomfortable. So.... roll the dice. The pool is tiny. Or shall I say, smaller than the size you will expect it to be. But it works. I chilled in the pool for 3 days. It's a good spot to people watch and break from the sand of the beach. And once we parked, we didn't have to move the car. Cape May is very pedestrian friendly. We walked and rode bikes every where we went. I love it. It was a great getaway. Check it out.

One of the first places that came to mind was Cape May - I personally had not been here in over 20 years, but I know friends and family who regularly go and thought it would be a nice place for me to rediscover as an adult. The first question I asked myself was where I should stay - Cape May has no shortage of lodgings. Even though my first thought was one of the many inns along Beach Ave, I decided to look a little deeper and check out something more Cape May specific. The Virginia Hotel fit the bill, so that's where I booked. The Virginia is a boutique hotel at its heart, housed in a restored building that sits on Jackson Street. The hotel is owned by Cape Resorts, which also operates several other hotels in the area (as well as a couple on Long Island, NY). In addition to the main hotel, there are four cottages that fall under the Virginia - note that the hotel itself is adults only, but families may stay in the cottages. Like my other hotel reviews, I'm going to separate this review into pros and cons, so here we go! In my view, there are many pros to the Virginia - the first of which being the location. The hotel sits in the middle of Jackson Ave, a half block from the beach in one direction and a half block to Washington Mall in the other. The location really can't be beat - I walked everywhere during my stay. The exterior is lovely with sea blue sidings contrasting with striking red accents and flowers. They have an outdoor porch which is used for lounging (which I did) and seating for the Ebbitt Room (the onsite restaurant). Another pro are the amenities - the hotel only has 24 rooms, so you truly get that boutique hotel experience. My room was stocked with the essentials, the bed was comfy, and they offered complimentary continental breakfast. For the breakfast, you can either have it served in your room, on the front porch, or in the Ebbitt Room. Water and cookies are also served in the main lobby mid-afternoon - nothing fancy but a nice perk. The theming is also a pro - even though this isn't a B&B, the fact that the hotel is in a historic building gives the feel of being in one - the aesthetics and finishes are all high-end with interesting pieces, pops of color, and exquisite architecture. As far as cons, there aren't many. The hotel doesn't have an elevator, so you'll need to do stairs - not a con for some but something to keep in mind. There aren't some onsite amenities that one would expect at a hotel, such as a pool and a fitness center. You do, however, have access to the pool at Congress Hall and the fitness center at The Sandpiper - two nearby hotels that are also owned by Cape Resorts. If you park your own car you'll need to do so at Congress Hall a couple of blocks away, but they offer valet service. Finally, I want to circle back and give props to the staff - everyone I interacted with was super friendly and made sure that my stay was a great one. Even before I arrived, they texted to inform me of all the logistics, and I was able to communicate with the staff via text throughout my stay. Overall, I had a great return trip to Cape May, and the Virginia Hotel was an essential part of that. I would have no qualms staying here again in the future.

Advance impression was excellent - I called several times with questions and Lena was always personable, knowledgeable and patient. The tri-fecta of customer service! Pulling up in front was happy to see pictures matched actual (as we all have sadly learned, not always the case), check-in was a breeze (again with Lena) and enjoyed a humorous back and forth with Franco. Into the room and - no major disappointments. Perhaps slightly smaller than I expected, but super clean, nicely appointed, tile bath, nicer linens that weren't threadbare and a mini-kitchen - micro, middle size refrig, and coffee pot. Just enough. In fact perfect for a 3 night stay. A nice pool (again seemed a tad small, but am seeing that's the norm here, so perhaps it's my expectations that are the wrong size!), a BBQ/picnic area out back, as well as a a laundry/ice machine room. Consistently clean and neat. Everywhere. Just exceptionally well kept up. Slightly outside of 'downtown', but still walkable.... and far less $$$ with far less hustle and bustle. IMO, a good trade off. Very pleased with this choice. We called for an extra blanket and it was delivered in under 5 minutes. Oh, a parking space, beach chairs and towels come with the room, too! Rocking chairs out front, tables and chairs out back let you enjoy some outdoor space - and the pool of course! Very nicely (and thoughtfully) laid out! Note: they have several room types. We chose #4 - king bed, family suite, no pets. But some have full kitchens, some allow pets, various bed sizes, etc. Certainly a room style for everyone. 'House Rules' are appropriate, enforced, and enhance your stay. We'll be back....
