I'm going to update my review for this location because I only gave them three stars originally 5 years ago and they deserve more than that after years of taking consistently good care of me. They have a night of the week dedicated to late appointments and are open until 8pm. Which is so awesome because I don't have to leave work early to make my exam here whenever it's time and that's so nice. I know it's hard to do that everywhere but I seriously wish most offices would do this one late night a week, or every other week, or once a month so you could schedule and not miss work during normal hours! It's such a great thing! I always schedule late - like 6:20 or 6:30 and when I show up they're winding down for the night with just a few people inside and final appointments. I've never waited longer than about 20 minutes and I spend the time on my phone, reading one of the provided magazines, or trying on glasses in their little eyeglass/sunglass shop - this week I waited just over 10 minutes and was called back. I had a routine comprehensive eye exam to check if my vision had changed in both my contacts and my eyeglasses and then I had the screening done of my eyes with the machine that does not require dilation (thank god). I then did a contact lens fitting, chatted with the friendly gals in the back for a while and saw the very kind and friendly doctor who took the time to go over my scans with me, show me the last year's compared to this one, and discuss any concerns I had. I ordered contacts which will be shipped to my house and was emailed, today, the rebate information to get $75 back! I had a great experience, everyone was friendly, and I left just under an hour after checking in after all that! Love this spot. Less than 10 minutes from my house and they always do a great job. read more

Its impossible to actually speak to a person, at your desired location. I had to get my spectacle prescription changed twice as the initial doctor was inaccurate with my need for lense power. I then had an issue with my contact lenses which had to be swapped out (at an added expense). Glasses here were priced at $601 (with optical insurance) so I took my RX elsewhere and paid $75.00 What exactly do they do there that warrants eye glasses to cost EIGHT TIMES MORE than elsewhere ? ?? also, after getting a new RX ( adjustment for my hard copy glasses prescription 3 times ) , I still cannot see with these lenses... its an awful predicament. read more

This office made my elderly mother wait over an hour in uncomfortable chairs - what is the point of bothering to make an appointment?! And then they quoted her inflated prices for new glasses (over $500 for lenses for her current frames or over $400 for lenses in their frames) - without less expensive alternatives being offered. Walked into beach eye care to see if they had a specific frame I was looking for that pearl vision didn't have. No one was at the desk and none of the workers acknowledged me, so I continued in to look for the frames. As I began looking a man came to the desk and told me I can't look at anything until they have a copy of my photo iD. I inquired as to why and they said that in the event that I steal something then they have my information. What in the world is going on????? I've never stolen anything in my entire life and I walk in to inquire about some eye glass frames and I have to give you my photo iD??? This world has gone mad. I said no thank you i will spend my hard earned $300 somewhere else. read more

I had a great experience. I was mid diagnosed with bacterial pink eye at patient first they recommended beach eye care . I called the doctor on call and he was very nice and told me to get in right away . I got an appointment the next day with dr Le at the Kempsriver location . The staff was amazing . I was diagnosed with viral pink eye . The treatment was painful but the accommodated the best they could . Follow up was great I'm healing ! Had a scare today and a doctor tele-conferenced me . Beach Eye Care- Redmill was the only place I went for eye exams and contact lenses literally for years. I went to Dr. Tang pretty much the entire time however, he wasn't available, for my last visit so, I made the mistake of seeing Emily Scannell. Let me tell you, she's a corrupt little thing. I've ben a Type 1 diabetic for 36 years and exclusively see Dr. Alan Wagner once a year to make sure my eyes are OK. He's the only Ophthalmologist I see for my eyes relating to my diabetes. I told Scannell I see Dr. Wagner once a year and my eyes are doing fine in that regard. They billed BCBS $160.00 and said it was considered a medical visit because of my diabetes. Needless to say, they charged ME $160.00 for the same visit. Scannell is delusional if she thinks she conducted an ophthalmology exam during my visit as she did NOTHING relating to my diabetes. I had a balance for my visit and had to wait a few months before they responded. They finally reimbursed my $160.00 payment. Then, I received another statement months later and went back and reviewed the claims under the coverages I have for Vision Care. Beach Eye Care, increased the amount they charged that was submitted to BCBS ($259.00) which included an "ophthalmology" exam, then submitted a claim through my vision plan for $241.00. The alleged ophthalmology exam never occurred. Again, I've been a Type 1 diabetic for 36 years and I KNOW what an Ophthalmology exam entails. The only service performed was her looking at the contacts once they were in my eyes to check the fit. Scannell has absolutely NO involvement regarding my diabetes. They wrote up my exam narratives as me having Type 2 diabetes when I have Type 1. If you're going to lie, at least have some accuracy in what you say. I'm going to follow with BCBS and further discuss this regarding Beach Eye Care submitting false claims to my insurance carrier and double billing for services not rendered. Then they expect me to pay an additional co-pay. Others have mentioned, the clear inappropriate charges/billing by these people. Given the fact, I'm an Insurance Fraud Investigator, I'm quite confident I'm well versed in this subject. If you treat with this dump, be sure to watch them like a hawk with your charges/billing and triple check you claims through your healthcare/vision plans and advise them of what's occurring and if/when they double charge for services or charge for services not rendered, follow with the appropriate agencies in the Commonwealth and report them. read more

Not a huge fan. Decided to try the one at Red Mill because it was near my home and convenient. Scheduling was easy and the lady who scheduled me over the phone was super friendly. Had a 9:40am appointment and was not seen until 10:40am. The woman who initially did my eye exam was...dry and cold. I'm a friendly person so I enjoy brief conversation to make me feel welcome and make time pass faster.....it was non existent. You could tell she was there to do a job and go home. Dr. Risenhour (I have completely misspelled her name I'm sure) was super nice her exam was quick...after waiting for 15 minutes for her. I was then sent back to the front to pick out frames...with my eyes dilated so I could forget telling the difference between some colors....couldn't see the prices lol. The guy who helped me said he was the director and did not usually work at that store. He was friendly..gave me a price quote like I had asked. I didn't feel there was a huge selection of glasses, which might be better for some people, but the selection they had allowed me one pair of glasses that looked decent on my small framed face. After finding out the price I decided not to settle there. When checking out I asked for my prescription...the lady was nice but I felt like it was an issue to print it out. My check out time was around 12:15pm....I did take my script elsewhere that had a better selection of glasses as well as better customer service....and a better variation of prices for the different styles. I ended up getting a pair of frames (similar to the ones i picked out at Beach Eye) and lenses for close to $100 cheaper than I would of spent at Beach eye care. Overall, the place was average. There was nothing that said, "Come again...we are a step above the others", because of this I'm not sure I'll be back as well as the length of time it took and the coldness expressed by a few of the staff members. I try to give places the benefit of the doubt and give them another chance...we shall see. read more

I'm absolutely 100% impressed with Beach Eye Care! I've been seeing Dr. Tang and his tech assistant and I have been receiving top notch quality service and attention to detail. I'm getting multi-focal lenses at a high power which takes a ton of tweaking. Dr. Tang and his tech have been working together seamlessly to tweak my prescription to perfection. I've never had eye care providers take so much time and work so hard to make sure I walk out the door seeing my best. I promise I'm receiving no incentives to make this post other than to make sure Beach Eye Care on Upton and Dr. Tang get the review they deserve! A++ read more
