    Lowe's Home Improvement

    Lowe's Home Improvement

    (5 reviews)

I ordered an item on-line and went to Lowe's Ogdensburg (2001 Ford Street Extension, Ogdensburg,…read moreNY) after receiving a notice that the item was ready for pick-up. My wife and I did some in-store shopping after getting our pre-ordered items from Lowe's self pick-up area. Staff in the store constantly watched me and my wife and aggressively made their presence known to us. (How often are you in large stores when you can't easily find an employee to help you?) Staff at Lowe's Ogdensburg were hovering around us during the entire time we were in this store. From a distance, one employee would yell, "Can I help you?" A few minutes later this annoying behaviour was repeated by another employee, one after the other, with about a total of five staff members watching us and behaving inappropriately. Soon it was obvious store staff weren't interested in helping us, but rather were watching our every move as we looked at different products in their store. It was more than just annoying; staff was being disruptive to our browsing and making it obvious that they were watching us. A male employee came over to us with a fake smile on his face. Soon as this employee got my attention he aggressively demanded to know where I had parked my car. This male employee asked me the make and colour of my vehicle and where we lived. Next, he demanded to know where I had parked my vehicle while stating, "I want to make sure that it's not parked somewhere it shouldn't be." This employee wouldn't leave until I told him and then he immediately departed the store looking for my car in the parking lot. Lowe's was almost devoid of customers, so I'm sure that finding my vehicle in the parking lot wasn't difficult. A short while later this same male employee comes back and states to me, "It's not your vehicle. I found the car and it doesn't belong to you". When I simply shook my head in disgust he added, "Where it's parked is okay!" He didn't want to believe that this expensive late-modeled car belonged to me. I had chosen about $100.00 worth of products to buy and placed everything on the counter. At the cash register a female employee loudly demanded, "You have to pay for everything." Next this rude female employee demanded I show her my driver's license before she would scan the products I was buying. The cashier defiantly said, "I want to know who you are." This cashier again very loudly stated, "You have to pay for everything." I was wearing shorts with empty pockets and a t-shirt. Also, I wasn't carrying any bags. Just what did she think I was trying to swipe, a wooden toothpick? While I realize theft is a problem in many stores, I don't steal. Why I was targeted for this type of abuse from staff at Lowe's is beyond me. I'm honest and only wanted to buy a few needed items, not sold at their stores in Canada. Given what occurred I won't be ever going back to Lowe's in Ogdensburg or anywhere else in the USA. Lowe's you have now lost a Canadian customer forever.

In the past 8 months, I've made 50 phone calls to Lowe's, but the windows have not been done. They are intentionally dragging their feet, hoping I will give up.

It was fun.. clean.. smallish. Lots of things but easy to look around…read more Old Consumer's counter? My friend brought me in here.... Had no idea about it. Lots of parking.. right off the Queensway. Camping. Kitchen. Gadgets. Planter's dream. I guess if you need service, you presss a button and get a number! Like the old days! We spent a long time looking. Didn't buy anything but I have a feeling I'll be back. It was fun. Dog friendly too.

I can't believe I've never reviewed Lee Valley Tools! This store is one of my husband's favourite…read morestores. It sells tools, gardening supplies, and gadgets for the house. They have a limited amount of inventory that they display in the store. The rest of their items are in their warehouse. You look through their catalog using their on-site computers and it will tell you if the item you want is on display (if that's the case, you just find it and get it and check out) or in their warehouse. If it's in their warehouse, you jot down the item number and bring it to the staff and they will get it for you from the warehouse. I am totally going to date myself by saying this, but the set up is a little bit like the now defunct Consumers Distributing. Does anyone remember that store? Lol. They were much more low tech back then of course, you'd have to look through an actual paper catalog to find the item number, lol. Staff here are always very pleasant. They genuinely seem like they enjoy being there. They are easy-going and have a calm demeanor. The vast majority of them are in their golden years and it appears to me like it's their post-retirement gig to get out of the house and make some extra money, lol. I could be wrong, but this is my perception. The prices are on the higher end, but I find the quality of their products are also high and they have unique items that are hard to find elsewhere. They have lots of free parking on-site in their private parking lot. If you love innovative gadgets or tools that are a bit nicer than the ones you'd find at your average hardware store, give Lee Valley a look-see.
