Booze is normal price at $6 for mixed drinks. Everyone is easy going and the music is pretty good and loud (rock, punk, psychobilly,etc). The selection depends on whose the bartender that night since there is no juke box. The only thing significant I noticed is it doesnt pickup till about 10PM till 1030 PM. If you show up before that dont be surprise if it seems dead. But come the "magic" hour the place will fill up in like 10-15 minutes. Pretty impressive. Its off the Mont Royal Metro stop if your riding the subway.

I can't speak to La Tulipe as a club since I've only been here for shows, I've seen Bluelight Burlesque productions here and recently came to see Daniel Ash and Kevin Haskins of Bauhaus/Tones on Tail/Love & Rockets fame and it was just the perfect place to see them for what turned out to be an amazing show full of nostalgia and tunes I thought I would never hear live again. There's an area near the stage where those who want to take in the show in general admission form can go and stand (be careful because slam-dancing always inevitably breaks out) and tables further back where you can sit, sip your drinks and take in the show leisurely. Drinks are reasonably priced and the crowd is pretty chill. I'll have to come here some Saturday night so I can check out 80s night.

I wasn't disappointed with La Tulipe (if you don't count the remixed version of Miami Sound Machine's Conga). The music was eclectic, from U2 and New Order to B52s, Human League, The Cure, OMD, Joan Jett, and aforementioned MSM, plus a few cusp acts like Boney M, Michael Jackson (when he was still black), Deee Lite. It was like going back to my students days :). As I also spent a year in France at the time, I enjoyed hearing a smattering of hits by Les Rita Mitsouko, Niagara and Indochine. The crowd was also eclectic: with people who were there in the 80s, their kids, and those in between, as many English speakers as French speakers, I'd say. There was a pick-up vibe I have rarely seen in Montreal, but nothing overly intrusive. Still, if you are looking to hook up with someone, the chances are you could... Entrance fee is now $8, and drinks were regular bar prices. Service was quick and friendly. I'm definitely going back!

I've never gotten food but I think they do have some. I think the side tables and high chairs aren't too comfortable but unless you show up early, you won't get the prime tables in front of the stage. It does get a bit hot inside and sometimes there is a cover charge so keep that in mind. I think the location is great for live music, the sound is clear and you see clearly.

The attention to detail is truly cristalizing. We couldnt help but stare and evrything for the first 15 minutes upon entering. Pointing and every pop culture reference we recognized (especially the Simpsons stuff). This is the type of place to return to over and over. I'm stubborn and continue to order Bloody Caesars although they recently have brought a major disappointment. The cocktail is consistent, but when I had it for the first time last year there was a beef jerky in it. This summer for whatever reason the jerky is gone from the cocktail, it is still supposed to be there according to the menu, but nowhere to be found in my drink. This is why a star is removed, sorry, I'm picky about the Caesars. Cobra is definitely kind of hip place to be looking at the crowd gathering there on Friday night. I really enjoy the 80s memorabilia, the movies shown on an old TV using VHS system, the list of drinks has been now transferred into a VHS boxes, funny, but difficult to read. The music choices have been always awesome. The service may be spotty. Even on an evening when sitting on the little patio and there were only few customers we had to wave persistently to get another drink or just the check. Drink wise Cobra delivers, they will surprise you with local beers that you would need to search hard for in Montreal as the the amazing Milkshake IPA of Jukebox or the old fashioned Laurentide of Molsson. Conclusion I would continue coming here, but please bring the jerky back in my Bloody Cobra if you want another star.
