Let's just say that ever since corporate took over this store it has been a complete disaster. Where do I start; First they took away a few beds that worked well for me and many others I'm sure, ok no biggie I'll just find a new bed I like. So after trying out multiple other beds and wasting money to do so I found a bed. So far no harm done. Then I go back a month later and find the place looking dirty, it was obvious nobody had vacuumed the floors, (keep in mind we all walk barefoot on these floors before getting in the bed) and the bathroom was filthy with paper everywhere and mirrors all stained up looking like someone spit all over them (lazy staff and bad management). I got a bit upset and stayed away for a while. Fast forward to two days ago; I walk in and buy a lotion and then proceed to go to the bed. As I'm undressing I realize there are no hooks for my clothes. So they took away the hooks and the little corner benches and put in a cheap metal stool, needless to say I had to put my clothes on the dirty floor. I then get in the bed and to my surprise the control screen on the tanning bed is broken so I had to tan with barely any fan and the face bulbs at maximum strength ( my face was burning so bad I had to keep covering it half the time I was in there) As if that's not enough, I go to the bathroom to wash my hands and look in the mirror to see the results being that it's the only place with normal lighting (the rooms are too dark to see your actual complexion) and to my surprise they took away the mirror. Who is running this place????? Omg even a child would know better than to take away the mirror in the bathroom. But don't worry everyone, they put in a new soap dispenser so that should make everything ok. SMH absolute fail read more

I normally have a great experience here. Yes they're a bit pricey but you get what you pay for. The beds are top quality and they are always on top of changing the bulbs. I've never experienced their airbrush services but anyone I've spoken to says good things about it. In addition I want to point out that Nicole is without question the best employee they've ever had. She travels to different locations but when we get to see her it's the best. She's incredibly friendly, professional, and honest. My husband and I always enjoy seeing her as she knows us by name, helps me pick the best lotions, and is a pleasure to chat with. They seriously should give her an award for exceptional customer service. I can't always say that for everyone I've come into contact with at either Patchogue or Stonybrook. Ive definitely had some not so great experiences with a few but nonetheless we still like it here and will continue to patronize. read more

This salon is pretty large. They just moved to an even bigger location not more than 200ft away. Some of the employees that have been there for a decent amount of time are really awesome and helpful. The guy than runs the place will remember a face if you've been going there for a while. The prices are decent for Long Island compared to their uber-expensive Manhattan counterpart. They will try and upsell you but usually don't feel too much pressure from them if your strong-willed :) haha I like this place because I'm used to the environment and I know what I'm going to get from the people and the equipment. **Tanning in beds or booths can cause skin melanoma/skin cancer, so be careful. I've never gone for a spray tan. but I should start. read more

PROS: I really like this place, it's clean and convenient. The staff are friendly. They have packages and coupons all the time. CONS: Went there recently to get a spray tan, my arms and upper body did not get as dark as my legs, I will mention that to them next time. And I was asked about tipping at the front desk, then in the booth there is a sign that says the attendants work on tips. I just paid $40 for a tan, and there is an upcharge for everything. Coming from Manhattan- I like this place. The prices are decent. HOWEVER- the levels are kinda pointless. I can't seem to tan at all unless I'm paying for the 2nd to highest level. Where I use to go, you paid the price but I liked that there was one level and a tan garaunteed. I also have to pay $5 up charge anytime I try to use my package in Manhattan... which drives me nuts. I don't understand ther service complaints. They're okay. I mean they're not super friendly but they're not rude or miserable either. They're exactly what I'd expect at a tanning salon. Sundays are a HUGE plus. read more

Absolute rip off. Their tanning consultants are far from experts and just want your money. I went in so I could pre-tan for a vacation. The tanning consultant convinced me to purchase the titanium level for a week pass and some over priced lotion ($158 total). That's just a week pass, not 7 sessions. It expires in a week. She told me I could come back every day, even the morning before we fly out. That's how good the S-bed in the titanium level is, you won't burn or peel...she says. So I go in the s-bed for 9 minutes and the next day I am burnt as a crisp (I'm Italian, it's not like I have fair skin). I had to take the next day off from tanning. So then I go back two days in a row and now I am already peeling. Not even sure I will be able to go back again before the trip. So I basically got 3 sessions and tanning lotion for $158. No wonder they have no refunds!!!!!! read more

Great location and service. Staff is always friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. Pricing/packages are great, the Mystic comes out even and natural looking and the beds are nice and always have new bulbs giving you that great color. I also get the Airbrush from time to time and couldn't be more happy with the results. Tanning equipment and spray tanning is great but I cannot say the same for their service. I was standing on line for 10 minutes with only about 3 people in front of me because the girls were joking around with their friends and doing whatever they pleased while customers were patiently waiting. I've been a beachbum customer for a while now and i still get excited everytime i go to the salon. They always have new products and special offers, and the salon is also very clean and well kept, i like the atmosphere and even though the salon changed locations everything i loved about it stayed the same. The staff has always been so helpful and friendly, and when i was curious about the airbrush tanning they were very accomadating and new how to answer all my questions and concerns. After my first time being airbrushed i would recommend it to anyone, i was so happy with the end result, it just came out so great and i loved how quick it was. I would recommend beachbum to anyone and would be suprised if they didnt end up loving it as much as i have. read more

I have been coming to beach bum for about 6 years now and I always do their custom airbrushes( they're awesome) I usually am by the Deer Park/Huntington area, but I am now going to make the extra 15 minute drive to Stony Brook. i'm from centereach and i had typically bounced around between a variety of salons in the past but i've recently made a commitment to coming to beachbum after just my first experiance last month. i was unsure if i'd return so i was only going to buy one but the girl actually gave me a free one with the one i bought because i was new, they had so many different beds i was actully excited to come back and i was so happy with my results! both times the staff was extremely accomadating and friendly and what i found most impressive was how knowledgeable on tanning they were overall, and the assortment of tanning products the salon had like tatto sticks and moisturizers makeup remover, everything you could ever possibly need to tan was all in one place! it was very pleasant to come into as well very clean and nice, much better than you typical tanning salon! read more
