This is such a quaint and beautiful spot to do Yoga! It definitely WOW'd me. The setup and layout is so cute and cozy! It almost feels like an Airbnb in Joshua Tree. They have great amenities like teas and water. Such great selection of teas from green, black, and flavored as well. The lady in the front desk was so kind and helpful as well. It was my first time coming here with my sister and as a first timer, I definitely had a great experience. The place itself feels very cozy and welcoming (great vibes) . The yoga class was great too! Today was my first class at be the change yoga and it was a wonderful experience. I did the therapeutic yoga class with Amy for my first time and it was definitely therapeutic! Amy came around when I walked in and asked what brought me in to yoga today/ if I had any injuries and she was very welcoming. It was very easy to follow her directions when the class started. They provided all the yoga mats, straps and blocks which I thought was awesome. I also loved the fact that you can grab a cup of tea after your yoga class because they have a cute little kitchen area in the back! In fact, numerous instructors ask at the beginning of class if there are postures or areas of the body you wish to work on and then proceed to tailor the class based on student responses. There is a variety of class offerings, from a more physical vinyasa class to a more restorative sound healing class. Unlike gyms and conventional studios, the rooms have no mirrors. At this studio, the emphasis is placed on looking inward, feeling the posture, rather then external appearances and comparisons to those around you. I started yoga in this place on September and have been there almost every day and I like it so much that I thought I'll write a review. The place has an authentic look and feel. The front desk staff are very warm and welcoming and the instructors are experienced, knowledgable, and caring. Many different types of yoga, like reiki, kundalini, flow yoga, and aromatherapy are offered by different instructors and in different levels. Also, different variations of each pose are presented in each class, so everyone can pick the one that suits their needs. Each instructor brings her/his style and character to the class which makes it possible for practitioners to pick their match. The facility is beautiful, inviting, and always very clean. There are two group classrooms, a cozy room with bed for one on one therapy, acupunture and such, two very clean bathrooms, and a tea room which is a lovely bonus. Also, plenty of yoga maths and accessories are provided in each room. There are several morning and afternoon classes every day, including weekends, which makes it easy to work with your schedule. I love everything about Be the Change Yoga, especially the vibe and the sense of community. Also, I love that this business is women owned, and I love the beatiful job they have done creating this amazing place. My review is going towards the lady who works at the front. Earlier this week, I arrived to a class 1 minute after it had started and she would not let me into the class. Yoga is a place to go and destress, instead she argued with me about how I should have called to say I was going to be late and that she could not let me in... I explained to her that I was a teacher that drove in 25 minutes of traffic to be there. I had just got out of parent conferences and really needed that yoga class that day but she refused. I do not get many off days after school so I lost my chance at yoga that day. I have been going here on and off and have never had this issue. I love the classes and instructors but this was a very negative experience to walk away from a yoga studio, for one single minute. read more

If you've been doing yoga, but have not started doing myofascial release then you are missing out. Amanda's Saturday class (Roll and restore) is amazing. You'll hear lots of groaning during class because you are basically giving yourself a deep tissue massage, but you will love how your body feels afterwards. This class helped resolve my plantar fasciitis a few years ago. I frequently attend whenever I have a small discomfort like muscle soreness so as to avoid any future injury. I have learned so much from Amanda that I often use the techniques at home after a yoga practice. Hope you can join and discover the next level of release beyond stretching your muscles. read more

I got displaced since my previous home studio closed. Be the Change has become my home now . Katie and Allison are awesome teachers. And I love that they give you so many options, and are always reminding you to listen to what your body wants (For sure they are trauma informed). This is place is a real-life yoga oasis! I drive 30 minutes one-way to attend classes here twice a week. Why? Because it's the best yoga studio in Orange County. As yogi with over 20 years of practice, I know what does and does not work for me. The compassion, thoughtfulness and heart-centered focus of Be The Change is exactly what's needed in this world. Every teacher is excellent, but there are a few champions of yoga I'd like to mention. Amy Harper - I've been following her from studio to studio. She's been my teacher for over a decade because she's exceptional as a yoga therapist and meditation guide. She exudes tranquility and strength in her classes. Katie - One of the owners of the studio. Someone described her as having hummingbird energy. Spot on! She's a tiny little powerhouse that teaches you how to grow in your practice. Bonus - Her parents join her classes regularly. There is nothing more heartwarming than hearing your yoga teacher say something like, "Dad, we're going do your favorite pose in a minute." Allison - How this wonder woman runs a business, attends grad school and teaches yoga, I'll never know. Her reiki/yoga classes are quite restorative. I love this studio! I decided to check out Be The Change via ClassPass and really enjoyed this yoga studio! It is so hard to find non-heated yoga studios nowadays and I am so glad this one is relatively close to my home. Jonah's beginner's class was perfect and I felt it was the perfect pace. I wandered into Be The Change Yoga after my Cardio Barre session in the same plaza. Cardio Barre definitely takes care of my physical health, but I was looking for something to strengthen my mind. I see yoga as a spiritual practice and I did not want to practice it for exercising purposes. As soon as I spoke with one of the owners, I knew instantly that Be the Change Yoga was perfect for what I was looking for. Be the Change Yoga is a donation based yoga studio because they care more about spreading yoga practices more than money. The suggested donation price is about $10-$20 per class, donating less per session if you are going more often. They are nice enough to list that the suggested donations are $5-$10 for those who are students or financially struggling. They have a locked donation box at the exit for the classrooms so the donation is completely anonymous. But don't worry if you don't have cash, you can make a credit card donation as well. They have many different classes available. The class schedule is available on their website. You can find the classes you are interested in and look for the classes with you level. It is marked as (T) for Therapeutic, (A) for all-levels, (B) for beginners, (B/1) for beginners/level 1, (1) for level 1, (1/2) for level 1 and 2 or (2) for level 2. If it's your first time or if you have any injuries, I recommend introducing yourself to your yoga instructor at the beginning of class and they will be able to give you adjustments to the exercises if needed. Come about 5 minutes early to class, enter quietly and set up your yoga mats... Yoga mats, blocks and blankets are available if you don't have your own. Funny story cause for my first ever Yoga class I accidentally went into a be Awakened (1) class. Luckily for me Carla was an amazinnggggg instructor. I really like the positive vibes she emits and it definitely helped that she was mirroring what we needed to do so it was easier to copy the poses. The 75 minute session was time well spent. I left feeling both physically and mentally stronger than I was before class. With Cardio Barre and Be the Change Yoga in the same plaza I feel so blessed. After work I can hit my 4:30-5:30pm session at Cardio Barre and then take my time coming over to Be the Change Yoga for the 6:00-7:15pm session for a complete mind and body work out. I've been coming here for the past 3 weeks to attend the prenatal yoga class. I like that the classes are donation based and they don't bind you to a membership. I typically donate about $20 per class. The studio is clean, the bathrooms are clean. I'm glad that it is not a unisex bathroom and there are separate bathrooms for men and women. I like that this is a smaller studio and doesn't feel gym-like like Core Power. The prenatal class is okay, there are usually about 12 women in attendance. I'm used to fast paced yoga classes at Core Power, Radiant Hot, and Bikram, so this is definitely a much slower paced class. I think this class is designed more for the beginners, which is fine too. Since I'm pregnant, I definitely do not want to over exert myself. It's also really convenient that the there's a Nekter in the plaza so I can get some juice after yoga. read more

I've been going to this studio since December and I am so glad I finally took the plunge and visited! Everyone was so welcoming from the front desk to each and every instructor that I've met. I truly appreciate that each class they acknowledge newcomers, ask if people would like to focus on certain areas/needs, and the intentions set to personalize your practice. I really enjoy the varied styles and levels of classes they offer so I can choose if I am looking for vinyasa flow, yin yoga, restorative, etc. I appreciate being able to attend my favorite classes the same time each week, but I do wish there were more varied eveing classes. There are some class types only offered midday on weekdays, so I'll never get to go to them since I work M-F, so that would be my only feedback. They have blocks, straps, blankets, etc available in the studio which is great, cubbies to stash your belongings during class, and some great items for purchase out front (clothing, props, essential oils, gifts etc). In the middle of such a chaotic time, this studio has brought me calm and peace. I drive in from Long Beach because this was the only studio I could find that taught restorative yoga. The restorative yoga heals my body, while the sound bath, at the end of the session, heals my spirit. Since this experience, I've signed up for the new client membership, which gives me unlimited yoga for $99.00 for two months. I've taken the reiki yoga, therapeutic, gentle and aromatherapy. I've taken a yoga class a day for a week and a half and my anxiety and depression have been reduced tremendously. I actually had a out of body experience and experienced such peace it has lasted me almost the entire day. No matter if you live in LA COUNTY or the OC, this studio is worth checking out. read more

I love this yoga studio! It's a small, cozy studio with amazing instructors and classes! I frequent the "be healthy" and "be peaceful" classes. These classes are more slower paced, focused on breathing, chanting, and stretching. The "aromatherapy + yoga class" is also a good beginners class and I love the use of essential oils to enhance your wellness. I love incorporating yoga classes into my weekly regime since they are great to take on rest days from the gym and also forces your body to stretch and relax. The breathing exercises have really helped me to de-stress whenever I am. These classes get packed on the weekends so I highly recommend arriving early to set up for the class. This yoga studio has really competitive pricing and a sliding scale range to allow for everyone to afford their classes. I have ClassPass, which is another option you can have in order to add a variety of classes/exercises to your workout. This yoga studio provides blankets, blocks, belts, and loaner mats free of charge to anyone to needs it. I was really enjoying my yoga practice even signed up for a extra work- shop and got some girlfriends to join . However I became very disappointed after injuring my back in the "Yoga for Bone Strength" class on (10/23/18 Tuesday) I thought my back would be better by Saturday the day of the workshop but it was not. I called the Studio in the morning to see if they would credit me for the workshop and was told someone would get back to me. I still have not received a call back after 2 additional calls to the Studio. They did not even call to see how I was doing, real compassionate! I was looking for yoga classes that were not heated, and I found Be The Change. Unfortunately, the experience was a disappointment right from the very start. When I arrived, I told the person at the front desk that I wanted to sign up for the unlimited month for $49. She only spoke to me to ask me to fill out my information and for my payment. There was no intro, no welcome, no tour of the studio, no information. Nothing. Ok... I walked into my first class, and the teacher commented that my mat was "so fancy!" That comment definitely had a negative undertone, which was very off-putting. The class itself was intermediate/advanced, but I still found it to be quite slow and wouldn't have considered it intermediate/advanced. There were individual poses that were more advanced, but the class as a whole did not feel so. At the beginning of the class, the teacher asked for a show of hands if it was your first time, and I raised my hand. At the end of the class, the teacher walked up to another class participant and said "I've never seen you before! What's your name?," engaging in friendly conversation. As I was leaving, I spoke to her to thank her for the class, and I was completely IGNORED! She never asked for my name although she knew I was new to the class. What is wrong with this woman? What did I ever do to her? Some yogi... I still came back to try another class. I had an unlimited month, and I only made it to 3 classes total because I was so sorely disappointed each time. I tried different class varieties, but they were all very slow. Some were focused on breathing, etc. But I fell asleep in each of the last two classes. I really tried to give it a chance, even after that negative first class. I even went on yelp and read every single review posted. Like what am I missing that others seem to get? They made me feel comfortable immediately. If you're a typical person who just wants to do a little yoga without the "competitive" vibe this place is perfect. If you're a hard core ashtangi or are just practicing at a very high level, it might not be your thing. But I enjoy the low pressure attitude, and the friendliness of the place. I am so glad to have found this place as it is super close by for me. I am a beginner and have taken 3 classes, 2 from one instructor and 1 from another. As a beginner I felt very relaxed and at ease. The instructors and the students are low key and casual, not intimidating at all. I like the fact the I can just pay as I go, as sometimes my busy schedule makes me miss a class. It seems that they have a good variety of classes and schedules so I am quickly becoming a regular. They have props like blocks and straps to help with exercises and the studio is kept very clean. Class sizes were perfect too, not crowded. read more

First, I feel like a total butt-head for giving this rating... but I just wasn't sold on this place. I get that it's donation based, which is awesome. And I'm not comparing this to CPY or any other "trendy" studio, but I still expected a little more. When I walked in 20 minutes before the class started, I expressed that I had never been to the studio before. The boy behind the desk said "OK." When you say that at any other studio, they usually show you around i.e. "here's our bathroom", "here is where you get water", etc... This guy, said nothing. I had to ask him where the restroom was so I could change (I came from work so he could tell I was not in Yoga gear yet), and then if I could buy a water bottle. He told me they don't sell water but there was a Brita filtered jug on the side of the hallway I could fill up a cup with. I thought that was weird. There is only 1 restroom for the women and 1 for the men. This creates an issue when there are multiple people in your studio. The only lockers this studio has is inside the room. P.S. the only reason I know this place was donation-based, is because I read it on Yelp! Grrr... The teacher was nice, but she didn't adjust any of us, and there were only 4 of us in the room. I like when the teacher helps us with certain poses. The class was fine, I was happy I was moving my body. Overall, I would use this class more for a cool down rather than a work out. read more

Allison and Katie have created the first donation-based yoga studio in OC. Their mission is to offer yoga to anyone who wants/need it. Everyone there is wonderful.
